Magic: The Gathering has just put out a new set entitled Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. It is a return to a classic Magic plane that sees a realm based on feudal Japan evolve into a cyberpunk city where magic and technology coexist, albeit not peacefully.

10 Behold The Unspeakable Becomes A Creature Powered By Hand Size

Behold the Unspeakable is a particularly strong uncommon saga. At the start, it hinders the power of opponents’ creatures. Once it gets a second lore counter, it can draw a player up to four cards. With the third lore counter, it transforms into Visions of the Unspeakable. Its power and toughness are equal to the number of cards in its controller’s hand.

Blue mages love having a big hand, so they can easily take advantage of a creature like Visions of the Unspeakable. Especially in a deck like Nekusar, The Mindrazer which causes all players to draw a lot of cards to win.

9 Mindlink Mech Can Become A Copy Of Another Creature

Mindlink Mech is a flying 4/3 vehicle that crews for one and becomes a copy of whatever is crewing it except with a power of 4/3 and flying. This is a good way to get a second copy of a creature the player already has in play. It’s especially useful for creatures that want to hit the opponent in order to trigger an effect.

The fact that Mindlink Mech can become different creatures from turn to turn is another advantage to this particular copying creature. There are still a lot of limitations to this card, but it’s far from a useless addition to the blue spell library.

8 Thousand-Faced Shadow Can Duplicate Another Attacking Creature

Thousand-Faced Shadow is another card that can copy creatures, and it’s a good bit better than Mindlink Mech in most regards. Upon entering the battlefield through its ninjutsu effect, Thousand-Faced Shadow creates a tapped and attacking copy of another attacking creature.

Thousand-Faced Shadow also has evasion through flying. As such, it’s easy to find a way to return Thousand-Faced Shadow to hand so that it can copy another attacking creature later on.

7 The Reality Chip Gives A Player Access To The Top Card Of Their Library

On its own, the Reality Chip is a 0/4 wall. However, when it is attached to a creature, it becomes a Future Sight-type card. It allows the controller to look at and cast the spells from the top of their library. Unlike many of the other reconfiguring creatures, it doesn’t provide any other benefit or stat boost to the creature.

That said, always having access to the top card of the library is very useful, and there aren’t a lot of cards that allow players to cast any card from the top. Future Sight, Magus of the Future, and Bolas’ Citadel are among the only cards that grant this ability.

6 March Of Swirling Mist Can Give A Beleaguered Blue Mage Relief For A Turn

March of Swirling Mist is a powerful card to play when a player is being swarmed with creatures. It’s an instant that costs one mana and X, and it’s able to phase out X target creatures. The caster can also exile blue cards to make the card cost two fewer mana.

Of the “March” cycle of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, March of Swirling Mist is easily one of the best. Being able to remove any amount of opponent creatures from the game for a turn is a very useful option.

5 Kairi, The Swirling Sky Is Tough To Kill And Provides Support Upon Death

Kairi, The Swirling Sky is the blue part of the cycle of legendary enchantment dragons that are in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. Each one has flying plus an additional keyword as well as a triggered ability that activates upon death. Kairi has Ward 3 and can either bounce non-land permanents or put two instants and/or sorceries back into hand.

Either of those options can be very effective. Punishing an opponent for killing a creature feels very good, and Kairi, The Swirling Sky is powerful enough that opponents will have to deal with it at some point.

4 Inventive Iteration Can Trip Up Opponents

Inventive Iteration is another interesting saga to come out of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. It bounces a creature or planeswalker upon entering the battlefield. With the second lore counter, it either returns an artifact from the graveyard to hand or draws a card.

However, the true power of Inventive Iteration comes from the creature on the back: Living Breakthrough. This creature makes it so that, whenever its controller casts a spell, their opponents can’t cast spells of the same mana value until the next turn. With enough spells, this can be downright devastating for opponents.

3 Tameshi, Reality Architect Can Recur Both Artifacts And Enchantments

Tameshi, Reality Architect is a creature that can return artifacts or enchantments from the graveyard to the battlefield at the cost of one land, one white mana, and X colorless. This is a lot to pay, but this ability can be activated as many times as its controller wants, though it has to be at sorcery speed.

The other caveat to Tameshi is that it cannot be in a mono-blue deck. Since it has a white mana symbol on the card, it has to be in a deck that has both white and blue in its color identity.

2 Tezzeret, Betrayer Of Flesh Is A Major Power-Up For Artifact Decks

A new version of an old character, Tezzeret, Betrayer of Flesh is one of the three planeswalkers in this set. Tezzeret is arguably the most powerful for how much it gives to an artifact-focused blue deck. It allows the player to draw two cards at the cost of discarding either an artifact or two cards. It can animate an artifact at 4/4 (unless it’s a vehicle, which will maintain its printed power and toughness).

Tezzeret’s ultimate ability allows its controller to draw a card every time they tap an artifact. None of these instantly wins the game, but all of them are a great boon to an artifact deck and can keep it running smoothly.

1 Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant Can Duplicate And Counter Spells

Jin Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant marks another recent Phyrexian sighting, with the last one being Vorinclex in Kaldheim. Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant is just as powerful, if not more, than that Vorinclex.

The new Jin-Gitaxias copies the first sorcery, instant, or artifact its controller casts each turn and counters the first sorcery, instant, or artifact that their opponents cast each turn. While it doesn’t have flash like the first Jin-Gitaxias, this Jin-Gitaxias at least costs three fewer mana.
