The holiday season is always a busy time for the box office. People even rush to the theaters on Christmas day to catch the releases of highly anticipated movies of all different genres.

Although not every movie that comes out during the season is holiday-themed, viewers wanting something new to watch that will put them in the holiday spirit will be thrilled to know that there are quite a few amazing movies set to release in the coming weeks.

Love Hard (2021)

•Available On Netflix On November 5th

Netflix’s Holidate with Emma Roberts was a huge success last year, and this season they’re set to release another round of cozy holiday movies for fans to stream. Love Hard premiered early to kick off the holidays, and tells the all-too-relatable woes of online dating today.

Natalie, an L.A.-based writer, flies to the East Coast to meet who she thinks is her dream come true. However, she finds out that she was catfished. There’s a silver lining, though, as he agrees to set her up with the guy in the pictures if she pretends to be his girlfriend for the holidays. It’s Catfish if it was a Christmas special and a fun twist on the “they pretend they’re dating” plot device.

The Princess Switch 3: Romancing The Star (2021) on Netflix

The fan-favorite movies about twins (starring Vanessa Hudgens as multiple characters) is back for its third installation. The Hallmark-esque romantic comedy is a big hit for anyone looking for a cute and fun winter flick. When viewers left Margaret and Stacy, Margaret’s cousin, Fiona, had tried to steal the crown by impersonating Margaret.

For The Princess Switch 3, the two actually team up with Fiona to uncover the whereabouts of a stolen treasure. The films always find a way to be innovative about the “switching” aspect and it never gets stale, which is refreshing as far as sequels go. Fans are sure to enjoy a heist from the three Hudgenses.

Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)

Lovers of classic ’90s kid Christmas movies like Home Alone are in for a treat with Disney’s release of Home Sweet Home Alone. Although there have been five other movies in the beloved series, there hasn’t been a new one since 2012.

This year’s film features the same kid-fueled antics as its predecessors, but with a Brit in the troublemaker lead role. When a family’s flight to Toyko is split up, Max is left behind in the chaos and must defend the home from a couple trying to steal a family heirloom. The tale is chock-full of nostalgia, and it’s always entertaining to see the innovative booby traps the writers can come up with.

Silent Night (2021)

For some, the cheeriness of romantic comedies and feel-good movies around the holidays can get a bit boring, and some intrigue and excitement are desired instead. There have been many holiday-themed horror and suspense movies throughout the years, and December 3rd will see the release of Silent Night, starring Keira Knightley and Lily-Rose Depp.

Apocalypse is in the air for this family Christmas dinner with Nell and Simon’s immediate and extended family. Deadly gases are set to destroy the world outside, and the government has issued suicide pills for those who would like a more peaceful exit than suffocating on toxic fumes. They work hard to make it the best party ever since it will be everyone’s last.

A Jenkins Family Christmas (2021)

Two sisters are dealing with the loss of their father and want to continue his family traditions in an effort to keep his spirit alive. However, they often butt heads, and things can quickly devolve into an argument. They have to work together, though, when a half-sister they didn’t know they had suddenly appears.

Family Christmas dramas that feature dysfunction can be some of the most relatable and moving movies during the season. With so many families experiencing loss in the recent past, the messages in A Jenkins Family Christmas ring even more true. Not to mention that it keeps audiences on their toes with the increasingly complicated web of family turmoil.

A Boy Called Christmas (2021)

The traditional stories of Christmas have been told many times in different ways throughout the centuries that the holiday has been celebrated. A Boy Called Christmas, however, features the story of Father Christmas in his more traditional English folklore context.

The film is based on a screenplay and will feature a young boy named Nikolas, who ventures out into the wintery forest to find his father in a mythical city of elves. He has a reindeer, Blitzen, to accompany him, as well as a loyal pet mouse named Mika.

Holiday In Santa Fe (2021) on Lifetime

Although Lifetime comes out with some ridiculous holiday movies, they also release some great ones that feature different cultures during the holidays. Holiday in Santa Fe, specifically, follows greeting card executive Tony as he travels to Santa Fe with the intention of acquiring a family-owned ornament shop that uses traditional Mexican Christmas decor as inspiration for their products.

In addition to showcasing Mexican traditions and culture, this Lifetime movie also features a Latinx-studded cast, with powerhouses like Mario Lopez and Shadowhunters’ Emeraude Toubia.

8-Bit Christmas (2021)

Nostalgia hits again for fans of anything and everything ’80s. In a plot that echoes the holiday classic Jingle All The Way, a young boy named John is on the hunt for a Nintendo amid the Christmas shopping chaos.

The kooky antics of fervent shoppers mixed with the bright colors and music of the 1980s ensure that this movie will be tons of fun for viewers. Going to a mall or department store can be a hectic but well-loved memory for people, and the hunt for the perfect gift is a thrilling experience.

Black Friday (2021)

•Available In Theaters November 19th

Going out shopping on Black Friday can be horrifying, and for these unfortunate employees, it literally is. In another horror-themed holiday flick, Black Friday takes the high tension of holiday shopping and kicks it up several notches.

Instead of hordes of frantic shoppers climbing over the shelves of a Toys R Us-esque toy store, there are hordes of zombies combing through the aisle, and the store’s employees have to fight for their lives if they want to make it to Christmas.
