Actor Ed O’Neill is one of the greats. After starting his acting profession in the early 1980s, Ed has gone on to create some memorable work on TV. Before joining the crazy cast of Modern Family as Jay Pritchett, O’Neill was known as Al Bundy in Married…. with Children. But the great actor has done voice work, movies, and more TV appearances from the late ’80s to today.

Let’s take a look back in time at 10 projects we forgot legendary actor Ed O’Neill’s been part of.

10 WAYNE’S WORLD & WAYNE’S WORLD 2

Starring Mike Myers as Wayne Campbell and Dana Carvey as his best friend Garth Algar, Wayne’s World was about Wayne and Dana’s television show that they filmed from their parents’ basement. Diehard fans of rock ‘n’ roll, their show was bought out by a larger network and the two struggled to get used to their new life.

But where did Ed O’Neill come in to play? He was the manager of Stan Mikita’s Donuts! Known as Glen, he was comically dark and mysterious.

9 LITTLE GIANTS

Little Giants was such a phenomenal movie, it’s shocking that it barely broke even in the box office. The family-friendly movie was about two very different brothers (Rick Moranis and Ed O’Neill) who coached two very different pee-wee football teams. The two decide to see which team is better in a game of all games in front of the whole town.

Ed plays the tough and competitive football coach, Kevin O’Shea, with the “supposedly” better team. He’s a former professional football player with a real eye for the game and tends to belittle his younger brother Danny. Regardless of if his team won or not, Ed played the role perfectly.

The Bone Collector was an instant hit, starring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie. As a crime thriller, we see New York City detectives go after a killer on the loose who subsequently injured their forensics officer.

Ed O’Neill plays Detective Paulie Sellitto, one of the detectives trying to catch the murderer who’s basing their murders off an old book called The Bone Collector. Now that the detectives are in the same mind as the killer, catching him (and knowing what he’s about to do next) just got a little bit easier.

7 FINDING DORY

It’s hard to believe that Ed O’Neill was apart of the iconic Finding Dory and Finding Nemo franchise. In the 2016 film, O’Neill played Hank, an octopus who was trying to escape when he met Dory. The two team up to get Dory where she needs to be and get Hank in a truck to Cleveland.

Thankfully, Dory finds her parents along the way and Hank finds his way to the ocean where both can live in harmony as they naturally should. Ed did a great job making Hank seem like the cranky old man who’s too busy to help a person in need (even though they end up helping out anyway).

6 LUCKY NUMBERS

Starring John Travolta and Lisa Kudrow, Lucky Numbers was a comedy based on a lottery mishap that took place in the 1980s. Travolta played Russ Richards who is somewhat of a local celebrity for being on the local weather channel and finds himself on the verge of a bankruptcy scandal.

To cover himself, he’s encouraged to rig the lottery so he would win. When Ed O’Neill’s character catches on to what Travolta and Kudrow’s characters were up to, he begins to blackmail them for a chance at $6.4 million. Sadly, the movie didn’t do too well in the box office.

8 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter (also known as 8 Simple Rules), lasted for three seasons and had a full cast with the likes of Kaley Cuoco, John Ritter, and Katey Sagal. While Ed wasn’t a reoccurring character on 8 Simple Rules, he did appear in the episode “Old Flame” in the third season.

In this episode, Ed plays Matt, Cate’s old boyfriend. After emailing him to catch up, the two head out for a drink. What made this episode so special was that Cate was played by Katey Sagal, Ed’s former castmate in Married…with Children.

3 WRECK-IT RALPH

Did you know that Ed O’Neill was the voice of Mr. Stan Litwak from Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph? The 2012 animated movie focused on the video game characters inside Litwak’s Family Fun Center & Arcade.

When the arcade shuts down at night, the players come to life and live in a world of their own. O’Neill doesn’t play one of the arcade characters but he is the owner of the arcade, which makes for a fun story to unfold as the viewer.

2 THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR (TV SERIES)

After the success of Madagascar, Nickelodeon and DreamWorks came together to create a TV series called The Penguins of Madagascar. Lasting for three seasons, we got to see what shenanigans the penguins and lemurs got up to at the Central Park Zoo.

In the second season, Ed played Orson in the episode “Operation: Antarctica.” In this episode, the gang tries to get a young leopard seal out of the zoo and back to Antarctica where the little guy belongs.

1 REDBELT

Redbelt was a low-budget martial arts film where Ed had a small role as a Hollywood Producer. The film follows Mike Terry, a ju-jitsu instructor, who has to get back in the ring to raise money for his crumbling life.

The movie didn’t perform well in the box office at all but we did learn that Ed is a BJJ black belt!
