When thinking of pretty and popular female characters who are not very nice, The Plastics should come to mind; they were featured in an iconic movie that is appropriately titled Mean Girls, and they embodied that girl at school that everyone sort of looks up to and admires yet also greatly fears.

Over the years, there have been television shows that have put similar characters on display. They set trends with their fashion choices, date the hottest guys, have a gorgeous posse around them and dish out rude remarks and sarcastic, snobby comments in a very gifted yet terrifying way.

Since Katherine was a witch and since she looked just like Elena, she would pop up and cause trouble in The Vampire Diaries. Like a true antagonist, she loved setting fires, sitting back and watching everything go up in flames, and she would do anything to get her way.

She was also very attractive, cunning, and flirty (just ask the Salvatore brothers), which are common traits seen in these types.

As the president of the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority, Chanel Oberlin had *that* look; from the way she dressed and carried herself to the confident and bossy way she talked, she was respected and feared, all at once. And while Scream Queens showed her doing normal mean girl things, it also centered around murders that she was framed for, adding another level of fear and drama.

One of the main ways Chanel stands out from the others on this list is that she named her minions after herself, showing just how vain and conceited she was.

8 Kate From Lizzie McGuire

Back in the day, viewers got to see Hilary Duff star as Lizzie McGuire on the Disney Channel. This character had a family, best friends, a crush, and a frenemy at school: Kate Sanders; she and Lizzie were once friends, but after Kate started wearing a bra, she turned into a queen bee.

Deep down, these two liked each other, but there were plenty of scenes that featured Kate and her fellow cheerleaders being rude to and making fun of Lizzie, Miranda, and Gordo.

Before her disappearance, while she was hiding/lying to everyone and even when she returned, Ali used her wise ways and her looks to get what she wanted… even if it meant hurting the ones she cared about most.

5 Brenda From Beverly Hills, 90210

Some people are born mean girls, and others transform into these types, such as Brenda Walsh. At first, on Beverly Hills, 90210, she was a nice and normal girl from the Midwest.

After a little bit of time in Beverly Hills, though, she turned into someone who was rude, egotistical, and a bit frightening.

4 Cheryl From Riverdale

When Riverdale started, fans met Cheryl Blossom, another character from a well-off family. Her lifestyle, her beauty, and trouble at home has led her to think she is better than everyone else, and she seems to get a great amount of pleasure from intimidating others.

She has her moments when she tries to be kind, but she is too self-absorbed and too busy being the head cheerleader of the River Vixens.

3 Paige From Degrassi: The Next Generation

Another mean girl would be Paige Michalchuk from Degrassi: The Next Generation; like many others on this list, she was beautiful and popular, and that may have gone to her head, as she was not always nice to everyone.

As the story progressed, thankfully, Paige grew up and matured. While she wasn’t perfect, she did seem to outgrow her days of bullying.

After the success of the film Clueless, a TV show version aired. That being said, Cher, Dionne, and Amber belong here, as well. It is common for this sort of character to look a certain way and act a certain way, and these three definitely turned heads wherever they went.

People may still praise and recreate their legendary outfits and catchphrases, but let’s hope that not everyone copies all of their characteristics; they could be pretty mean!
