10 Big Brother Cast Members Accused Of Being Out Of Touch With Reality
Over the years, Big Brother has had more than its fair share of off-kilter houseguests who made fans wonder what exactly their deal was.

In the more than 20 years that Big Brother has been on television, viewers have seen many colorful characters move in and out of the house. Some, like Derrick Levasseur (season 16) or Vanessa Rousso (season 17) are considered to be the smartest players ever.
Some houseguests, however, are known for displaying traits of a less dominating or strategic nature and approached the game, or perhaps life in general, from a wild and different point of view, to varying degrees of success as players. These fan-favorite eccentric troublemakers left Big Brother fans wondering what exactly was going on inside their heads.
Dick Donato (Seasons 8 & 13)
Dick’s strategy was to be as rude and obnoxious to as many people as possible, as often as possible. He was loud-mouthed and often back-talked other contestants, even his own daughter, Danielle. In fact, it’s his relationship with his daughter (and the terrible things about her that Dick has no problem saying on camera) that has many people wondering if he can conceptualize himself as having any flaws at all. If Danielle was as selfish, spoiled, and self-indulgent as Dick was so fond of saying, then perhaps it was because her father is selfish, spoiled, and self-indulgent Dick. Regardless, Dick is considered to be among the best Big Brother winners, ever.
Jen Johnson (Season 8)
Jen will forever be remembered as the gal who cried inconsolably when she saw her memory wall photo, which she found unflattering to the confusion of everyone and the annoyance of some. Such a dramatic and uncontrolled display on national television over something so trivial made her instantly infamous for being one of the most unaware players in the history of the game. Jen is also known for not being aware of the difference between wit and cringe, choosing to wear shirts with painfully unfunny puns on her name, such as the cringe-inducing “jenius”. Love her or hate her, fans agreed that Jen seemed to be living in her own world while in the house.
Jozea Flores (Season 18)
Jozea had a loud, abrasive personality that audiences disliked almost immediately. This fan disdain strayed into hostility when Jozea decided it would be a good idea to wander around the house and commit a bit of blasphemy by loudly proclaiming himself to be “the Messiah,” This strategy, unsurprisingly, did not work for Jozea, since not only did he not win his season, but he is considered to be one of the worst Big Brother losers ever to appear on the show.
Justin Sebik (Season 2)
Some Big Brother players are merely eccentric, but Justin crossed the line in season 2, becoming a threat to everyone else in the house. While heavily intoxicated, he held a knife up to the neck of another player, threatened everyone in the house, and chillingly asked, “Would you get mad if I killed you?” He later tried to use the tired old “just a joke, bro” excuse to take some of the heat off of himself, but everyone agreed that he went way too far, and even if they were empty threats made to give himself some sort of leverage in the game, they were unacceptable. Justin was expelled from the house.
Jessie Godderz (Seasons 10 & 11)
Jessie is widely considered to be the most narcissistic player of all time, a feat in and of itself. He eventually upped his narcissism to the level of god-complex when he nearly started his very own cult of personality, having a gaggle of minions who surrounded him and seemed oddly dependent upon him.
This strange strategy, if indeed it was just a strategy, did not help him, since he lost both seasons in which he played. Jessie behaved in a pompous, arrogant, and self-absorbed manner on Big Brother to an outrageous degree, even going so far as to call himself “Mr. Pec-tacular.”
Josh Martinez (Season 19)
Josh Martinez surprised everyone when he marched through the house, banging pots and pans together while yelling bizarre near-gibberish. While this clearly was a thought-out strategy and not some kind of serious situation, many fans wondered if he took it a bit too far, since his performance was so authentic. Unlike some of the other wild schemes that players have cooked up in order to get an advantage, this one actually worked for Josh, and he won season 19.
Frankie Grande (Season 16)
Frankie was the then-secret brother of Ariana Grande who admitted to going into the Big Brother house fully expecting to be the fan-favorite from Day 1. While he started out being relatively well-liked by audiences, his bullying behavior and self-absorbed nature caused everyone to cringe pretty hard when he was on camera. He had lost touch with the reality of the show, and his own “secret identity”, by constantly bragging about the number of Instagram followers he has in real life. It’s worth nothing, though, that he is indeed the most popular Big Brother contestant on Instagram with more than 2 million followers.
Jackson Michie (Season 21)
Fans speculate that Michie may have lost touch with reality when he became a conspiracy theorist. With no evidence other than his own convictions, Michie accused two housemates of having known each other previous to meeting on the show, and he ran with the concept.
He went on to win the season, so maybe it was all a calculated move to gain an advantage, but he didn’t win without without controversy, as he has been accused of cheating his way to the top spot. Specifically, he was accused of eating non-slop food in the shower while a Have Not. Though never officially being charged with cheating, he can clearly be seen on video chewing on something in the shower.
Willie Hantz (Season 14)
Willie is the brother of the infamous fan-favorite Survivor contestant Russell Hantz. Like his brother, Willie had an unpredictable and violent nature. He was expelled after he went into a raging, violent tantrum and actually head-butted another contestant. Such a violent outburst over essentially nothing had many people questioning his motives, and he was expelled on day 14, immediately after his Head of Household status had expired.
Aaryn Gries (Season 15)
Aaryn seemingly lost touch with reality and the social norms of society when she thought she could get away with saying terribly racist and homophobic things on television with no repercussions at all. She even continued in this way after being called out by another player. First, she blamed it on her “Southern heritage,” and when that didn’t garner sympathy, she changed her tune and claimed she didn’t remember any of it. The audience booed her loudly, and, judging by the look on her face, she had absolutely no idea why, demonstrating just how out of touch with the reality of her situation she was.
