The series ran between 2009 and 2012 and follows the efforts of the superhero group The Paradigm, another obvious comic book homage to the Justice League of America, as they try and stop The Plutonian before he destroys the world.

Astro City began in the early ’90s as a loving tribute to the history of comic books, taking inspiration from a number of sources, including the storied history of both Marvel and DC Comics.

4 The Umbrella Academy
The Umbrella Academy throws a lot of superhero tropes out the window. The comic book series begins with a group of superpowered children being adopted by Dr. Reginald Hargreeves and eventually becoming a superhero team. But the tropes break down there.
The Hargreeves siblings lead a tragic life, with their powers and circumstances often leading to negative consequences for them and even the world. Fans of Invincible will likely find a lot to like here as well.
3 The Squadron Supreme
The Squadron Supreme, the subject of the current Heroes Reborn Marvel Comics event, is in many ways the prototypical version of the Guardians of the Globe or The Authority. This team of superheroes tried to create a utopia on their version of Earth by taking over the United States government.
That eventually failed, and the team fled into the main Marvel continuity not long after, but it’s easy to see the seeds of later stories in comics like Invincible in the storylines of the Squadron Supreme from the ’80s and ’90s.
