X-Force was introduced in the movies in Deadpool 2 but it had little to do with the comics. Here is what you need to know about the comics characters.

Movie fans got to meet X-Force thanks to their appearance in Deadpool 2, but the fans who only know about the team from that appearance don’t really know X-Force. In that movie, they were mostly a joke with only Domino coming out looking like a genuine hero. However, in the comics, they are not only one of the top mutant Marvel teams, but dangerous and deadly.
X-Men’s 10 Best Comic Issues of the 1990s
In the comics, X-Force is the black-ops team for the mutant nation. In the start, this was done behind the backs of the main X-Men team, but in more recent times, they work for the mutant government of Krakoa. Some of the strongest and meanest mutants have served on this team, and they have become the backbone of mutant security.
10 They Were Originally The New Mutants
The New Mutants and X-Force both exist in Marvel Comics, but at one time they were one and the same. In 1991, Cable had taken leadership of the New Mutants and convinced the team to leave Xavier’s school and follow Cable’s leadership and dreams.
In New Mutants #100, the team chose to change their names and identity. They formed X-Force and starred in their own series by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, becoming much more proactive and soon developed into what fans know them as today.
9 They Joined Cable Because They Didn’t Trust Magneto
The main thing that convinced the New Mutants to follow Cable was that Magneto had taken leadership of the X-Men and none of the New Mutants trusted the former villain. This was because Professor X had given Magneto his blessing to take over leadership but the New Mutants never heard it from Xavier.
As a result, they left the Xavier Institute with Cable to help him in his mission to stop and defeat a clone from the future named Stryfe. This set them off in a new direction from the mutants in the X-Men.
8 X-Force Was Enemies With The X-Men
Since Cable trained X-Force to operate proactively to stop possible threats to mutants, they often found themselves branded as villains. The entire purpose of X-Force was different than any other team formed from Xavier’s Institute — he wanted to stop the villains before they could hurt the mutants.
This made them often look like terrorists, and when the team battled another terrorist group in the Mutant Liberation Front, it was often cloudy which was worse. As a result, other Marvel mutant teams like X-Factor and the X-Men took the battle to X-Force to stop them.
7 Domino Was Originally A Spy
When X-Force formed, it included one of its most popular members in Domino. The team went on to become a major force in Marvel Comics, but then Domino’s secret ended up exposed. This was not the real Domino and was instead an imposter — Deadpool’s ex-girlfriend, Copycat.
Copycat was sent in my Tolliver to infiltrate X-Force and spy on Cable for him. She ended up developing a bond with the team and refused to help Deadpool beat them, fighting by their side until Cable found the real Domino and Copycat went into hiding.
6 A Second X-Force Formed In 2002
It appeared that X-Force died in action, sacrificing themselves to save the world. Spike Freeman ended up purchasing the rights to the name X-Force and he formed a new mutant team that he put into action to help him make money off their adventures.
This led to X-Force returning, still alive, and attacking the new team to regain their names. Eventually, this new X-Force team had to change their name after Spike didn’t want to pay to license it anymore. This new team became known as X-Statix.
5 X-Force Became A Mutant Black-Ops Team
While the X-Men did not approve of X-Force’s violent proactive ways, that all changed when Cyclops became more disenchanted with the mutant and human relationships and felt the mutants were not doing enough to protect themselves.
He reformed X-Force with Wolverine as its new leader. Their first job was to hunt down Cable and the first mutant born after M-Day, Hope Summers, who went on to become one of X-Force’s most powerful members. Even when Cyclops tried to end the team, Wolverine kept it running behind the scenes.
4 Cable Later Reformed X-Force To Fight His Possible Future
In the 2012 series Cable and X-Force, Cable returned to lead the team again when he developed a new power. He became a precog and he could see things that happened in the future. This was all a side effect of his cure from the techno-organic virus.
Since he saw the visions of the future of mutants, he reformed the team to once again proactively stop these incidents from happening to protect mutants.
3 X-Force Found The Young Cable
In X-Force Vol. 5 in 2018, the original members of X-Force teamed up again when Cable died. The purpose of the team was to hunt down the person responsible, and Cannonball, Domino, Shatterstar, Boom Boom, and Warpath set out to do that.
However, they soon found the person they were looking for was a young time-traveling version of Cable to figure out what his plans are following the death of his older self. When they learned a foreign government was using weapons from Cable’s future, the team was officially back in action.
2 Deadpool Can’t Be A Member Anymore
Deadpool 2 introduced X-Force as the man who founded the team to help him stop Cable. That is nothing like the comics, where Cable formed the team and Deadpool was one of their original villains. However, over time Deadpool became a member of X-Force and fought by their side.
In today’s Marvel mutant world, Deadpool is no longer welcome to work with X-Force. In the comics, Deadpool is not a mutant even though he received his healing factor from Wolverine. He is a superpowered human and that means he is not allowed in Krakoa or allowed to serve on any mutant team.
1 Beast Has Used X-Force For Nefarious Reasons In Krakoa
The new X-Force in Krakoa is worse than even the original black-ops teams led by Cable. They are still a black-ops team, but this one breaks as many laws as they try to uphold, and they do it under the leadership of original X-Men member, The Beast.
The Beast has sent them out to steal things from other countries. He has ordered controversial experiments on mutants. He has ordered the deaths of his own mutant team members to keep his operations a secret. He did all this after telling Professor X to not ask questions and it has turned Beast into one of the most immoral mutants in Krakoa.
