It is hilarious, it is sensitive, it talks about serious things, and it shows great character growth. It has everything that makes a sitcom excellent and even more. A single-camera comedy, this show with an ensemble cast doesn’t need a laugh track to keep you entertained.

Amy Santiago will go down in history as one of the most iconic characters written and performed. Melissa Fumero brings a loveable nerd charm to Amy Santiago. Amy is an incredibly ambitious and hard-working character who also loves to have fun, in an orderly way of course. Here are some instances which will most definitely prove that Amy is the real hero on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

10 She Kicks Ass Even In A Wedding Gown

Amy doesn’t want to be seen looking at wedding gowns online because she knows how difficult it already is to be taken seriously as a female officer. Rosa however thinks that she should be able to do whatever “girly” things she wants to do. While on their break, Amy tries out a wedding gown at a boutique when they hear that a perp is heading their way. Amy chases the perp and takes him down using the sash of her wedding dress. It was a bad-ass moment that shows what an epic hero Amy Santiago is.

9 Working Through Her Labor

Terry and Holt are stuck in the elevator which meant that Amy had to take charge, and this happens just as her water broke. Amy is completely calm and cool as she gives orders, even as her contractions grow closer. Jake might have been able to take care of many things on the streets in that episode, but Amy was the star. She ended up having to give birth in the precinct itself because of her determination to make sure that the precinct functioned smoothly.

8 Two Steps Forward, One Step Backward Is Still A Step Forward

“He Said, She Said” is one of the most emotional episodes on the show and Amy shined in this episode. She is adamant about making sure the sexual assailant is brought to justice and is personally invested in making sure of this because of something that had happened to her in the past as well. The main theme of the episode revolves around sexual assault and the difficulty in procuring evidence for the same.

It also showed the blowback the woman who reports the assault has to face. But Amy was right in still going forward with the case because it gave an opportunity for more women to come forward with their stories.

7 Being Hardcore In Prison

Amy Santiago kills it in prison. She is so hardcore and shows it off in this episode. This mission is so risky that Jake backs out of supervising her because he has trouble seeing her in this extremely risky situation. But Amy is able to get close to Maura and join her gang after she shows the entire prison what a dangerous person this pregnant Amy is. Prison Amy is amazing to watch and Melissa Fumero’s comedy skills shine through in this episode. Watching Amy punch Jake is also really fun for fans to watch.

6 Amy Becomes A Sergeant

Amy Santiago is unabashedly ambitious. Her only moment of doubt is cleared off when Jake tells her that she’s too good to not follow her dreams. She wants to be the youngest person to make Captain. And becoming a Sergeant is the first step to that process. Amy aces the test and clears it and it is wonderful for viewers to witness the promotion she gets. Amy is one step closer to her dreams and shows how hard work and dedication goes a long way in fulfilling your ambitions.

5 Amy Wins The Heist

Halloween Heists are some of the best things in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Holt thinks Amy is just Jake’s girlfriend, and Jake thinks Amy is just Holt’s lackey. They both vastly underestimate Amy and Amy wants to show how wrong they were in doing so. She goes ahead and wins the whole heist. Amy pulls off this win at the Halloween heist taking advantage of the fact that nobody was expecting her to win. And she succeeds. It’s a tremendous win and fans loved every minute of Amy showing the boys how it’s done.

4 Amy Is All Out Of Hoots

Fans of the show know how much Amy respects Holt. She is very afraid of authority figures and wouldn’t ever dare to reprimand them. Yet, when Holt starts insulting Jake even after Jake goes to great lengths to cheer Holt up in the middle of their honeymoon, Amy loses it.

She stands up to her boss, something she has never done before, and she stands up for her husband. It was a great heroic and hilarious moment for Amy when she says that she’s “all out of hoots.”

3 “What is this, 1950?”

When Jake meets Amy’s dad for the first time, he is very invested in getting his approval. Amy’s dad, however, doesn’t think Jake is good enough for his daughter. They both have this ego clash and Amy has to remind them that both of them were being really stupid. She asks Jake why he needs her father’s approval to date her. She calls out on their inability to see that it is her decision to make, as to who she dates. She has complete agency. Amy doesn’t feature prominently in this Thanksgiving episode, but she steals the show with this short monologue.

2 Amy Kills The New Captain

The beginning of the romance between Amy and Jake sees multiple mishaps happening. Even though Amy had a strict set of rules regarding their dating, they end up breaking most of their rules. Amy is someone who usually follows rules very strictly. And this makes it all the more entertaining for viewers when they see how Amy pulls in Jake to makeout in the evidence room. Their new captain happens to walk in on them and meets his end because of his heart condition. But Amy taking charge of their romance like that was delightful to watch.

1 Amy Deals With An Amy

Once Amy becomes a Sergeant, she is in charge of people whose respect she now has to earn. In the middle of this, she realizes that there is someone who seems to be exactly like her and she finds it difficult to deal with him. This extremely energetic, upbeat, overachiever, closely resembles the officer Amy used to be and still is to some extent. This episode showed Amy how Holt found it a pleasure to deal with Amy. And she realizes that the best way to deal with an Amy, is to listen patiently to an Amy. And Amy successfully carries out a briefing like a boss.
