10 ShortLived Vampires On The Vampire Diaries

During the bloody eternal war for supernatural supremacy waged among vampires, werewolves, witches, and omnipotent hybrids in The Vampire Diaries, several overmatched bloodsucking immortals were slain in short order. While some of the main heroic and villainous vampires persisted for the majority of the 171 episodes produced from 2009 to 2017, others were swiftly dispatched thanks to Klaus Mikaelson’s almighty bloodline as well as the almighty vampire hunting Salvatore family.

As The Vampire Diaries’ popular spinoff series Legacies careens toward its Season 4 finale on December 16, 2021, now is the perfect time to reflect on some of the fastest-felled vampiric ghouls TVD has seen thus far.

10 Logan Fell

Outliving his sister Violet by a single episode, Logan Fell (Chris Johnson) was a local Mystic Falls news reporter who had his blood drained by Damon as a human. When he resurrected as a vampire, Alaric fatally staked him to death during Logan’s fifth episode on the show.

Prior to turning and dying for a second time in short order, Logan did his best to protect his girlfriend Jenna, although she too ended up being turned into a vampire. For hardened TVD trivia fans out there, Logan was the second vampire to be turned on the entire show.

9 Ivy

After beginning her time as Salvatore’s human girlfriend in Season 6, Ivy (Emily C. Chang) was killed when Enzo broke her neck. When Ivy came back as a vampire, she lasted less than three episodes before being staked to death by vampire hunter Tripp.

Although she was a very caring and optimistic human being, Ivy became aggressively outspoken in her need for blood after her transformation. Largely conceived as a character meant to help Stefan get over the death of his brother, Ivy was a relatively expendable vampire on the show.

8 Vicki Donovan

Although Vicki Donovan (Kayla Ewell) has more total episodes than some of the others, most of her time was spent as a ghostly entity roaming the Earthly plane following her two deaths. The first character turned on the show, Vicki had her neck broken by Damon before having her vampiric heart impaled by Stefan in the seventh episode.

Billed as one of the main characters who was unceremoniously killed off early in the series, Vicki’s sudden demise left fans reeling over the loss. Her personality as The Stoner set her apart from the others in Mystic Falls, prompting fans to want to see more of her.

7 Jesse

10 ShortLived Vampires On The Vampire Diaries

Introduced in the Season 5 premiere, Jesse was a handsome and charming human who was killed via lethal injection by Wes. Upon coming back as a vampire, Elena staked him to death in the heart in the very next episode.

Despite his brief time as a blood-thirsty ghoul, Jesse bore the distinction of being a super-powerful Augustine Vampire, meaning he also possessed a penchant for vampire blood. Even though he was only a weeks-old Augustine Vampire, he was able to overpower the 172-year-old Damon before being dispatched by Elena.

6 Ashlynn

Another single-episode vampire who faced a horrific fate on the show includes Ashlynn (Nikki Tomlinson), a selfish vamp who became trapped in the Phoenix Stone just before its annihilation. Leaving her so-called friends behind to ensure her own safe escape, Ashlynn was rudely met by an unnamed Armory agent who staked her in the heart.

As an easily expandable vampire without much of a character arc, Ashlynn largely serves Alaric and Caroline’s storyline, as they are the ones hunting her down before she mounts a fatal escape.

5 Cody Webber

Only appearing in Season 2 Episode 10, Cody Webber (James Harvey Ward) was a vampiric agent of Klaus sent to retrieve Elena for a sacrificial offering. When Cody arrived at Slater’s loft to pick Elena up and deliver her to Klaus, Elijah suddenly appeared and scarily tore Cody’s heart plum out of his chest cavity.

Clearly written as a foil to reinforce Elijah’s loyalty to Elena, Cody’s brief flirtation with vampirism marks the first time a bloodsucking immortal was felled via heart extraction.

4 Ben McKittrick

Introduced in Season 1 Episode 12 and gone by Episode 14, Ben McKittrick (Sean Faris) was a high school football player in Mystic Falls who was recruited by the ancient vampire Anna to be his eyes and ears. When Anna turned him into a vampire, Ben’s cocksure attitude made him underestimate Stefan’s strength.

Tired of the teenager’s insolence, Stefan quickly sets Ben ablaze with a flamethrower and kills his vampiric form mere hours after being transformed. A mere sacrificial pawn controlled by Anna anyway, Ben was never designed for immortal longevity.

3 Krystal

10 ShortLived Vampires On The Vampire Diaries

Played by Alex Mauriello over three episodes of TVD Season 7, Krystal was a short-lasting vampire turned by Julian who had an illicit affair with Damon, an almighty vampire hunter. While Damon managed to keep her alive, Krstyal’s attempt to avenge Shawn ended up costing her immortality when Rayna showed up and shot her through the heart in the nick of time.

Although her time as a vampire ended after just three episodes, Krystal was ill-afforded a clear fate following the collapse of The Other Side, leaving her to either find peace or be delivered to hell.

2 Violet Fell

10 ShortLived Vampires On The Vampire Diaries

Introduced in Season 8 Episode 8 of TVD, Violet Fell (Sammi Hanratty) was a Mystic Falls high school student who was sirened by Cybil and subsequently killed by Stefan in her human form. When Violet resurrected as a vampire, she lasted less than a full episode before being staked to death by Stefan.

Under the evil influence of Caroline, Violet’s most harrowing moment came when she was spotted feeding on a room full of human victims at Mystic Falls Grill (which people can visit in real life). Afterward, Stefan sacrificed her to Cade as a pure-soul offering.

1 Jenna Sommers

With less than an hour spent on TVD as a vampire before she was slain by Klaus, Jenna Sommers (Sara Canning) may be the shortest-lived bloodsucker in show history. However, even after she was staked by Klaus, she hung around Mystic Falls as a wandering spirit. If any character deserves a spin-off show, it’s Jenna.

Despite being a vampire for less than 60 minutes, Jenna’s advanced transformation allowed her to attack the witchy Greta and sacrifice her own life in order to save Elena. Since her heart remained pure even in her brief vampiric form, Esther granted her eternal peace in the afterlife.
