10 DCEU Supporting Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

The DCEU has hit a lot of starts and stops over the past decade. As a result, things have changed and morphed throughout the years. What was supposed to start with Green Lantern instead started with Man of Steel, and thanks to bad reviews, things changed again after Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and again after Justice League.

With that said, every movie had high points, and in many cases, it was due to supporting characters that threatened to steal the show every time they appeared on the screen. Whether friends or allies, so many characters deserved more significant roles in the movies or future films down the line.

10 Antiope

Antiope first appeared in Wonder Woman, portrayed by Robin Wright. Queen Hippolyta, the mother of Diana, considered Antiope the greatest warrior in the history of the Amazons. It was Antiope who trained Diana as a child in combat, and she is responsible for the warrior that Diana grew to become over time.

As great as the character was, Antiope died in the German attack of Themyscira. She deserved so much more, and there is always hope flashbacks will allow Wright to return to the DCEU at Antiope.

9 Martha Kent

Jonathan and Martha Kent played a considerable role in the development of Clark Kent into the hero that the world would one day know as Superman. However, the portrayal of the couple in Man of Steel was polarizing, as Jonathan’s instructions were questionable, to say the least.

Martha, played by the fantastic Diane Lane, was still a small part of Clark’s life after that, but nowhere near as much as she deserved in those movies. The trailer for the Snyder Cut of Justice League makes it appear she will get more screen time there.

8 Alfred Pennyworth

10 DCEU Supporting Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

One of the most iconic Batman characters in history is Alfred Pennyworth. In the various movies, Alfred has enjoyed different levels of screen time, with Michael Caine getting a ton of great scenes in Christopher Nolan’s films.

With Jeremy Irons signing on as Alfred in the DCEU, it seemed like the new Batman movies would see him taking on a prominent role again. While Irons was there to bounce ideas off Batman, and he was the “man in the chair” for Justice League, he didn’t get nearly enough screen time.

7 Calvin Swanwick

10 DCEU Supporting Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

The character of Calvin Swanwick was destined for great things, but in the end, he was just a footnote for the DCEU. Portrayed by Harry Lennix, Swanwick was the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America. He first appeared in Man of Steel as a general who formed an alliance with Superman to beat General Zod.

However, there was so much more in store for the military man turned Secretary of Defense. Most rumors indicate that Zack Snyder planned for Swanwick actually to be Martian Manhunter, and not introducing this into the DCEU is a massive missed opportunity.

6 Perry White

When Laurence Fishburne appears in a movie, he needs to be used to the greatest effect possible. In Man of Steel, Fishburne portrays Perry White, the editor’in-chief of the Daily Planet newspaper.

He spends most of that movie just butting heads with Lois Lane. He also appears in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, where he butts heads with Clark Kent. Perry White deserved so much more than what Zack Snyder offered him.

5 Amanda Waller

10 DCEU Supporting Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

The fact that Amanda Waller only appeared in one movie in the DCEU is tragic. The fact that she was simply a woman who needs to be saved was even worse. Waller is someone who manipulates people on every level of the spectrum, from heroes and villains to the government itself.

She did an excellent job of manipulating people in Suicide Squad, but she was never the threat that the character needed to be. With an actress like Viola Davis in the role, Waller should have been a much bigger part of the DCEU.

4 Katana

10 DCEU Supporting Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

Out of all the villains in Suicide Squad, the team threw in one hero. This was Katana. In the comics, Katana was a real force of nature, using her Soultaker Sword to capture the souls of the people she kills. She was part of Batman’s Outsiders and Birds of Prey and worked with Suicide Squad in the comics.

However, in the movie, Katana was just another body and not even one that had a chance to shine. She spoke little, which made sense based on her status but it left her as the least memorable character in the movie.

3 Etta Candy

10 DCEU Supporting Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

Ella Candy is one of those characters that just stole every scene she appeared. She was Steve Trevor’s assistant in Wonder Woman, and she was never afraid to speak the truth. When she met Diana, the two immediately hit it off, and they shared some great back-and-forth.

Portrayed by Lucy Davis, Etta Candy is someone who deserved so much more screen time, and thanks to the fact that she was a mere human in World War I, her time in the DCEU has ended.

2 Silas Stone

10 DCEU Supporting Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

From all indications, Silas Stone will get more screen time in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, and he deserves it. However, based on the trailer, that might mark the end for Silas as well, which means the DCEU is taking a significant loss when it comes to a quality character.

Joe Morton played Silus, the father to Vic Stone, and the man who turned him into Cyborg. With his status in S.T.A.R. Labs and the importance of the facility in DC, he should have played a bigger role in the movies.

1 Mary Bromfield

The Marvel Family played a large part in the climax of Shazam!, but only Billy Batson and Freddy Freeman had a chance to develop their characters. This is disappointing as fans of the comics know how vital Mary Marvel is in the family itself.

In the movie, she only had a small chance to play a part, showing how much she cared about the family, but other than that, Mary was just a side character that never got the screen time she deserved.
