This year has seen the endings of several popular manga series like Demon Slayer and Seven Deadly Sins. Both series’ endings were announced around a month before their conclusions. It is a common trend within the Manga industry for a series’ conclusion to be announced shortly before it concludes, due to a couple of factors relating to how the Manga series is released. However, some series have given fans the news that a series is ending months or years ahead.

While some Manga series wait till the series is almost over to make an announcement, some series announced their conclusions beforehand.

10 Ōoku: The Inner Chambers

Ōoku: The Inner Chambers imagines an alternate version of Japan’s Edo period where a mysterious disease had wiped a majority of Japan’s male population. While the series has not received any animated adaption, it has inspired two live-action movies and a TV series. The series is also notable for being the only Manga series to win the James Tiptree, Jr Award, an award for science fiction or fantasy works that explores gender in interesting ways.

The magazine Melody, where Ooku is serialized, announced back at the end of April 2020 that series would begin its final arc this June. Readers can expect this interesting work of alternative history to end sometime in the next year or so, due to the series tends to have short arcs.

9 Darwin’s Game

This Manga series is about an ordinary high school student who finds himself involved with a death game between individuals empowered by a cellphone app. While the series has been running since 2012, it has recently appeared on many people’s radar thanks to its recent anime adaption.

Despite the series gaining some newfound popularity due to its anime adaption, the series is nearing its conclusion. Shortly before Darwin’s Game’s anime premiered in January, it was announced that the series was entering its final arc. While it was not stated how long this arc would last, the series will conclude at some point in 2021.

8 Domestic Girlfriends

Domestic Girlfriends is a romantic drama about a real trainwreck of a romance. The series follows a love triangle between high schooler Natsuo and two sisters named Ruto and Hina that becomes very complicated when they end up becoming step-siblings. The series gained a following after both receiving an anime adaption last year and the series being a surprisingly thoughtful take on a very sleazy premise.

This series is one of the two entries on this list to have a clear end date announced. Last month, the series announced that that series’ final volume would be out this August.

7 We Never Learn

Weekly Shonen Jump is a magazine most well known for its action-focused lineup of Manga series, but the magazine also has many romantic comedies in its lineup. The most recent rom-com from Weekly Shonen Jump to become a major success is We Never Learn. The series was already popular during its initial serialization became even more popular thanks to a two season-long animated adaption last year.

Back in March, it was announced that the series would be entering its final arc. This announcement is quite interesting in that it also announced the series’ final arc would be told in a rather unique fashion. That uniqueness being that the final arc would show a bunch of parallel endings to the series that shows the main character ending up with a different love interest.

6 Hinamatsuri

Hinamastsuri is a Manga that follows the absurd adventures of three girls with psychic powers who have traveled from the future to present-day Japan. Each of the girls landed in unique circumstances with one, the main character Hina, ended up the adopted daughter of an ambitious Yakuza boss. The series is well regarded for having a strong ensemble cast and being surprisingly heartfelt at times. The series has also received a well-received anime adaption in 2018.

Hinamatsuri’s 18th volume, which came out last month, announced that the series next volume would be its final one. The announcement also said that the final volume will see a release date at some point this summer.

5 BEASTARS

The Manga series BEASTARS has recently seen a huge boost in popularity thanks to its animated adaption being recently released on Netflix. The series takes place in a high school populated by anthropomorphic animals that find its uneasy peace between carnivores and herbivores shook by a mysterious murder. The series follows the wolf Legosi as he seeks to prove his innocence of this murder.

While no clear end date has been announced, the manga’s author announced back in January that the series’s end was in sight. While this announcement is somewhat vague, it does seem to suggest that BEASTARS is nearing its conclusion and will conclude at some point next year.

4 Dr. Stone

Weekly Shonen Jump has seen a renaissance in recent years thanks to many of its new titles being either more cerebral or darker than the ones in the 2000s. One popular series resulting from this renaissance is Dr. Stone. The series follows teenage genius Senku as he rebuilds civilization 3000 years after every human was turned to stone.

While no announcement has been made about the series ending, the series’ current direction seems to indicate that it is heading in that direction. With the series’s current arc promising to reveal the truth about the petrification of mankind, it is a good assumption that series is heading towards its conclusion.

3 Promised Neverland

Another series resulting from Weekly Shonen Jump’s recent renaissance is Promised Neverland. This series takes place in a mysterious orphanage surrounded by a massive wall. When a couple of orphans find out the orphanage is a farm that raises children as food for mysterious demonic beings, they start plotting their escape.

The series’ conclusion has been a long time coming with the series announcing that it entered its final arc back in 2018. The most recent announcement related to the series’ conclusion was a couple of weeks ago, with Weekly Shonen Jump announcing a special project to be released with the series’ imminent final chapter.

2 Haikyu

Haikyu the long-running series about the trials and tribulations high-school volleyball team is one of the most popular sports Manga series of the past decades. The series has seen an anime adaption that has been airing semi-regularity over four seasons since 2014. Haikyu is also notable for being one of the series for sparking a renewed interest in sports-based manga and anime series in the 2010s.

Haikyu, like many of the entries in this article, announced it’s ending by the fact that the series’ current arc has been announced to be its final arc. In Haikyu’s case, it was announced October of last year that series’ new arc would be its final one. This announcement suggests that Haikyu will be reaching its conclusion soon.

1 Attack On Titan

The series Attack On Titan needs no introduction. Since the series’ animated adaption began back in 2013, the series has been one of the most popular manga series of the 2010s. The series’ popularity is a result of many things from its strong ensemble cast, unique art style, and featuring one of the creepiest monsters in fiction.

Attack on Titan is a unique entry on this list in that it has passed its originally announced end date. A couple of years it was announced that Attack on Titan’s creator Hajime Isayama was planning on finishing the series in 2019. The series is, however, still ongoing at this current date. The series is, however, reaching an endpoint due to the anime’s upcoming fourth season promising to cover the series’ final arc in full.
