The word mecha can refer to a couple of different things, particularly in big-screen movies. They can be gigantic, robotic beings that take on all comers in knockdown fights. Over the years, there have been several massive mecha movie characters. But some of them are just more impressive than others in the power department and dish out some incredible whuppings to their opponents.

10 Astro Boy Faced The Peacekeeper

One of the most enduring franchises of all time features the titular character Astro Boy. Originally known as Mighty Atom, the manga with this character debuted in 1952. But most audiences are familiar with the anime that featured Astro Boy.

While the 2009 feature film divided critics and fans, it featured Astro Boy facing off against a massive, overwhelmingly powerful robot known as the Peacekeeper. It’s a hell of a fight that fits in perfectly with Astro Boy’s role as a hero.

The Iron Giant was tall but also had a lot of powers and fantastic skills at its disposal. That included the amazing ability to reconstitute his body and rebuild it from the remaining scraps.

2 Gipsy Danger Killed A Lot of Kaiju

The Pacific Rim franchise has been built on basic premise of gigantic mechs, aka jaegers, being operated by human pilots fighting massive kaiju from another dimension. The first Guillermo del Toro directed film dropped in 2013, and the story has been building ever since.

While there are several mechs in the franchise, the main jaeger in the first film is Gipsy Danger. It took down nine kaiju in it’s career, five of them completely on its own. That is an impressive feat to say the least.

1 Was Built To Fight The King Of All Monsters

When dealing with a gigantic rampaging lizard monster, sometimes the only logical recourse is to build an equally gigantic robotic doppelganger to fight it. That’s where Mechagodzilla comes in.

While it has been occasionally depicted as an extradimensional creature, it’s more commonly shown to be a human construct. Armed to the teeth, Mechagodzilla has almost always given Godzilla a run for his money in the power department.
