It’s been a while since Alex Michel and Andrew Firestone were introduced as the Bachelors. So what have they, and the others, been up to since then?

The Bachelor is one of the most popular reality programs in TV history. Many of its titular bachelors become quite famous following their respective seasons, with their careers often verging in different and unique directions. Most bachelors appear on the show with some type of high-end, “prestigious” job like banker, CEO, and military personnel. However, this is just part of their charm. They also have to capture the viewers’ hearts with their personalities too.

As the show is nearly twenty years old, it’s very interesting to see what the earliest bachelors have been up to in recent years. A lot can happen in twenty years, both personally and professionally, and these bankers and CEOs may have traveled down a different career path. This is what the earliest bachelors have been doing as of late.

10 Alex Michel

Serving as the very first Bachelor, Alex Michel was 31 years old when the first season premiered in March 2002. He ended up choosing Amanda Marsh, although he did not propose. They proceeded to date for one year before splitting.

Following the success of The Bachelor, Michel became a spokesperson for various high-profile companies, including Match.com and Princess Cruises. According to his LinkedIn profile, Michel is currently working as a managing director for Generation Consulting.

9 Aaron Buerge

The second Bachelor was Aaron Buerge, a banker with an engineering degree from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Buerge ended up choosing Helene Eksterowicz and proposed. However, they ended up calling their engagement off after just a few weeks.

Buerge is now married to a woman named Angye McIntosh, and they have two daughters. According to Buerge’s LinkedIn, he worked as President and CEO of First National Bank of Clinton/Springfield until 2018, and now works as the director of Legacy Bank and Trust.

8 Andrew Firestone

Andrew Firestone is the third Bachelor and great-grandson of Harvey Firestone, the founder of Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. He chose and proposed to Jen Schefft. However, like Aaron Buerge and Helene Eksterowicz, they split after just a few short months.

He is now married to Ivana Bozilovic, and the two have three children. Firestone worked as the national sales manager for Firestone Family Estates from 2003 to 2007 and has since founded StonePark Capital, which “focus[es] on the acquisition and development of hospitality investment opportunities.”

7 Bob Guiney

Guiney got his start on The Bachelorette and proved so popular that he was chosen as the fourth Bachelor. He chose Estella Gardinier, but the two split soon after the show’s conclusion. Guiney then became a television host, hosting a Game Show Network program called GSN Live until 2011.

According to his LinkedIn, Guiney remains a very busy man. He works as VP Development/Executive Producer at Box of Flies, Live Event Host of Robert Guiney Inc, and Account Executive at Lincoln Financial Group.

6 Jesse Palmer

While serving as the fifth Bachelor in 2004, Jesse Palmer was coming off a professional NFL career with the New York Giants. He since played for the San Francisco 49ers and Canadian Football League team Montreal Alouettes. Palmer chose Jessica Bowlin, but he didn’t propose, which meant the couple soon split.

Palmer is still active in the football business, writing columns for the Canadian publication TSN and working as an ESPN analyst. He has also hosted various programs, including DailyMailTV, Spring Baking Championship, Holiday Baking Championship, and The Proposal.

5 Byron Velvick

Fishermen Byron Velvick is a WON Bass U.S. Open champion, and shortly after his appearance on The Bachelor in 2004, he became a commentator for ESPN’s BassCenter. Velvick chose and married Cuban bachelorette Maribel Delgado, and the two actually remained together for five years. Unfortunately, they split in December of 2009.

Velvick continued to work under ESPN, serving as a fishing reporter and analyst. He has since retired to spend time with his family.

4 Charlie O’Connell

Charlie O’Connell is the younger brother of actor Jerry O’Connell, known for movies like Jerry Maguire and Scream 2. He appeared as the show’s seventh Bachelor, choosing Sarah Brice as his bachelorette. They dated on and off until 2010 when they permanently called it quits.

O’Connell continues to act, appearing in the TV series The Haunted Hathaways in 2014 and the movies A Curry on an American Plate (2017) and Staged Killer (2019).

3 Travis Lane Stork

While appearing on season 8 of The Bachelor, Travis Lane Stork was undergoing a medicine residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He chose Sarah Stone, but the two split up shortly after the season aired. The season aired from January to February of 2006.

Two years later, he began working as a host on the syndicated daytime talk show The Doctors. He stayed with the show until September 2020, when it was decided that hosting duties would be relegated solely to Ian K. Smith.

2 Lorenzo Borghese

Lorenzo Borghese is heir to the Borghese family, being the grandson of cosmetics company founder Princess Marcella Borghese. Borghese chose Jennifer Wilson as winner, but the two soon split and he began dating runner-up Sadie Murray.

In 2012, Borghese co-founded Animal Aid USA, a charity that “relocates animals from kill-shelters to loving homes.” A few years later, he co-founded the Miami-based South Beach Brewing Company. He currently serves as president for both companies.

1 Andrew Baldwin

Baldwin was the bachelor on the tenth season, titled The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman. At the time, Baldwin was working as a physician and US Navy officer. He ended up choosing social worker Tessa Horst, but the two had split by the end of the year.

Baldwin has since established the Got Your Back Network, which raises funds to help support “military families who [have lost a loved one] while they were serving the country”. He also became the ambassador for Challenge Family. Currently, he a board-certified family physician at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.
