Dan Brown’s symbologist Robert Langdon (Ashley Zukerman) returns in The Lost Symbol, a series that follows the scholarly hero as a young man prior to the events of The Da Vinci Code trilogy. When his mentor goes missing, Langdon is forced to leave Harvard and solve a series of puzzles to keep him from harm, all the while getting closer to revealing a conspiracy that threatens to affect the entire world.

Similar to The Lost Symbol, Blood & Treasure places an emphasis on religion, symbology, and ancient cultures (with there also being globe-trotting adventures that often put the experts in harm’s way). It’s more glamorous than the former, with the leads often infiltrating fancy soirees to obtain clues for the next leg of their journey, but it never loses sight of its focus — an epic treasure hunt.

9 Evil (2019 – Present)

Evil focuses on the investigations of a forensic psychologist and a priest, who are looking into the bizarre circumstances surrounding an old church. With their combination of skepticism and faith, they try to attribute meaning to possession, stigmata, and miracles. Clues lead them to the very origins of evil, which may defy any rational explanation.

The Lost Symbol often positions Langdon at the crossroads of reason and faith, where he uses the former to explain the latter until circumstances defy any scientific or logical explanation. His stories rarely end up being as steeped in the supernatural as Evil, and the “demons” he encounters exist more probably in human vessels. However, the need to explain the impossible remains a strong pull in both.

When two Secret Service agents get put in charge of a top-secret facility out in the middle of South Dakota, they could never imagine that within Warehouse 13, there are some of the most powerful artifacts ever collected by the U.S. government. They’re tasked with not only protecting the warehouse but also investigating unexplainable paranormal activity that might lead to more acquisitions.

While Warehouse 13 may have more of a supernatural bend than The Lost Symbol, it does feature iconography, symbology, and relics that are attributed to the religious and the spiritual, while also begging the question — could they be the work not of humans or gods, but of something else in the universe?

5 The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992 – 1993)

The Lost Symbol begins with Robert Langdon’s mentor in peril, seeming to be at the mercy of a calculated villain. There is also a plot to overturn the world’s governing powers, using arcane symbols only Langdon can decode. 2 Timeless (2016 – 2018)

Timeless takes a diverting look at history, from the whimsical to the heartbreaking, and features some of its most famous icons. However, like The Lost Symbol, it has a pulse for fast-paced excitement involving alternate aspects of well-documented circumstances. The team knows that, ultimately, whatever they do, they must protect history at all costs, because one small change could end up changing everything.

1 Sherlock (2010 – 2017)
