10 Lord Of The Rings Characters, Ranked Least To Most Likely To Win Squid Game

The many characters that appear in the Lord of the Rings would have very different fates if they were plunged into the bloody Squid Game.

The Squid Game, the title game of the hit Netflix series, is one of the most formidable competitions to appear in popular culture, pitting people against one another and exploiting their vulnerabilities. It forces people to make terrible choices and to become the worst versions of themselves in order to emerge victoriously.

The characters of The Lord of the Rings would, depending on their personalities and their abilities, make either formidable competitors in the game or, in some cases, barely make it through the first round. Which LotR character could win the entire Squid Games?

11 Frodo

Even though he is supposed to be the hero of the story, Frodo often finds himself at the mercy of forces beyond his control. Even when it comes to destroying the Ring, it actually comes down to a quirk of luck that sends it into the Crack of Doom.

Given these facts, it’s highly unlikely that the hobbit would do very well at the Squid Game, and he would almost certainly be killed by someone more ruthless than he is.

10 Samwise

In some ways, Samwise is even more sensitive than his master, Frodo. However, as with so many other hobbits, there’s a core of strength to this fellow that isn’t always obvious on the surface. After all, he’s able to lift Frodo up and carry him on the slopes of Mount Doom, despite his own weakness.

It’s this resilience that would serve him well, at least in the beginning, though his essentially good nature and tendency to do nice things mean that he would probably still lose the Squid Game.

9 Gimli

Like Sam, Gimli is almost indestructible, and like them, he has a good heart and a willingness to stick to a task no matter how difficult it becomes. He’s also a very capable fighter, which means that he could perform fairly well in the game. His competition with Legolas as to who can shoot more Orcs also shows that he has a competitive spirit.

Unfortunately, he also has some other characteristics that would not be very useful, including stubbornness and a lack of subtlety that would see him eliminated.

8 Aragorn

Aragorn is one of the most heroic characters to appear in the movies, and he has the power to make people want to follow him. Combined with his formidable fighting skills–he repeatedly shows that he can take down a significant number of Orcs while barely breaking a sweat–he would be a formidable competitor in the Squid Game.

At the same time, his innate sense of honor and duty would also mean that he wouldn’t have what it takes to actually win.

7 Boromir

Unlike Aragorn, Boromir is the type of man who understands that it’s sometimes necessary to do unpleasant things in the pursuit of a good end. It’s what motivates him to try to take the Ring from Frodo, even though he knows that it’s not his to have by right.

This frame of mind would make him a formidable power in the Squid Games, and it’s easy to see him being able to win some of the games, even if he might not be subtle enough to see it through to the end.

6 Gandalf

Gandalf is without a doubt one of the most powerful characters in the Lord of the Rings movies, even though he often has to hide that power because of his mission. He also shows repeatedly that he has a keen eye for strategy, as when he takes control of the defense of Minas Tirith after Denethor goes mad.

As a result, he’s just the type of person that would excel at the Squid Game although, as with some of the other heroes, he might not be quite ruthless enough to win.

5 Eowyn

Eowyn deserves a lot of credit for being one of the few female characters in the movie with significant screen time, and it’s also significant that she kills the very powerful and sinister Witch-king of Angmar.

She shows that she is both cunning and, in certain circumstances, ruthless, and her desire to exceed what others think she should be capable of means that she has what it takes to win the Squid Game without looking back with regret.

4 Legolas

Of all of the heroes of the story, Legolas is the most enigmatic. Given that he’s an Elf, he doesn’t have the same investment in the future of Middle-earth as the others, and though he helps defend the other members of the Fellowship, he always remains a bit aloof.

This suggests that he would be the kind of person that could forge some meaningful alliances during the Squid Game but that, when it came right down to it, he’d be determined to win no matter what it took.

3 Galadriel

Portrayed by Cate Blanchett in one of her best roles, Galadriel is one of the most powerful beings still living in Middle-earth. And, like the other Elves, she is a bit of an enigma. However, she clearly understands the value of marrying strategy to strength.

If she were to enter the Squid Game, it’s almost assured that she would have the kind of subtle mind that would allow her to both win individual contests and also manipulate others until she managed to emerge as the victor.

2 Sauron

Sauron is, of course, the major villain of the series, determined to bring the entirety of Middle-earth under his dominion.

He is just the type of person that would excel at the Squid Game, particularly as he is shown as being quite subtle and sophisticated in his thought and quite willing and able to manipulate (or bully) others into forming alliances with him. He would do whatever it took to win, no matter how many bodies he had to leave behind him.

1 Saruman

If Sauron has one competitor in Middle-earth for guile and manipulation, it would be Saruman. This is one of Christopher Lee’s best roles, and he brings out Saruman’s sense of entitlement and thirst for power.

Saruman is subtle enough to fool even the likes of Gandalf into thinking that he is actually a hero, and he is ruthless enough to form alliances and betray them when it’s convenient. He is, in other words, the ideal person to achieve victory in the Squid Game.
