It would seem that Square Enix and Eidos are moving forward at full force with Marvel content. Not only is Marvel’s Avengers still getting more content in the future but they revealed a new game at E3. Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy is coming with a new take on the now-beloved cast of colorful characters.

With nearly twenty minutes of gameplay, featurettes, and trailers given at the presentation, a lot of info was given about the game. However, there were also things that got the fans pondering as to what lies within the game when it releases along with some concerns that should be addressed.

10 Is It A Live-Service Game?

While it may have evolved and become a much better game, Marvel’s Avengers launch still left a lot of people’s mouths with a sour taste. A big part of this was because it was a live-service title à la Destiny 2 which is an already divisive method of game development.

Fortunately, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy is not that: it is confirmed to be a strictly single-player, story-driven, third-person action game. No co-op and no online multiplayer modes will be included.

9 How Deep Is Customization?

Despite operating on a gear system like Destiny 2, none of the gear changed how the characters looked in Marvel’s Avengers. While there were some solid skins, many can agree that being able to create a loadout of gear is better than skins.

Well, good and bad news, Square Enix continues their trend of no customization. Instead, there are outfits to unlock for all the Guardians but thankfully, the designs Square Enix have come up with are rather beautiful. And yes, MCU skins are confirmed thanks to the official Twitter page along with all skins that are earnable in-game, similar to the Insomniac Spider-Man games.

8 Who Is The Villain?

Currently, it is unconfirmed if there is more than one villain. However, the trailers show off a rather new and obscure villain known as Lady Hellbender, a villain of She-Hulk. She collects rare monsters and is a very powerful being with immense strength and durability.

Much like M.O.D.O.K. in Marvel’s Avengers, Lady Hellbender makes for a fresher story when the game could have easily just gone with an obvious option like Ronan The Accuser or the one and only Thanos.

7 Does It Connect To Marvel’s Avengers?

Despite its flaws, many fans were hoping for Marvel’s Avengers to expand into a shared gaming universe like the MCU. Unfortunately, the official Twitter page confirmed that Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy is a standalone title.

This is slightly disappointing as it could easily tie into the whole Kree storyline happening in Marvel’s Avengers. It’s also made by the same studio so it seems like a missed opportunity but perhaps a sequel could tie into Marvel’s Avengers if one is ever made.

6 Do Choices Actually Change The Game?

Many games attempt to feature dialogue and story-based choices but it doesn’t always pan out well. Several times in the past, games that feature choices don’t have much effect on the story. However, Square Enix and Eidos worked on the rebooted Deus Ex games which did feature well-done choices.

Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy features choices but do they actually matter? So far, it would seem so. There is text displaying if a character is angry from a decision and the official Twitter states that choices can and will have consequences later on. So, if it’s anything like Deus Ex, there will be a reason for multiple playthroughs.

5 Is It Open-World?

It is possibly open-world as suggested by the massive view of Lady Hellbender’s planet. Also, the Twitter page states that the game will take players to several planets and locales with exploration opportunities. This is a bit vague since it doesn’t explain what kind of open-world it is.

Is it Borderlands style with hundreds of main and side quests to keep the player busy? Or is it more akin to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order with a more Metroidvania style of maps? Those answers fans will have to wait for.

4 Can We Play As All The Guardians?

This is the big one that has fans divided: players can only play as Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord. So other Guardians like Drax, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot are not playable despite having their own outfits. While this may seem disappointing, they are not left out of the gameplay.

The Guardians are always at Star-Lord’s side and can be commanded in mid-combat to perform attacks à la Mass Effect or even Kingdom Hearts. It is to make the players truly feel like the leader of this unforgettable crew; once again, comparing to playing as Commander Shepard in Mass Effect.

3 Will Streamers And Let’s Players Be In Trouble?

Borrowing from the movies, Star-Lord is also a big music lover with his Walkman at the ready. The trailer already showed off several famous songs with Twitter teasing much more. This is great for any music lovers but problematic for those on YouTube and Twitch who play games for a living considering the copyright.

Not to worry as it has been confirmed that Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy has the option to turn all copyrighted music off. Just a shame that the likely many iconic songs will not be heard.

2 Will There Be DLC?

Much to the surprise of many fans: the official Twitter page confirms that there will be no DLC nor will there be any microtransactions. This is a similar shock that fans had when EA and Respawn revealed that the aforementioned Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order said the same thing and it turned out to be true.

So all content will be available for fans at launch. There could be room for extra content down the line but according to Twitter, the game will be a full experience at launch.

1 When Does It Come Out?

So if everything revealed about the game so far has someone excited and ready to play the game now? They won’t have to wait very long because Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy is slated for an October 26th, 2021 release. It will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Some may be concerned that this is a hint that the game was rushed. That is not the case as Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy has been in development for years. It makes one wonder what other secret Marvel games is Square Enix working on.
