10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Alola Region

Generation VII of Pokémon introduced the world to the Alola region. The Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon games gave the series a multitude of new Pokémon, and while some of them garnered immediate support, others were not as popular. Many fans dislike specific creatures, and that has forced these Pokémon into the background.

This lack of recognition could be for many reasons, such as design, perceived strength, etc. Despite this, many of these undervalued Pokémon have a lot to offer the franchise, and they should not fade into obscurity. Certain of these Pokémon from the Alola region have small but loyal fanbases, and this is with good reason.

Comfey

10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Alola Region

Although it is often dismissed as too weak, Comfey’s stats are not atrocious, even if it ranks at the lower end compared to every fully evolved Fairy-type Pokémon. Its bulk is not great, but as a pure Fairy-type, it only has two type weaknesses, which helps it defensively. It is also fairly capable in double battles, contributing as a healer.

Its signature ability, Triage, prioritizes healing moves, which can be hugely beneficial if ally Pokémon are also on the field. It will rarely last an extensive amount of time in battle, but it is more capable than many players give it credit for.

Crabominable

10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Alola Region

Crabominable is best known for its design, although players do not always reference it in a positive light. Crabominable’s aesthetics, while necessary for its concept, unnerve some people. Despite this, the Pokémon has a few features going for it. This includes its dual-typing of Fighting/Ice, which no other Pocket Monster currently has.

Along with this, while its base stats are not exceptional, Crabominable’s Attack stat is very high, meaning that if it can strike once, it can devastate opponents. Its defensive stats are lacking, but with its offensive potential, it is actually quite capable.

Dhelmise

10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Alola Region

It may be one of the best dual-type Ghost Pokémon, but Dhelmise is not as well known as it should be. The Ghost/Grass-type has the signature ability Steelworker, which boosts its Steel-type attacks. This essentially gives Dhelmise a Same Type Attack Bonus on three different types.

Combined with Dhelmise’s great Attack stat, it becomes offensively terrifying. Some fans are aware of its power, but when it comes to the general public, most people sweep it to the side without understanding its full potential.

Ribombee

10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Alola Region

Though it is sometimes brushed off as another unimpressive Bug-type, Ribombee can do well in battle. While its defensive stats and HP are lackluster, its Speed lets it move faster than a large number of enemies, and its Special Attack lets it capitalize fairly well.

If it cannot take opponents out in one hit, it can be in trouble, though. However, with the Shield Dust ability, Ribombee is not affected by additional effects of damaging moves, which can be very helpful. It is not the best Bug or Fairy Pokémon, but it is stronger than many players realize.

Pyukumuku

10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Alola Region

Another seemingly unimpressive Pokémon, certain features of Pyukumuku can be underwhelming. For one, it has the lowest base Speed stat in all of Pokémon, along with Shuckle and Munchlax. As such, it is essentially guaranteed to never move first, but it has high defensive stats that help it to take damage well.

Also, its signature ability, Innards Out, deals damage to opponents when they knock it out. This concept is fascinating, and while Pyukumuku is not exceptional, it should receive more attention.

Type: Null

10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Alola Region

Silvally, Type: Null’s evolution, often overshadows its pre-evolution, partially because it is a Pokémon with some of the most alternate forms in the series. Despite being the first-stage evolution, Type: Null has stats that are similar to those of Silvally, with the only difference being Type: Null’s lower Speed.

While it is not naturally as strong as its evolution, given an Eviolite, which boosts defensive stats significantly, Type: Null can sometimes be even better than Silvally. As a Normal-type, it can be limited in battle, but players frequently disregard Type: Null, an action that is often unjustified.

Bruxish

10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Alola Region

Bruxish is consistently dismissed for its unsettling appearance. Though many players ignore it, this does not make it incapable in battle. While its stats are not as impressive as those of some of the stronger Pokémon in the region, it has reasonable Speed and Attack stats. In addition, the Strong Jaw ability boosts the power of biting moves, which helps Bruxish when it uses attacks like Crunch or Psychic Fangs.

Its other ability option, Dazzling, prevents foes from using priority moves. It may not be exceptional, but Bruxish should not be dismissed solely because of its design.

Oricorio

10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Alola Region

While Oricorio is not widely disliked, it is simply lesser known than many other Alola Pokémon. It has a fascinating gimmick, though. Using different colors of Nectar players find throughout the region, Oricorio can change forms. While it always keeps its secondary Flying-type, its primary type changes between Fire, Electric, Psychic, and Ghost.

Its stats leave a bit to be desired, but it is fast enough to out-speed a good portion of opponents and has a high enough Special Attack to do decent damage. Hopefully, Oricorio will be in a future game and gain more recognition.

Togedemaru

10 Most Underrated Pokémon From The Alola Region

Togedemaru certainly has its fans, but not nearly the number it deserves. Not only is it one of the cutest Electric-type Pokémon, but its Electric/Steel typing also helps it immensely. It has eleven resistances, which help to make up for its poor HP and defensive stats.

In addition, it is fairly fast and can deal decent damage using its Attack stat. It also has a few useful abilities, including Iron Barbs, which deals damage to opponents who make physical contact with Togedemaru. It may be cute, but it can be viable in battle, too.

Komala

As with many other underrated Pokémon from Alola, some players underestimate Komala’s strength. As docile as it may appear, the Pocket Monster can be deceptively strong. It may be a pure Normal-type, but even so, it can do a fair amount of damage using its capable Attack stat. Its Special Defense is also reasonable, though its Defense is not as high.

Because of Komala’s signature ability, Comatose, opponents cannot affect it with status conditions like Poison or Paralysis. It is adorable and may seem harmless, but Komala can be a worthy combatant if enemies are not prepared.
