Typically, Scooby-Doo does not have the most intimidating villains. Oftentimes, they are just a bit goofy and played for laughs.

10 Goofiest Villains In The Original ScoobyDoo Series Ranked

The imagery of villains for audiences of all ages has almost always been one of evildoers, malevolent forces, and monsters larger than life. The word villain and monster are synonymous in invoking fear and terror in audiences. Unless the villains are coming from Scooby-Doo, one of the best on-screen dog companions out there, that is.

Of course, seeing as Scooby-Doo, a series full of amazing quotes is meant for kids, and despite some truly scary moments, many of the show’s villains end up being guys in masks, and oftentimes, even the masks the baddies wear exhibit hilarious and goofy monsters.

10 Black Knight

10 Goofiest Villains In The Original ScoobyDoo Series Ranked

Scooby-Doo, without a doubt, has some iconic and amazing villains running about. From the Creeper to the Green Ghosts, the list goes on and the Black Knight is definitely on it. That being said… the Knight’s pretty ridiculous.

Beyond the fact that it’s got two yellow eyes peeking out from within the helmet in a comedic fashion, the whole idea behind the Black Knight’s hilarious. All it really is is a big old suit of armor running about. Even if there’s a ghost in there, it still looks funky.

9 Snow Monster

10 Goofiest Villains In The Original ScoobyDoo Series Ranked

Again, a lot of the monsters from Scooby-Doo are definitely iconic and well recognized but that’s not to say they’re not goofy when looking at them in hindsight. For first time viewers, the likes of the Snow Monster might be an intimidating and spooky beast to behold.

Yet, upon closer look, the beast appears less threatening and faker. After all, from the slack jaw mouth to the way it acts and its unbelievable roar, the Snow Monster, although still freaky, has over time lost that fear factor.

8 Ghost of Red Beard

10 Goofiest Villains In The Original ScoobyDoo Series Ranked

At the end of the day, audiences need to remember that all the villains the Scooby gang takes on are just guys wearing masks. There are a few outliers, like the ghouls on Zombie Island (one of Scooby-Doo’s best movies) but most, such as Ghost of Red Beard, look way too human.

Despite some spooky mist, Red Beard looks more like a discount Disney channel villain than a ghost. It does make one wonder how these crooked real estate agents managed to pull off these scams time again if their costumes were that shoddy.

7 Apeman

10 Goofiest Villains In The Original ScoobyDoo Series Ranked

Among those ingenious scams that the real estate agents created, it’s a wonder that some of them didn’t think more outside of the box than ghosts or savage animals. And yet, that tended to happen more times than audiences could count.

The apeman, one such villain who doesn’t need a whole of explanation, was a guy named Carl’s bright idea to try and make some extra dough. Honestly probably should’ve just gone with a ghost or ghoul, as a giant gorilla can look pretty fake at a closer examination.

6 Werewolf

10 Goofiest Villains In The Original ScoobyDoo Series Ranked

Look, animation in the 1960s was somewhat shoddy depending on the studio. The animation varied from project to project, including Scooby-Doo, the long running series that still has plenty of secrets for fans to uncover. Some episodes looked spectacular while others, not so much.

Of course, a werewolf on their own is a freaky idea and has been used in the series many a time. However, the werewolf from “Who’s afraid of the big bad werewolf?” was green. Whether it be an animated accident or intentional, it still stands out. How many werewolves out there are green? The answer: just one.

5 Headless Specter

10 Goofiest Villains In The Original ScoobyDoo Series Ranked

Now, a headless anything is meant to be a scary sight to be held. After all, the Headless Horseman is without a doubt one of the most iconic ghosts in folklore. In true Scooby-Doo fashion though, the Headless Specter is anything but scary.

There are numerous reasons for this. From a sporty coat that looks brand new to walking around with a candle (why does he need a light to see if he’s headless?), the Headless Specter, is as goofy as they come, and if anything, for the better.

4 Charlie the Robot

10 Goofiest Villains In The Original ScoobyDoo Series Ranked

Freaky robots can definitely cause a fright in the audience. After all, that’s what they’re meant to do a great deal of the time. From rogue AI to lifelike androids, spooky robots can always work if done correctly and designed well.

The truth is, Charlie the Robot just doesn’t look that good. All that’s really freaky are the blank eyes and stare. Other than that, it really just looks like yet another guy in a suit, and the lines substituting for a mouth don’t really help with the creature either.

3 Miner Forty-Niner

10 Goofiest Villains In The Original ScoobyDoo Series Ranked

It’s really not difficult to come up with a scary creature or monster to haunt mines. From evil coal monsters to simple ghosts, the possibilities are endless. Yet, for one reason or another, Hank thought a miner with a hat pulled low would be enough.

It’s not even how funny Miner Forty-Niner is. It’s enough to give anyone a stomach ache from the belly laughs. All the ghost is a guy dressed in an old prospector uniform with the hat pulled low.

2 Caveman

10 Goofiest Villains In The Original ScoobyDoo Series Ranked

Memes are without a doubt one of the greatest forms of comedy. True, some of them end up getting a little too dark for their own good but some are truly amazing, such as the ones Scooby-Doo inspired such as with the classic Caveman and Shaggy meme.

Yet, while the meme is highly enjoyable, the actual character of the Caveman is, like so many others, laughable. After all, the villain’s plan was to dress up as a caveman and hide in ice. What kind of plan is that?

1 Phantom

So many of the villains that torment the Scooby gang, no matter the iteration, are pretty creative guys. After all, they’d have to go to quite the lengths to craft the costumes and sell the story they create. However, that’s not to say all villains are intelligent.

Even though some of the ghosts are a bit shoddy, none are like the phantom, who is quite literally just a guy in a sheet running about. Even when utilizing a projector, the Phantom looks like a kids school project rather than a nefarious villain.
