10 Things That Everyone Missed In Crisis On Infinite Earths

The CW has offered several superheroes crossovers in the Arrowverse over the years. But Crisis on Infinite Earths is definitely the most ambitious crossover to this date. It premiered last Autumn and introduced a threat of such magnitude that it took almost all the heroes (and a few new) to join forces and stand side by side against their mutual enemy.

Even then, the final battle wasn’t without consequences and the Arrowverse will never be the same again. The crossover included not only many superheroes but also a lot of jokes and easter eggs, some of which the fans may have missed.

10 Link To A Previous Crossover

The crossover featured a lot of character cameos and links to superheroes from alternate Earths, so it’s easy to forget or not notice at all some of them. Especially those who only appeared on the screen in a flash.

One of those conspicuous cameos was a brief appearance of The Ray, played by the British actor Russell Tovey. He appeared so briefly it was easy to overlook, but his presence created a nice link to a previous Arrowverse crossover – Crisis on Earth-X (also known as the Nazi Earth).

9 From Star Trek To Arrowverse

Another very brief cameo that the fans mostly overlooked simply because they weren’t looking for it in the first place is this one. Wil Wheaton is best known for his part as Wesley Crusher in the Star Trek: The Next Generation series.

In the crossover, he’s seen for a moment as a man holding a sign about the end of the world. What’s even more interesting is that this sign has already appeared in the second Superman film in 1980.

8 Dead Joker

When Kate and Kara travel to one of the Earths to find the Paragon of Courage they encounter a bitter old Bruce Wayne who resorted to killing the villains during his time as Batman. It’s soon revealed that this Bruce Wayne isn’t the Paragon of anything as he reveals the truth about his actions.

The attention is directed to the fact that he killed his world’s Superman and then he tries to kill Kara, but his collection of bloodied trophies also shows that he killed the Joker. This could be a clever reference to the famous comic book Batman: The Killing Joke.

7 The Return Of Superman’s Son

Brandon Routh appeared as Superman in the crossover since he already played the iconic superhero in the 2006 film Superman Returns. In the film, Superman had a son named Jason White with Lois Lane.

Superman mentions his son in the crossover briefly when he says that the baby boy of another Lois Lane and Clark Kent reminds him of his own son, Jason.

6 The All-Star Squadron

When Ralph Dibny aka the Elongated Man sees all the heroes who have joined forces to battle the threat, he calls them the All-Star Squadron.

People who don’t read the comic books (or even those who do) might not realize that that’s a name of an actual superhero team. The team first appeared in the comics in 1981 and was introduced in a Justice League comic book issue.

5 Ryan Choi’s Daughter

Superman’s son isn’t the only child that plays a small part in the crossover. So does Ryan Choi’s daughter. Ryan Choi has no special powers but he’s a brilliant scientist and becomes one of the Paragons.

In the comics, Choi is a huge admirer of Ray Palmer’s work and later becomes the superhero Atom himself. His daughter in the crossover is then named Simone, a nice nod to Gail Simone, a co-creator of the character of Ryan Choi in the comics.

4 A Fan Named Marv

Ryan Choi’s daughter’s name isn’t the only reference to important comic book creators that made it into the show – but the second one is even better. When the superheroes deal with the Crisis, they realize that all of their homes have merged into one and they’re now living on the same planet.

Barry and Kara realize this when a fan named Marv approaches them after they fought the Weather Witch. This Marv is none other than Marv Wolfman who wrote the comic book version of Crisis on Infinite Earths.

3 Sara Returns

John Diggle and Lyla Michaels had a daughter on the TV show Arrow. They named her Sara to honor the then dead Sara Lance who later came back to life. But when Barry traveled to the past and created the Flashpoint, the reality changed and Sara was replaced by a boy named John.

However, Sara returned at the end of the crossover, this time as a slightly older child. It’s a nice change since she was always meant to exist, at least until Barry messed with time when he shouldn’t have.

2 More Than One Superman

Brandon Routh’s Superman briefly dies in the crossover but is later revived and seen happily flying around the Earth with a smile on his lips, this time dressed in a lighter and more cheerful version of his costume than the one he had previously donned.

But his presence means that there are currently two Supermen alive and it also potentially gives the opportunity for Routh to reprise his role in the future – especially now that he stopped playing Ray Palmer in the Arrowverse.

1 Perez Landing

Finally, another nod to an important comic book artist who worked on the Crisis on Infinite Earths happened when the heroes were fighting the Anti-Monitor’s demons. One of the places they fought at was called Perez Landing.

That’s a reference to George Perez who was the artist on the comic book version of the storyline, so even though he didn’t appear in person as Marv Wolfman did, he still got the recognition he deserves for his work. After all, without the comic books, there would be no crossover.
