After Meet the Parents became one of the biggest box office hits of 2000, the studio got to work on a sequel following the setup from the first movie. At the end of the original, when Ben Stiller’s unfortunate hero Greg Focker has finally won over his girlfriend’s parents, Jack (Robert De Niro) and Dina (Blythe Danner), they mention that they’ll have to meet his parents.

2004’s Meet the Fockers was an even bigger box office hit than its predecessor, largely thanks to the perfect casting of Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand as Greg’s parents. While Meet the Fockers wasn’t as critically acclaimed as the first movie, the sequel still has plenty of hilarious lines.

10 “50 Fockers, What Could Be Better?” – Jack

While the Byrnes family is staying under the Fockers’ roof, Bernie and Roz decide to throw a giant party on Focker Isle and invite dozens of Fockers from across the globe to meet Greg’s fiancée and her parents.

Ahead of the party, Roz tells Jack that the guest list is up to a whopping 50 Fockers. Being in the same room as that many incarnations of Greg is Jack’s worst nightmare. As usual, De Niro nails the deadpan delivery.

9 “We Fockerized Him!” – Bernie

The main clash between the Focker and Byrnes families is in their parenting styles. Jack believes in the Ferber method and is “Ferberizing” his grandson by leaving him to cry instead of showing him love and affection.

Bernie and Roz used the opposite technique when they were raising Greg, giving him all the hugs he wanted. As a play on “Ferberizing,” Bernie calls this parental method “Fockerizing.”

8 “I’m Wondering Why You Run Around With A Rubber Boob Strapped To Your Chest!” – Roz

Debbie’s infant son “Little Jack” stays with Jack and Dina during their trip to Focker Isle, and in order to avoid confusion, Jack breastfeeds the baby with a rubber mold of Debbie’s breast that he calls “the man-ary gland.”

When Jack questions the Fockers’ way of life, Roz questions his own and wonders why he spends his days with a rubber breast attached to his chest.

7 “It’s Nice, All Of Us Being Here Together, Don’t You Think?” – Bernie

Jack Byrnes and Bernie Focker are polar opposites. Jack values his privacy while Bernie has no boundaries. One morning, Jack steps out of the shower to find Bernie sitting on the toilet. Bernie kindly says, “Morning, partner,” to a dismayed Jack.

After the initial pleasantries, Jack politely asks Bernie to leave the room so he can towel off in peace. With perfect comic timing, Bernie says, “Almost done,” and gets on with his business.

6 “Bingo, Bango, Bongo!” – Judge Ira

Comedy legend Shelley Berman, best known for playing Larry David’s dad in Curb Your Enthusiasm, gives a scene-stealing turn in Meet the Fockers as Judge Ira, one of the most enthusiastic students in Roz’s sex class.

In Roz’s own words, “The man is loose, he’s limber, and he’s ready for action.” When he’s feeling particularly virile, Judge Ira utters his catchphrase, “Bingo, bango, bongo!”

5 “You Meet His Kids, Randy And Orny?” – Greg

When Bernie and Roz host a party for dozens of their fellow Fockers, the writers take the opportunity to make some puns based on Greg’s last name.

Jack tells Greg that he met his dad’s first cousin “Dom Focker,” then Greg asks if he met Dom’s kids, Randy Focker and Orny Focker. Wordplay is always fun, even when it’s this on the nose.

4 “If It’s Yellow, Let It Mellow; If It’s Brown, Flush It Down… Oops, Forgot My Own Rule.” – Bernie

Just like the overflowing septic tank in Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers introduces plumbing issues that lead to gross-out gags later in the movie.

Bernie tells Jack and Dina that due to a water shortage on the island, they’re operating on an “If it’s yellow, let it mellow; if it’s brown, flush it down” policy. Then, Bernie peeks in the toilet, laughs off the fact that he forgot his own rule, and flushes it down.

3 “Only The Captain Gets To Honk The Horn.” – Jack

Before Jack and Dina actually meet the Fockers, Meet the Fockers is briefly a road movie about Greg and Pam’s family driving down to Focker Isle in Jack’s tricked-out RV. But it’s more of a tank than a recreational vehicle. It’s made of reinforced steel that can withstand a brick being thrown at it and the driver sits in a soundproof booth at the front.

In this booth, Jack dons a captain’s hat and introduces Greg to the loudspeaker. Greg asks if he can make an announcement, but Jack tells him, “Only the captain gets to make an announcement, Greg.” After a beat, Jack asks Greg if he’d like to honk the horn, Greg says yes, and Jack once again says that it’s a privilege only afforded to the captain.

2 “Mom, You Were Riding Him Like Seabiscuit!” – Greg

After Bernie takes a friendly game of football too far and slams Jack to the ground on his already-sensitive back, Roz offers to give him a massage. Greg peeks in during the massage and sees his mom straddling Jack’s back, shoving him around the table.

When an exasperated Greg confronts her about the wildly inappropriate massage, Roz insists that she was just giving him a typical treatment. But Greg says she was riding him like a racehorse.

1 “A**… Hole…” – Little Jack

As if it wasn’t already going to be tough enough to convince Jack that Greg is fit to be a parent, Greg goes and teaches Jack’s prized grandchild his first word: “a**hole.” And just in case Jack would overlook that, while Greg’s back is turned, Little Jack glues his hands to a bottle of rum and puts Scarface on the TV.

Jack is horrified enough when he returns to find Little Jack drinking liquor and watching a violent gangster movie, but he’s even more furious when he hears the boy’s profane first word through the baby monitor.
