The romantic comedy genre is one that provides people with sappy love stories, hilarious scenes, gorgeous stars and happy endings. Some are more dramatic, some lead to lots of tears, and all of them can teach viewers some valuable lessons.

While the primary goal of the film industry is to entertain, these stories can also provide guidance and enlightenment, including on the topic of love and relationships, which can be a tricky one to deal with and navigate and understand. In Sweet Home Alabama, Reese Witherspoon’s character goes home, rekindles a romance, and realizes what she really wants and needs in life. Hopefully, everyone else can find the same (whether it be with a Josh Lucas type or a Patrick Dempsey type!).

Lastly, be yourself at all times, including when it comes to the romance department. Hiding behind a mask (figuratively or literally) is something seen regularly in romantic comedies like A Cinderella Story, which starred Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray in 2004, and Never Been Kissed, which starred Drew Barrymore and Michael Vartan in 1999.

However, if these tales teach us anything, it is that Mr./Mrs. Right will love us for who we are. So show that off from the start!
