Set in the 1970s The Nice Guys is a funny and stylish film that has a lot of similarities to Lethal Weapon. It’s about a detective and a private investigator who investigate the death of an adult film actress and the case of a missing girl. While the film can get quite violent, it’s also very entertaining; the growing friendship between Gosling and Crowe’s Nice Guys characters is really fun to see.
7 The Hard Way (1991)
The Hard Way stars Michael J Fox as a famous actor who teams up with a real police officer in order to study his mannerisms for a role that he is about to play. Naturally, the two don’t like each other but they have to work on a case together whilst also dealing with being in each other’s company constantly.
It’s a stereotypical early 90s buddy cop movie that any Brooklyn Nine-Nine fan would thoroughly enjoy.
6 22 Jump Street (2014)
The novelty of 22 Jump Street is that it’s extremely similar to its predecessor but has a much bigger budget, something which is frequently. This time, instead of heading to high school, Schmidt and Jenko go to college to investigate the use of drugs and to find the dealer. It’s a great sequel that is even funnier than 21 Jump Street, which is hard to do.

Hot Fuzz is a more obscure film in terms of likening it to Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It’s about a London police officer who gets transferred to a small town that has a lot of big secrets. The plot is so ridiculous that it actually works and there is a lot of laughs out loud moments throughout. Hot Fuzz is an unconventional cop film but it’s guaranteed to make everyone laugh.
3 The Heat (2013)
The Heat is about an FBI agent who has to team up with a Boston cop. The two have extremely different personalities and it makes for a funny dynamic. Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy’s characters could not be more different and they do a really good job of showing that contrast.
It’s a cool female-led take on the genre and fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine could definitely imagine Rosa and Amy in their own movie after seeing this.

The film was a huge part of Murphey’s rise to fame and it was very successful upon its release. It also encapsulates the 80s movie style perfectly.

Die Hard 2 is just as iconic as the first film. This time, John McClane’s troubles lie at an airport at Christmas time. A team of terrorists threatens to destroy an airport and people’s only hope is that John McClane will find a way to stop them. Both Die Hard and Die Hard 2 to are also considered Christmas movies, and while the Die Hard series seems to be never-ending but Die Hard and Die Hard 2 is when the series is at its best.
