The Amazon series Invincible took an interesting and dark approach to tell a superhero story. But these days, it’s hard for any project in the superhero genre to not be compared to the MCU. Both of these worlds feature a vast collection of superpowered characters from many worlds and with varied views on morality.

While the style and tone of these projects feel quite different, there are some similarities between some of the main characters in both Invincible and the MCU. Though their superpowers may not be the same, their personalities, attitudes, and what they bring to the superhero world feel connected.

10 Shrinking Rae – Ant-Man

Looking at Shrinking Rae, a member of the new Guardians of the Globe, and Scott Lang, their similarities are quite apparent. Both heroes have the ability to shrink in size. But their connection doesn’t just stop at their powers.

Both of these heroes have incredible abilities but seem somewhat out of their element on their respective superhero teams. They are less confident than their teammates and tend to always look overwhelmed with what is going on. But when needed, they are true assets to their teams.

9 William – Ned

One of the most realistic aspects of Invincible is how Mark Grayson’s best friend William almost immediately realizes Mark is a superhero. After discovering Mark’s secret, William becomes his extremely excited and supportive confidant, helping Mark keep his identity a secret and being amazed by his superhero antics.

This is very reminiscent of Ned from the MCU’s Spider-Man movies. Like William, Ned finds out Peter Parker is Spider-Man very early. Instead of being freaked out, Ned is thrilled and becomes his “guy in the chair” to help him with his crime-fighting adventures.

8 Monster Girl – Hulk

Being able to transform into a giant monster like Monster Girl can seem pretty great, but it is actually one of the worst powers on Invincible. Though her transformation into a powerful beast is handy in a fight, it is also a curse for Monster Girl. Each time she transforms, she becomes younger, trapping her in the body of a young girl.

Bruce Banner has a similar power as Hulk. He is able to transform himself into a massive green monster who can do some real damage. But especially in the earlier days of the MCU, Bruce didn’t see these powers as a gift but rather a curse that needed to be cured.

7 Robot – Vision

When Robot is introduced in Invincible, he seems like the typical emotionless robot character. As the show continues, he is revealed to be a lot more complex and has his own feelings. He even develops an unexpected kinship with Monster Girl, further connecting him to humanity.

Vision started out as Tony Stark’s A.I. before becoming this android being. While he initially seemed detached from humanity, he continued to grow, thanks largely to his strange yet beautiful relationship with Wanda Maximoff.

6 Atom Eve – Captain Marvel

Atom Eve is a member of the Teen Team, but she very quickly comes out on her own as a superhero. Her cosmic abilities make her one of the strongest heroes on the show, but she is much more interested in helping people rather than fighting villains.

Captain Marvel has also established herself as perhaps the most powerful hero in the MCU. She can be intimidating to go up against in a fight and seems to prefer working alone. However, she also has a soft side, helping the Skrull refugee find a new home.

5 Rex Splode – Iron Man

At first glance, there might not seem like Rex Splode and Iron Man have a lot in common. One is a young superhero with the ability to make objects explode while the other is a genius billionaire with a suit of armor.

During Phase 1 of the MCU, Tony Stark was a very arrogant hero who took a casual approach to being a hero. Rex is similarly immature yet thinks highly of himself. The two also have a tendency to get into fights and bump heads with their teammates. Yet when the day needs to be saved, these two are willing to fight with everything they have left.

4 Cecil Steadman – Nick Fury

Though neither Cecil Steadman nor Nick Fury has superpowers, they have both established themselves as very powerful men in the world of supes. In both cases, these men run covert government operations that oversee superheroes.

Despite dealing with some of the most powerful beings in the universe, both of these men are always calm and coolheaded. They can sometimes make questionable judgment calls, like Cecil using D.A. Sinclair’s tech or Fury weaponizing the Tesseract, but it is all for the greater good.

3 Black Samson – Captain America

Black Samson is an interesting hero, as he once had superpowers only to lose them prior to the events of the show. However, that does not stop him from taking his superhero business very seriously. He builds a suit of armor and joins the Guardians of the Globe.

Like Black Samson, Steve Rogers proved that powers don’t make a hero as much as their spirit does. Even as a skinny kid, Steve was always a hero, which made him the perfect person to become Captain America. Also like Black Samson, he is the serious one on the team, keeping the other members in line and fighting with those who he feels don’t take it seriously.

2 Invincible – Spider-Man

It seems like any teen superhero is going to owe a lot to Peter Parker aka Spider-Man, and Mark Grayson aka Invincible is no different. At the beginning of the series, he is just discovering his powers and is getting caught up in the world of being a superhero. At the same time, he is a young teen dealing with bullies and girlfriends as well.

With the high school setting in MCU’s Spider-Man movies, Spider-Man and Invincible feel even more similar. Peter is shown dealing with those same teen problems while also geeking out about meeting the Avengers.

1 Omni-Man – Ego

Though Omni-Man seems like a powerful hero at first, he is eventually revealed as Invincible’s most threatening villain. He is a member of an alien race who conquers planets and spreads their power throughout the universe. When he fails to convince his son to join his mission, Omni-Man becomes a sadistic adversary.

Ego the Living Planet is very similar to Omni-Man in that respect. He is also a powerful alien who seeks to conqueror the universe. He also tries to get his son, Peter Quill, to join him in this evil plan only for Quill to fight back.
