10 Things That Make No Sense About Food Wars Season 3

Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma is one of the most visually attractive food anime out there. It also has a very unique theme that combines a school anime, an action anime, and one that takes the term “delicious” to a different level, all for a very entertaining and mouth-watering experience.

This title is full of interesting and unbelievable things, and in this list, we’ll be taking a look at the entirety of season 3 and some things that don’t quite make any sense there. Suffice to say, there will be spoilers contained in this list.

10 You Need To Watch The OVAs To Have A Better Understanding Of The Season

10 Things That Make No Sense About Food Wars Season 3

If you go straight into watching the episodes of season 3 (and season 4 too), there might be moments where you may find yourself scratching your head and wondering when a certain interaction happened.

Throughout the season, they show flashbacks relating to the Elite Ten Council which are scenes from OVA that came just before season 3 started. They do give the context to the flashback in their dialogues, but it’s still unusual to have those moments where you feel like you missed something.

9 You Can Actually Get Expelled During The Moon Festival

10 Things That Make No Sense About Food Wars Season 3

Totsuki is a very competitive school, and as a student there you have to face exams where you risk your position in the school. It doesn’t quite make sense though, to volunteer to risk your spot at the school.

It was revealed that students with booths that don’t turn a profit during the entire event will, in fact, be expelled. I know that competition thrives in this school, but that’s just a whole different level.

8 Totsuki Squad, Gastron!

10 Things That Make No Sense About Food Wars Season 3

This one’s not that big of a detail but is still unusual. Festivals have more than just food booths, and Totsuki’s is no different. They showed, although only briefly, a performance for the kids that’s kind of like the Power Rangers, but their opponents are monsters based on actual dishes.

To be specific, they were: Xiao Long Bao Man, Ground Chicken Skewer Man, and Fresh Assorted Sashimi Platter Man. If the idea of turning dishes into monsters isn’t weird enough, you should see what they looked like. It’s just… a very unique concept.

7 The Members Of The Chinese Cuisine RS

10 Things That Make No Sense About Food Wars Season 3

Terunori Kuga is the president of the Chinese Cuisine RS and is a master when it comes to Sichuan Cuisine. During the Moon Festival, we see the full force of his club, and all of the members look kind of older and are all balled and very muscular.

This is unusual because of two reasons: firstly, this group seems to outnumber the entire Totsuki population. How are there so many members in just one club? Secondly, why do they all look the same? Yes, consistency is important to Kuga and the restaurant service, but do they really all have to be identical?

6 Mimasaka Subaru’s Perfect Profiling

10 Things That Make No Sense About Food Wars Season 3

Most of the students in Totsuki, if not all, have cuisines that they specialize in. Mimasaka Subaru is different, however, in that instead of a specialty cuisine, he has a special ability that lets him mimic any chef that he chooses just by studying them.

This skill of his, called Perfect Profiling, was first shown in Season 2 and was again featured in this season when he was mysteriously asked by Yukihira Soma to help during the Moon Festival. The skill itself may be weird on its own but add to that the fact that his profiling doesn’t only cover their cooking style but also their entire personality and even appearance to an extent, and you have something even more unusual.

5 The Elite Ten Council Were Able To Vote And Remove the Director

10 Things That Make No Sense About Food Wars Season 3

When you think of a school hierarchy, typically the management of the school is at the very top and are the ones in charge of making major decisions. In Totsuki however, it turns out that a group of students outrank even the adults that are supposed to run the school.

After Nakiri Azami worked his influence behind the scenes, he was able to get this group of students, the Elite Ten Council, to cast a vote that removed the current director and put Azami in his place. This is such a huge burden to put on teenagers, and the impact of their decision on the school is great as well, even though it only won by a slim majority.

4 Nakiri Azami

Nakiri Azami is Director Senzaemon’s son-in-law and Erina’s father. Unlike any of the other characters in Shokugeki no Soma, he exudes an ominousness that shows across his appearance and every movement and speech. This makes him quite a unique character makes his introduction very effective in shaking up the entire story.

It’s also a wonder why he acts the way he does, why his beliefs are the way that they are, and why he treated his own daughter the way that he did. He’s a great addition to the story and is possibly the scariest person in the entirety of Shokugeki no Soma.

3 Tsukasa Eishi

Having multiple sides to characters isn’t something new or unusual, but in this case, the disparity between the two sides is striking. After two seasons of anticipation, all the members of the Elite Ten Council were finally introduced, and in the number one seat is Tsukasa Eishi who specializes in French cuisine.

When he’s around food or when he’s cooking, he is very confident, soft-spoken but very serious. Beyond that, however, he’s nervous, anxious, and sometimes child-like. The interesting thing is that, aside from how different these sides are, the switch between them can happen in an instant and this makes him both an entertaining and somewhat scary character in the show.

2 Hayama Joins Central As A New Member of the Elite Ten Council

10 Things That Make No Sense About Food Wars Season 3

One of the biggest reveals during the advancement exams was the fact Hayama Akira, with his superhuman sense of smell, joined Central as the newest member of the Elite Ten. Yukihira and the others were visibly surprised and as the audience, the feelings may be mutual.

Hayama is one of the more overconfident first years in Totsuki but he’s very fond of the Shiomi Research Group and his mentor, so him succumbing to Azami’s ideals regarding autonomous groups makes no sense. His reason and situation are explained fairly quickly, but seeing him on the enemy side is still unbelievable.

1 The Nakiri Family’s Special Skills (The Explosion & The Gift)

If you’ve watched even just the first episode of this show, then you know that delicious food equates to a vision that usually involves clothes being ripped off. And anyone who’s watched the previous seasons would also be familiar with Director Senzaemon’s signature ability to instantly bare his chest as a reaction to amazing dishes.

This is, apparently, a special skill that the Nakiri family has, and it’s more intense than the chest-baring. The Explosion goes a step further and strips the Nakiri member, and The Gift goes even further and strips those around them as well. These are skills that are innate in the family members and it makes them unable to deny their feelings about the dishes that they try.
