10 Pokémon That Evolve While Holding An Item

Pokémon Sword and Shield continue to be among the most popular Nintendo Switch titles this year, especially with the recent release of the Isle of Armor DLC, the first of the two-part expansion pass content. Though not all of the previous Pokémon have been added to this latest installment yet, players still have more than enough to keep themselves occupied for the time being as they hurry to complete their Pokédexes while adventuring.

To complete your Pokédex, you’ll need to evolve a lot of Pokémon and some of them take more than just reaching a certain level. A lot of Pokémon have specific requirements, such as evolving when traded, when given an item, when friendship reaches a certain point, or when holding an item.

10 Milcery

The Milcery was one of the new Pokémon added with the release of Sword and Shield and quickly became a fan favorite as it has multiple variants when it comes to its evolved form. Milcery has to be holding an item to evolve, a certain type of sweet to be specific, and then players spin on the spot to cause it to evolve.

There are five sweets in total and the type of Alcremie that Milcery evolves into depends on the sweet, the spin direction, the duration of the spin, as well as the time of day it is evolved.

9 Spritzee

Spritzee was added in generation six, making its debut in Pokémon X and Y. These titles were the first time the Fairy-type was introduced as well, not only re-typing some of the older Pokémon who had previously been another type, but also introducing new Fairy-types such as Spritzee.

Spritzee evolves into Aromatisse when it is traded holding the Sachet item. In Sword and Shield, a Sachet can be obtained either by spending 10 BP in Hammerlocke or as a random reward from a Battle Café match.

8 Dusclops

Porygon was one of the original 151 Pokémon from the Kanto region and it didn’t receive any further evolutions until generation two when Porygon2 was added. This Normal-type Pokémon evolves when it is traded while holding the Upgrade item.

As Porygon was only recently added to Sword and Shield as part of the Isle of Armor content, its Upgrade item is also available from the same area. It can be found in the Training Lowlands once, or you can obtain more by using the Cram-o-Matic and adding the following items: Yellow Apricorn, Big Nugget, Big Mushroom, and Star Piece.

One of these Dubious Disc items can be found in the Workout Sea area, while more can also be obtained via the Cram-o-Matic by adding the following items: Pecha Berry and 3 x Comet Shards.
