10 Movies To Watch To Get Excited For Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody
The release date for Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody is nearing, and to help fans get even more excited, here’s a list of great movies that will do the trick.

Bob Odenkirk is capable of a lot of things, whether it’s killing it during a stand-up comedy set or holding his own against high-caliber actors in one of the greatest crime dramas of all time, Breaking Bad. But nobody ever thought of him as an action hero.
However, when audiences were first graced by the Nobody trailer, which featured the 58-year-old kicking ass as Hutch Mansell, the movie was thrust onto everybody’s radar and was put on every cinephile’s must-watch list. And as the release date for the movie is nearing and anticipation is building, it’s hard to imagine viewers getting anymore excited, but these movies will do the trick.
10 Nebraska (2013)
With Nobody being such a stylish-looking movie, from the choice of lenses that have been used to the movement of the camera, much thought put into every frame. And that’s no different from Nebraska, though it’s a completely different movie.
Odenkirk has a starring role in Nebraska, one of the best Alexander Payne movies, and the film is beautifully rendered in black and white as a father and son take a road trip across the state. Not only is it stylish, but it’s the first time audiences saw Odenkirk’s dramatic acting outside of his character of Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad.
9 The Equalizer (2014)
Just like Nobody, The Equalizer is about a badass who reluctantly returns to a dark profession he retired from years before. Robert McCall busts heads and spends two hours roaming around murdering any Russian in sight as he protects a teenage prostitute from the Russian mob.
Given the plot, not only is The Equalizer similar to Nobody as the violence in the movie is so flashy, but it’s also like a full-throttle version of Taxi Driver. Though it didn’t score well amongst critics, general audiences loved the movie.
8 Collateral (2004)
With Nobody following Hutch, who claims to be a former “auditor,” which is essentially a hitman, he’ll be joining the elite ranks of Vincent, one of the most sadistic hired guns in movies.
However, unlike Hutch, who is being hunted down, Vincent is the one who is doing the hunting, and it’s actually one of the most unique concepts for a hitman movie. Vincent hires a cabby to drive him from one target to the next so he can roam around untraced, and just like Nobody, Collateral is visually stunning.
7 Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021)
Actors only have so much control over what happens on movie sets, and they have even less control over what footage gets used and what gets left on the cutting room floor.
And though Connie Nielsen, who plays Hutch’s wife in Nobody, featured in the original version of The Justice League in 2017, she has much more screen time in the newly released Zack Snyder’s Justice League. For those who haven’t seen it yet, it’s worth watching the new Justice League for Nielsen’s role as Queen Hippolyta, as the actress brings her all to every role.
6 Dolemite Is My Name (2019)
Though most of Odenkirk’s roles are found on television, whether it’s as the goofy criminal lawyer Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, or guest starring in sitcoms like Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, he has featured in a ton of movies, even if they are smaller roles.
One of his most recent performances is as Lawrence Woolner in Dolemite Is My Name, one of Eddie Murphy’s best movies. The movie is about the real-life actor Rudy Ray Moore and the blaxploitation movies he made with the character of Dolemite, and in it, Odenkirk plays Woolner, the real-life movie producer who worked closely with Moore.
5 Back To The Future (1985)
As if anybody needs an excuse to throw on one of the most rewatchable movies of the 1980s, Christopher Lloyd, who famously plays Doc in Back To The Future, plays David Mansell, Hutch’s father in Nobody.
Though the character of Doc is generally bouncing off the walls with his maddeningly absurd ideas, Lloyd plays a much more frail character in Nobody, but his acting is still on top form, and there’s no better movie to watch to get excited about Lloyd’s return than the film in which he coined so many iconic one-liners.
4 Leon: The Professional (1994)
As it’s looking like Bob Odenkirk’s character of Hutch will be added to the hitman movie hall of fame fairly soon, there are few other characters from the history of cinema who can measure up to the coolness and abilities Hutch seems to have.
However, Leon: The Professional features one of the greatest cinema assassins ever, as his trench coat, hat, and shades have become iconic. The titular character has many tricks up his sleeve, but there’s a side to him that is rarely seen in hitman movies, as it shows how much of an impact Leon’s career has had on him as a person. It’s one of the most introspective but entertaining depictions of an assassin ever made.
3 Incredibles 2 (2018)
Though they’re both essentially action movies, Incredibles 2 couldn’t be further on the action spectrum from Nobody, as the former is an animated movie aimed at kids and the latter is one big bloody massacre. However, not only does the animated sequel feature Bob Odenkirk in a main role, but it also has some of the most spectacular action scenes of the past decade.
Directed by Brad Bird, who is known for directing exquisite, well-crafted action sequences, the movie is filled to the brim with moments that aren’t actually too dissimilar to that of Nobody, even if it is animated and bloodless.
2 Atomic Blonde (2017)
Not only is Atomic Blonde an incredible action movie about Lorraine, a deadly assassin, but it’s also directed by the producer of Nobody, David Leitch. It’s obvious the two movies are connected from the beginning, as the fighting sequences are very similar between them.
Atomic Blonde is filled to the brim with flashy violence that’s extremely well choreographed, and it’s possibly more grotesque than Nobody, as a man chokes to death as Lorraine swings down several floors of a building from a rope she had wrapped around his neck.
1 The John Wick Series
The comparisons between Nobody and the John Wick series are unavoidable. Not only is the tone, the theme, and the action almost identical to that of the Keanu Reeves’ led series, but Nobody was also written by Derek Kolstad, the creator of John Wick. This has prompted tons of theories about how the two series share the same universe.
The action that takes place in John Wick and its exceptional style of gun-fu, which is a type of martial arts that uses a combination of guns and Kung-fu, is clearly the biggest inspiration for Nobody. But both movies seemingly have the same narrative beats too, as they both feature home invasions, a former assassin coming out of retirement, and both protagonists going up against the Russian mob.
