Fans of Stranger Things know that the show embodies many genres, including fantasy, mystery, coming-of-age, science fiction, horror, family drama, and comedy.

Furthermore, each season has leaned slightly more towards a different genre. While season one focused on the mysterious happenings at the laboratory in Hawkins, Indiana, season two leaned more into the horror genre than ever before. Season three maintained these elements but put a bright, summer, ’80’s teen movie spin on it, with a focus on the kids not really being kids anymore. Fans are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the fourth season, and are excited for what’s in store.

10 Avatar: The Last Airbender

Avatar: The Last Airbender, like Stranger Things, tells the story of a group of kids who stumble upon a super-powerful bald kid with a tattoo. In a world where “benders” have the ability to manipulate earth, air, water, and fire, 12-year-old boy Aang is the avatar, one in a long line of benders with the ability to manipulate all of the elements.

Like Eleven, Aang finds strength in the friendships he forms and he has to train to use his powers for good against forces of evil. Check out all three seasons streaming on Netflix.

9 The Americans

If your favorite part of Stranger Things is all the Russian intrigue, then check out The Americans. Fantastically acted, directed, and written, The Americans offers six perfect seasons that center on KGB spies Phillip and Elizabeth Jennings, who live deep undercover as Americans.

There’s also a family element to the story, as their two children begin to ask questions as they get older regarding why their mom and dad are always out so late. The series also offers one of the best conclusions of a television show, ever.

8 Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer follows a girl named Buffy, who, as you may have guessed, slays vampires.

Like Stranger Things, the show is about a group of teenagers who fight monsters and get themselves into all kinds of dangerous scenarios in their efforts to protect the small town they live and go to school in.

7 The Legend Of Korra

The Legend of Korra takes place in the same universe as Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series centers on Korra, the next avatar after Aang’s death. Like Eleven in Stranger Things, Korra is a powerful young woman who has to learn to master her skills, forging friendships and finding family along the way.

Each season offers a new villain for Korra to face, which forces her to learn and grow and sometimes change the world around her with the help of her friends. Like ATLA, all seasons of LOK are available to stream on Netflix.

6 Dark

When Dark premiered, the comparisons to Stranger Things were inevitable. Both Netflix originals center on teenagers faced with a frightening mystery when a young boy goes missing one night. Both take place in a small town, where everyone knows one another and kids ride their bikes everywhere (though Stranger Things takes place in the U.S., and Dark in Germany).

Both also take place (at least partially where Dark is concerned) in the 1980’s. These similarities are enough to draw many comparisons, but the two shows are actually quite different beyond this. Dark is a show about a town and families affected by time travel, and there are no supernatural elements in it beyond this. However, fans of Stranger Things are sure to enjoy the horror, mystery, sci-fi, and coming-of-age elements in Dark.

5 The Mandalorian

Disney+ hit original series The Mandalorian will likely resonate with those who enjoy the relationship that has developed between Hopper and Eleven on Stranger Things, as well as those who enjoy the fantasy genre as a whole.

On the surface, Chief Hopper and the titular Mandalorian, Din Djarin, couldn’t be any more different. However, they’re both gun-slinging dudes who play by their own rules and harbor a soft spot for orphaned kids with crazy telekinetic abilities. With the second season of The Mandalorian ending with a separation, of sorts, enter at your own risk, but do check it out.

4 Killing Eve

For fans of Stranger Things that also enjoy the mystery genre in general, check out Killing Eve. Sandra Oh stars as the titular Eve, who tries desperately to track down a Russian assassin named Villanelle. Both women are fantastic in their roles, and the supporting cast is astounding as well.

While lacking in the fantasy department Stranger Things fans typically enjoy, Killing Eve offers a more straightforward game of cat and mouse between two women whose romantic feelings for one another complicate things in a delicious way.

3 The Witcher

Like Stranger Things and The Mandalorian, The Witcher (another Netflix original series) has a lot to offer fans of the very specific “reluctant father figure ferries powerful young orphan from place to place whilst danger ensues” trope.

Henry Cavill plays the witcher himself, a man with unique monster-hunting abilities that make him very badass and very in-demand. He’s tasked with the protection of a powerful young woman, who is on the run after her kingdom is under siege. Most of season one focuses on fleshing out the characters on their own, but season two promises to throw them together and let the relationships develop.

2 Rebels

While you’re checking out The Mandalorian on Disney+, check out Rebels. Rebels focuses on the journey of Ezra Bridger, a young man strong with the Force who is adopted into a sort of family in the form of the crew of rebels onboard the Ghost.

Rebels is chock-full of fantasy and found family, something fans of Stranger Things will surely love.

1 WandaVision

Disney+’s most recent commercial hit is WandaVision, a limited series about Wanda Maximoff, otherwise known to comic book fans as the Scarlet Witch. After losing her boyfriend Vision (twice), her grief causes her to create her own reality.

She uses her power to enslave a town full of people in order to live out her sitcom fantasies, wherein Vision is alive and she and him have a happy family live in a small, quant town. The sitcoms Wanda toys with cover a few decades, one of which is the ’80s. These aesthetics will be familiar to Stranger Things fans, as will the show’s exploration of grief and humor.
