Teen dramas are always dramatic. It seems like every episode of these shows has a new and intense storyline or mystery that the main characters find themselves tangled up in. Sometimes, these storylines can be pretty off-the-wall and ridiculous, but that’s part of the appeal of these shows and why we keep coming back to watch them each week.

When it comes to teen dramas, Riverdale is among the most popular ones on the air right now. This show is a dark, live-action adaption of the Archie comics and features all the same characters from that series in the fictional town of Riverdale. The show has a ton of drama between the characters and the other people living in Riverdale and there’s always a major plot twist to surprise us with each episode. But, anyone who has watched Riverdale will know that some of the storylines on the show are just a little strange.

10 The Cheerleaders’ Funeral Outfits

Cheryl is the head of the River Vixens, the cheer squad at the high school in the town they live in. She’s totally stylish and often seen wearing her cheerleading uniform. In season one, the outfit that she wore to her brother’s funeral seemed a little odd, but she really took the strange funeral attire to the next level when she attended Midge’s funeral.

Instead of wearing their classic blue, white, and yellow cheerleading uniforms, the River Vixens decided to step it up a notch and wore a special all-black version of their uniforms to the funeral. Of course, it just wouldn’t be Riverdale if she showed up in a plain black dress.

9 All The Musical Episodes

Riverdale started the show with a musical group: Josie and the Pussycats. As the series went on, this group became less and less of a focus of the series until they ultimately left the show. But, Riverdale’s music hasn’t completely left just because Josie joined the cast of Katy Keene.

Riverdale has given us musical episodes based on Heathers and Carrie. These musical episodes definitely keep the dark and edgy spirit of Riverdale with a melodic twist, but it’s hard to deny that they’re a little unusual. Watching Cheryl and Toni battle it out during Candy Store was fun, but the musical performances still feel a little out of place each time.

8 Cheryl Giving Josie A Pig Heart

Season two of Riverdale had a lot going on, but one of the biggest plot points involved the fact that Josie had a major stalker. This stalker was getting more and more violent as time went on, and Cheryl was constantly teasing Josie about it and referencing her “secret admirer.”

At one point, Josie even received a pretty terrifying gift: a drawing of her with a threatening message written on it and a pig heart. As it turned out, the stalker that was after Josie was Cheryl, and she was trying to frame Chuck Clayton, a student that had asked Josie on a date, in order to push him away from Josie.

7 Jingle Jangle

Jingle Jangle is a reference to a song that was made for the Archie comics back in the 1960s, but it’s also the name of a drug in Riverdale that takes the teen characters by storm during the second season of the series. Considering the first season was all about the Blossom’s illicit drug trafficking business, this isn’t exactly a far reach for the series.

But, the fact that Riverdale has had drugs featured as a point of conflict in the past and the fact that it’s a retro Archie reference doesn’t mean that the name isn’t pretty hilarious. And to make it even sillier, Jingle Jangle’s main distributor always goes by the name The Sugarman, a name that Penelope Blossom used to scare Jason and Cheryl when they were kids.

6 Veronica Opening La Bonne Nuit

How exactly do business licenses work in the town of Riverdale? This is something that many fans were asking themselves starting in the third season. After gaining control of Pop’s, Veronica opened her very own nightclub in the basement. She learned that the basement was once a speakeasy and she decided to open a non-alcoholic one there with all the vintage glamour of an old movie.

La Bonne Nuit has undergone some changes since Veronica first opened it, including the fact that it’s no longer exclusively serving mocktails and is now basically a nightclub. This makes the logistics of the place and Veronica owning it even more confusing.

5 Polly Getting Pregnant… By Her Cousin

During the first season of Riverdale, many people were concerned about the nature of Jason and Cheryl’s relationship. The two of them were twins, yes, but they seemed like they might have been a little too close. Luckily, the relationship between the two of them became more clear as we learned more and more about the Blossom family history and drama.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of Riverdale’s complicated relationship with families and romance. In the first season of the show, it was revealed that Betty’s sister, Polly, was pregnant and that Jason Blossom was the father. Unfortunately, things got really weird when it was also revealed that they’re distant cousins.

4 Betty’s “Mad World” Pole Dance

With everything that goes down on Riverdale, it can be tough to remember that the characters are high school students and just teenagers. This was something that it really seemed like the writers forgot when Betty took a trip to the Whyte Wyrn.

While at the Whyte Wyrn, Betty took to the stage and did a pole dance to the song Mad World in order to join the Southside Serpents and prove that she was worthy of being one of them. Not only was it awkward because Betty is a high schooler, but that song is not one to dance like that to.

3 Jughead’s “I’m A Weirdo” Speech

Jughead’s speech about being a weirdo who doesn’t fit in is easily one of the most recognizable scenes from Riverdale for someone that doesn’t watch the show. The speech he gave went viral for how unusual it was and was mocked heavily all over the Internet.

While the speech wasn’t untrue – Jughead is weird and he does always wear his hat – it was definitely one of the most unusual scenes in the series. The strangest part about it is the way that the speech made it sound like Jughead has no choice in wearing his hat. It’s an iconic part of Jughead’s character design, hearing him talk about it as though he doesn’t choose to put it on each morning made the speech strange.

2 Cheryl Bribing Archie To Date Her

Being a Blossom must be tough. Seriously, that family has so much drama and Cheryl is constantly forced to look perfect and act like everything in her life is going wonderfully, even when it might not be.

In the first season, she took some extreme measures to make sure that the façade she puts on in her life was completely spotless. Part of this involved making sure that she always had a date to family events that she had to go to and she chose Archie. In order to ensure that he would happily accompany her to all of them, Cheryl basically bribed him with a guitar and lessons. Didn’t anyone tell Cheryl she can’t buy love?

1 Archie Forming The Red Circle

Archie is the main character of Riverdale, but that doesn’t mean that all his storylines or every idea that he has are great. For example, the time in season two when he formed the Red Circle.

Along with the shirtless, masked members of the gang that he had formed, Archie made a video that was meant to be threatening and inform the Black Hood that they were out there and ready to fight. Unfortunately, it wasn’t that threatening, and it just got Archie in more trouble than he solved.
