Dope is a vibrant, funny, and moving story of a young gifted boy trapped in a neighborhood that seemingly doesn’t want him to succeed. Like the main character in Boyz n the Hood, Malcolm in Dope is an intelligent kid with so much potential but is surrounded by trouble.
The film follows Malcolm as he keeps finding himself sinking further and further into trouble just as a new opportunity to escape his world emerges. Though very funny at times, the movie is also not afraid to deliver some truly hard-hitting moments that show the reality of Malcolm’s world.

Miles’ journey is about having faith in himself and realizing that it’s okay to embrace the fact that he is special. It is a very moving story in the midst of all the comedy and action making it perhaps the more effective Spider-Man story yet.
