10 Characters That Are Inexplicably Absent In Twin Peaks Season 3

Twin Peaks took living rooms by storm when it premiered in April, 1990. Unfortunately, some of that thunder slowed down in the show’s second season, prompting its cancellation despite a shocking cliffhanger. Only twenty-five years later did a third season bring most of the essential players back together to continue one of the most enigmatic and fascinating stories ever told through the medium.

Not everybody returned, however, leaving many characters’ actions during this time a mystery. While some extended universe literature sheds light on some Twin Peak’s residences, the show’s third season makes almost no mention of the following characters.

10 Leo Johnson

Those who hated Leo Johnson’s cruel and abusive treatment towards Shelly must have delighted in seeing him tormented by Windom Earle during the latter half of the second season. Before kidnapping Annie and heading to the Red Room, Windom leaves Leo Johnson in an extremely compromising position. Is Leo still sitting in the rundown cabin holding the spider above his head in a cage, or did he somehow find a way out of the trap?

9 Chester Desmond

10 Characters That Are Inexplicably Absent In Twin Peaks Season 3

The first segment of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me follows Chester Desmond and Sam Stanley investigating the murder of Teresa Banks. Shortly into the film, Chester disappears without a trace. Evidence hints to him being taken to the Black Lodge, but no one can be certain. Some closure regarding the character would have been nice, as well as seeing Chris Isaak return to the role.

8 Donna Hayward

10 Characters That Are Inexplicably Absent In Twin Peaks Season 3

Donna goes through a whole range of emotional trauma throughout the series, starting with the death of her good friend Laura Palmer. The second season sees her leave town indefinitely after discovering her father might be Ben Horne. The Hayward family in general receives little attention in the third season, except for one scene with Will Hayward, so fans do not know if she ever came back.

7 Catherine Martell

Catherine Martell is a ruthless businesswoman, but she softens up a bit during the second season after a brush with death. Sadly, her husband and brother die in a bank explosion during the season finale. Audiences never see her deal with this tragedy, nor do they know what she does in the twenty-five years between the original run and the revival. The character might not even be alive anymore.

6 Windom Earle

Dale Cooper’s former partner is the primary antagonist of the second season’s latter half. Windom Earle torments Cooper and goes on a killing spree while searching for the Black Lodge. Upon entering he attempts to take Dale’s soul, only for Bob to deny him the power and take his soul instead. Unlike other characters who have succumbed to Bob, Windom never shows up again and is not possessed by the spirit. Perhaps Bob has no desire to possess already evil people.

5 Lana Budding Milford

Lana marries the mayor’s brother who mysteriously dies on their wedding night. Mayor Milford insists that it was murder, but all evidence points to a heart attack.

Lana’s power over men extends beyond her conventional beauty. The way she attracts them is hypnotizing, to the point of making the mayor fall in love with her only moments after he threatens to kill her with a shotgun. After leaving the town, she never returns.

4 Dick Tremayne

10 Characters That Are Inexplicably Absent In Twin Peaks Season 3

Dick Tremayne is Lucy’s love interest for a short while and potential father to her baby. Ultimately, she chooses Andy as the father regardless of his biological connection. After the Miss Twin Peaks contest, the character is never seen nor heard from again. Considering how some characters showed up in just one scene, it was surprising to see him wholly absent from the third season.

3 Hank Jennings

Hank Jennings is as low as they come, a gun for hire who destroys lives without a second thought. The only good thing he did was shoot Leo Johnson, thus ending Shelly’s abusive marriage. He ends the series alone as his wife, Norma, abandons him in Jail. Given the twenty-five year gap between seasons, it would have been a pleasant surprise to see him released after a long stint behind bars.

2 Josie Packard

Josie Packard is lucky enough to at least pops up in stock footage, but it does not bring fans any closer to knowing what happens after she dies. After fainting and losing her life, she appears to get stuck in a doorknob of The Great Northern Hotel. Is she still haunting the building or did her spirit finally find some rest after living such a hard life? She may have done some bad things, but she never felt like she had a choice.

1 Annie Blackburn

After surviving the terrible ordeal with Windom Earl during the second season’s conclusion, Annie Blackburn ends up in the hospital in a comatose state. Unfortunately, the third season does not revisit the character, nor does Dale Cooper bring her up in any manner. Heather Graham is still acting, so it is a shame they did not bring her back to give fans an update about Annie’s condition.
