The Office is widely regarded as one of the best comedies of the 21st century, popular for its fusion of cringe comedy and warm heart. At the heart of The Office is Steve Carell’s Michael Scott, as everything seemed to fall apart upon his departure. That said, each actor is excellent in their respective roles, and each have done equally amazing work on other shows and movies.

While no one is quite as popular as Steve Carell, they have all shared in some notable and unique movies that are well worth watching.

10 Foxcatcher (2014)

Steve Carell has starred in a wide variety of excellent roles, both serious and comedic. But it’s his performance in Foxcatcher that proved truly magnetic. A literally unrecognizable Carell plays murderer John du Pont and received an Oscar nomination for his efforts. du Pont was a very rich man who grew interested in wrestling and started his own facility on Foxcatcher Farm. He eventually became embroiled with Olympic wrestlers Mark and Dave Schultz and murdered the latter in the third degree. He was convicted and later died in prison.

9 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi (2016)

John Krasinski’s work in A Quiet Place is obviously terrific, but he also starred in a criminally underappreciated action film in 2016 called 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi. The movie was directed by Michael Bay and is based on the nonfiction book 13 Hours, which tells the true story of a terrorist attack against an American compound in Libya. Krasinski stars as Jack Silva, a former SEAL and private military contractor tasked with defending a CIA outpost. Most critics praised Bay’s more reserved directorial work and considered it a solid action film.

8 The Meg (2018)

Rainn Wilson’s early filmography is filled with mediocre comedies, including a starring role in The Rocker. Perhaps his best movie is The Meg, which grossed a very respectable $530 million throughout the summer of 2018. The Meg is largely styled in the likes of campy B-movies, and it concerns the discovery and subsequent rampage of a 75-foot-long Megalodon. Wilson plays billionaire Jack Morris, who personally financed the underwater research facility that discovers the massive shark.

7 Slither (2006)

James Gunn’s Slither is a wonderful and disgusting little movie about an alien invasion. An alien parasite lands in a small South Carolina town and begins infecting the local populace, turning them into zombies and grotesque alien creatures.

Jenna Fischer, who was married to director James Gunn at the time, makes an appearance as Shelby Cunningham. The role is quite small, but it proved one of her earliest on the big screen, and that is certainly worth celebrating.

6 The Founder (2016)

B.J. Novak, who both stars in and writes for The Office, also appeared in 2016’s The Founder. Much like The Social Network, this movie was far better than audiences were expecting, considering its subject matter. It stars a fantastic Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc, the man who expanded McDonald’s into a global franchise. Both Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch star as the McDonald brothers, Richard and Maurice. B.J. Novak appears as Harry J. Sonneborn, the first president of McDonald’s Corporation. The movie earned a surprising amount of acclaim for its performances, writing, and nuanced historical story.

5 Jeff, Who Lives At Home (2011)

Ed Helms is widely known for his work in The Hangover trilogy, but his best personal work comes (arguably, of course) in 2011’s Jeff, Who Lives at Home. The comedy drama was written and directed by brothers Jay and Mark Duplass and star Jason Siegel and Ed Helms in the starring roles. Siegel stars as an unemployed stoner who lives in his mother’s basement. He meets up with his more successful but wickedly unhappy brother Pat, played by Helms. Pat is convinced that his wife is having an affair, and the two track her throughout the day to prove Pat correct.

4 Brightburn (2019)

Of everyone to get a starring role in a major Hollywood movie, fans never expected it to be Roy. In 2019, David Denman starred opposite Elizabeth Banks in Brightburn, a horror film about a psychotic and murderous superhero in the form of a child.

The movie essentially works on the premise “What if Superman grew up to be evil?”, and while it doesn’t quite reach its full potential, Brightburn is nevertheless a very respectable, freaky, and disgusting superhero outing. Denman plays Kyle Breyer, the superhero child’s adoptive father.

3 Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017)

Leslie David Baker, who wonderfully portrays Stanley throughout The Office, hasn’t appeared in many movies. However, he has voiced a character in Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, and it was absolutely glorious. The movie is based on Dav Pilkey’s series of children’s novels and earned very solid reviews for its beautiful animation, vocal performances, and legitimately funny humor (despite its intentionally juvenile title). Baker does the voice of Officer McPiggly.

2 Four Christmases (2008)

Brian Baumgartner gave one of the best performances in The Office by playing Dunder Mifflin’s resident dopey accountant, Kevin Malone. Baumgartner was simply excellent in the role, even altering his voice to make Kevin sound slower and more boring. Baumgartner makes a brief appearance in the 2008 Christmas film Four Christmases, which stars Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon as a selfish couple who are forced to do four individual Christmases with their divorced parents. It’s no Home Alone, but it’s a solid Christmas movie nonetheless.

1 Bad Teacher (2011)

Phyllis Smith was one of a few Office actors who lent their name to their character, playing Phyllis Lapin (the others being Angela Kinsey, Oscar Nunez, Clark Duke, and Creed Bratton). In 2011, Smith landed her first major role in a motion picture, starring as Lynn Davies opposite Cameron Diaz in Bad Teacher. The movie earned mixed reviews from critics, although most commended the lead performance from Cameron Diaz and the incredible chemistry she shared with the rest of the cast. That includes Phyllis Smith.
