10 Of The Worst Relatives In Star Wars

Family is a huge running theme in the entire Star Wars franchise, but who are the worst relatives and family members in the galaxy?

One of the most important themes prominent throughout all of Star Wars is family. Mostly this relates to found family, the family that does not end in blood, but that’s not always the case. There are many great family members in Star Wars, from Leia’s adoptive parents to most of the clones. But, not all of the relatives in the franchise are so great.

Whether they go as far as to betray their blood or they simply do not treat them as well as they could, many relatives in Star Wars are pretty terrible to their family, even if the characters themselves are fantastic.

10 Owen Lars

Owen Lars is perhaps the harshest entry on the list. He obviously loved Luke and Beru and worked on his father’s moisture farm keeping on the Lars name.

However, Owen’s paranoia and fear of what Luke could become led him to try and trap Luke on Tatooine despite how unhappy it made him, and on top of that, his constant attacks on Obi-Wan’s character despite all the help Kenobi was doing not only for Owen, but his farm and for the protection of Luke.

9 Luke Skywalker

Speaking of Luke, it’s not like he was the most likable family member ever either, not to his immediate family throughout the original trilogy or the family of the next generation in the sequels.

Overall, he was a great brother to Leia, but the kiss and his weird crush were very questionable. The real weakness of Luke as a relative comes from his treatment of Ben, though. He never attempted to kill him, but his moment of weakness was enough to drive Ben to the dark side and into the moniker of Kylo Ren.

8 Darth Maul

Maul and Savage Opress did not get to be brothers for very long. When Savage did meet his end at the hands of Darth Sidious, Maul was upset; before then, though, he was far less than a decent brother.

He treated his brother as more of an apprentice, a Sith apprentice, removing any form of empathy or love between the two. Savage seemed to be simply a way to further Maul’s goals of power in the Galaxy and revenge against Kenobi.

7 The Father

The Clone Wars had some fantastic and creative arcs, one of which being the Mortis arc, a fascinating exploration of not only the Force but Anakin’s status as the chosen one. It also introduced fans to some of the most powerful beings in the Galaxy, the ones.

The father was the one in the middle, the balance between his son and daughter. In luring Anakin to Mortis, he set in motion the events that led to his Son’s over-ambition and his daughter’s death. On top of that, as a being that kind of transcends the physical Galaxy, while he loved his children, there definitely seemed to be an absence of emotion there.

6 The Son

However bad he arguably was, though, he was not as bad of a relative as the Son was. The Son was the embodiment of the dark side of the Force, the opposite of the Daughter who represented the light before her death.

That death came at the hands of the Son, which immediately earns his place on this list, especially given he was fighting with her not long before accidentally killing her. His treatment of the Father solidifies his spot; calling someone selfish for not dying quick enough would be a harsh thing to say to anyone, never mind your own family.

5 Bo-Katan Kryze

Another character to come out of the beloved show, an utterly phenomenal one at that, was Bo-Katan Kryze, who has now appeared in and been fantastic in both other Star Wars TV shows.

Given how adored she is by audiences, though, it is easy to forget how much of an awful person and sister she was in The Clone Wars. As a high-ranking member of Death Watch, she not only helped cause the death of her sister by helping Maul rule the planet, but she made various attempts to undermine and overthrow her sister’s rule as Duchess of Mandalore before that.

4 Ziro The Hutt

Sticking again with The Clone Wars, although this time with a far less popular character, Ziro Desilijic Tiure is the worst of a bad bunch when it comes to the Hutt crime family.

Not only did Ziro hold in his possession the Hutt council records which he used to threaten his family (since they contained their criminal dealings), but he also conspired with Count Dooku to capture Jabba’s son Rotta in a plot to take over his nephew’s role as leader of their clan.

3 Darth Vader

Perhaps the character that immediately jumps to mind for most fans when talking about bad family members is also arguably the greatest character in the Star Wars franchise, Darth Vader.

Starting with Padmé, he nearly choked her to death on Mustafar out of his uncontrollable rage. Fast forward two decades later, and he is hunting his son and daughter through the Galaxy. He never kills them, but he nearly does, and he tries to recruit Luke to the Dark Side while dueling him. His son was obviously the catalyst of his redemption, but he still will not be winning any father of the franchise awards soon.

2 Kylo Ren

The other obvious choice for the worst relative in Star Wars and the brattiest emo child goes to Kylo Ren, AKA Ben Solo, who, while redeemed like Vader in the end, went a step further with his family than his grandfather ever could.

Kylo obviously had this deep connection to his mother which prevented him from killing her, but he still helped in making sure she nearly died when she was blasted into space in The Last Jedi during his attack of the Resistance ship. There is then his deep-running hatred of his uncle and attempted killing of him on Crait – or at least his projection. And of course, the main reason Kylo falls above Vader is that he actually killed his blood, murdering his father Han Solo on Starkiller Base.

1 Darth Sidious

Before The Rise of Skywalker, the list would end with Kylo Ren. Given all the new information from that movie and its novel, though, it is clear Sidious belongs at the number one spot.

Right off the bat, the hunting and attempted killing of his granddaughter cannot be ignored. However, his son presents the major issue. While a clone, his son is still his son, who Palpatine had killed for being a ‘failed experiment.’ As of now, fans do not know how many other offspring Sidious had eliminated due to them not living up to his vision, but Rey’s father surely was not the only one.
