Adolesence is also a tough, insecure time and that makes dealing with slashers or the supernatural even more impactful.
From a few classic ’90s teen horror movies to a few more contemporary flicks that tell stories about high schoolers, there are many movies that have been recommended by Reddit users.
10 Ginger Snaps (2001)

This Canadian horror movie has become a cult favorite and tells the story of two sisters whose lives change forever when Ginger becomes a werewolf and Brigitte is left to pick up the pieces. 9 Fear Street Trilogy (2021)
Fear Street has great characters and horror fans love the Netflix trilogy based on R.L. Stine’s young adult book series. The first movie in particular reminds audiences of ’90s horror as the main characters live in a small town and are dealing with a serial killer. Of all the horror movies that have been released in the past few years, these ones have stood out as being memorable and special.

While many horror movies feature high school couples who are deciding to have sex, this movie is all about a serial killer who murders people who haven’t slept with anyone yet. It’s a hook that keeps audiences invested and while the movie isn’t without its flaws, it’s still entertaining.
6 Prom Night (1980)
One Redditor recommended “Prom Night” and the movie is definitely a fun classic to revisit.
The movie tells a familiar horror story of a killer who wants revenge for a tragedy that took place years prior, but since it takes place on prom night, that’s a flawless setting. Teenagers put so much hope and faith on this dance being perfect and since everyone is together and dressed in fancy outfits, the horror seems even worse and more compelling.
5 Halloween H20 (1998)

Fans of the Halloween franchise hold the original movie up as the best one, but this movie has its merits too. Laurie runs Hillcrest Academy and it’s fun seeing her in this setting. The movie also features Laurie’s son John, who has a serious relationship with his classmate Molly. When Michael returns, fans are reminded of why they love this franchise so much.
4 Final Destination (2000)
The many deaths in Final Destination are horrifying and Reddit user Zizzazz101 recommends “Final Destination” as a great high school horror movie.
While the movie sets up the franchise, which follows various young adults as they are chased by death, the first movie in particular is a perfect high school story. Teenager Alex takes a big risk by standing out from the crowd and causing a scene when he and his classmates board a flight to Paris. Instead of just ignoring his instincts, he shares that he thinks that the plane will crash, proving that he doesn’t care about being cool or popular.
3 Scream (1996)
Scream is not only an iconic movie but also a great teen horror movie. Reddit user ReArc wrote, “Scream will always be my number one.”
From high school parties to the thrill of having some unexpected days off, Scream focuses on teenagehood while also telling the story of Ghostface getting revenge on Sidney. The movie wouldn’t feel the same if it wasn’t about a few teenagers who are giddy and excited about what’s going on in their town and not taking the horror seriously.

This movie is an excellent story about teenagers, as Max is dealing with the tragic loss of her mom Amanda, who starred in a campy horror movie called Camp Bloodbath. Max and her friends find themselves literally in the movie, which makes for an incredibly entertaining 91 minutes.
