With the increasing popularity of the Cooking Channel and the Food Network, TV shows about every cuisine in the world continue to be produced. In the past five years or so, Netflix has recognized this trend and begun to invest in their own original culinary programming. Whether it be home-cooking shows, cooking competitions, or professional chefs convening to discuss the craft, there is a wide array of options for foodies and aspiring chefs alike.

10 Nailed It! (2018)

One of the more entertaining food shows on Netflix the past three years belongs to Nailed It!, a silly half-hour baking competition show hosted by actress Nicole Byer.

Much like the show Chopped!, the show consists of three contestants competing for a grand prize of $10,000. The competition features three neophyte chefs who must recreate a professionally baked good with the utmost accuracy. Legendary French pastry chef Jaques Torres serves as co-host and one of the judges, as he also does on the spinoff show Nailed It! Holiday!

9 Taco Chronicles (2019)

Those with a penchant for Latin food will surely find value in the first two seasons of Taco Chronicles, a mouth-wateringly detailed breakdown of Mexico’s culinary staple.

With 13 episodes so far and counting, the first season of Taco Chronicles highlights six types of meats found in Mexican tacos, including Pastor, Carnitas, Canasta, Asada, Barbacoa, and Guisado. The second season offers a rich history of various types of cuisine such as Suadero, Cochinita, Cabrito, American Taco, Burrito, Birria, and Pescado.

8 Flavorful Origins (2019)

For foodies with little time and even shorter attention spans, Flavorful Origins is the perfect Netflix cooking show to watch. The series about various Chinese cuisine and customs comes in short doses of 10-12 minute episodes at a time.

With 40 episodes so far, the first volume of the show highlights various Chaoshan Cuisine, the second series focuses on Yunnan Cuisine, and the third and most recent chapter revolves around Gansu Cuisine. Everything from mutton, flaxseed, fish sauce, galangal, and beef noodles to Niang pi, lei cha, tofu cake, mussels, pickled vegetables, and more are highlighted.

7 The Final Table (2018)

One of the more comprehensive cooking competitions on Netflix currently belongs to The Final Table, a sweeping international production still awaiting a second season.

The first nine episodes of the 10-chapter competition feature teams of professional chefs from various countries such as Mexico, Spain, the UK, Brazil, India, the USA, Italy, Japan, and France. The final episode pits the winners from each country against one another as they are forced to cook alone.

6 Ugly Delicious (2018)

Acclaimed Korean-American chef David Chang currently has two culinary shows on Netflix. The first is called Ugly Delicious, which has so far lasted two seasons and 16 episodes. The other is a spinoff series entitled Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, which features Chang interviewing celebrities about their culinary heritage.

In addition to showcasing his personality, Ugly Delicious entails Chang traveling to various regions around the world to sample the local cuisine. Everything from pizza, tacos, and fried chicken to fried rice, BBQ, and home-cooking is featured.

5 Street Food (2019)

Culinary enthusiasts are sure to fall in love with Netflix’s Asian and Latin American versions of Street Food, which centers on local, affordable fare from some of the most exotic locales in the world.

Street Food: Asia serves dishes from Thailand, Japan, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, and the Philippines. Street Food: Latin America showcases cuisine from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Columbia, and Bolivia. The 30-minute episodes are fast, informative, and highly appetizing for all viewers.

4 Somebody Feed Phil (2018)

The fourth season of the wildly popular cooking show, Somebody Feed Phil, debuted on Netflix on October 30, 2020. With 22 episodes and counting, the series follows Hollywood producer and self-proclaimed foodie Phil Rosenthal (Everybody Loves Raymond), as he spans the globe sampling regional cuisine.

Phil’s most recent sojourn takes him to Rio De Janeiro, San Francisco, Singapore, the Mississippi Delta, and Hawaii, five disparate locations that offer even more diverse dishes.

3 The Chef Show (2019)

One of the absolute best cooking shows currently streaming on Netflix is The Chef Show, a docu-series that is loosely adapted from Jn Favreau’s 2014 film Chef.

In addition to recreating the various Cuban dishes seen in the film, director Jon Favreau teams with successful Korean-American chef, restaurateur, and Los Angeles native Roy Choi to explore a wide buffet of regional food recipes. When Roy isn’t making Jon do all the hard work, the two men travel and speak with some of the most renowned, award-winning chefs from across the country.

2 Chef’s Table (2015)

Created in 2015, Chef’s Table is one of Netflix’s most beloved and longest-running original culinary shows. With 30 episodes stretched over six seasons so far, the hour-long show chronicles various high-profile chefs in and out of the kitchen. The show is currently ranked #200 on IMDB’s TV Top 250.

The most recent season of the series focuses on American chef Mashama Bailey, Italian veterinarian-turned butcher Dario Cecchini, Indian chef Asma Khan, and 2010 James Beard Award-winning American cook Sean Brock.

1 The Great British Baking Show (2010)

In terms of longevity and popularity, the best show to stream on Netflix right now is The Great British Baking Show. Created in 2010, the BBC show has been on the air for 11 seasons and 141 episodes so far.

The premise of the competition series consists of various bakers tasked with performing three challenges each week, with the weakest links eliminated at the end of each episode by judges Paul Hollywood, Mary Berry, and Prue Leith. The show currently ranks #192 on IMDB’S Top 250 TV Shows.
