10 Things Titans Gets Wrong About Batman

While fans weren’t sure what to make of a live-action version of the Teen Titans at first, they’ve definitely come around. Titans is frequently one of the most-viewed shows when it premieres on streaming services. Already fans are excited to see what Season 5 of the show will bring.

However, while many of the characters in the show might not perfectly line up with their usual selves, one, in particular, stands out. Titans’ version of Bruce Wayne, played by Iain Glen, feels quite different from what fans are used to. Though the character isn’t in too many episodes, since the show revolves around Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, the character appears enough for the viewers watching to notice all the differences.

10 This Version Of Batman Is Way Too Old

This version of Batman is much older than most that have been shown in mass media while also being active. Typically, at the stage where Jason Todd becomes Robin, Bruce Wayne is still in his late 30s at the oldest.

In this series, Bruce is already in his late 50s, potentially early 60s. It hints that this is a Bruce Wayne who was Batman for years before finally bringing Dick Grayson in, allowing him to train for years before eventually taking on Jason.

9 Removing Dick From His Security

Dick Grayson has always been one of Bruce Wayne’s closest allies. Even when Dick quit being Robin, Bruce still treated him like he was family. The only thing he wanted was for his son to have his own space and figure things out on his own.

The Titans’ version of Bruce doesn’t trust Dick enough to allow him access to the Batcave anymore. Barely a few months after quitting, Bruce has already changed all of the security codes, considering him more of a risk than anything.

8 He’s Scared To Do The Job Alone

After losing Jason, Bruce does something highly uncharacteristic: he begs Dick Grayson to come back. He admits he can’t do it without Dick, and implores him to become Robin again. In the comics, Batman has always wanted Dick to become his own man, even if that meant never becoming Batman in his stead.

Having Bruce admit that he was basically scared to continue working as Batman in Gotham City on his own felt out of character.

7 He’s So Violent He Made Dick Grayson Not Want To Work With Him

10 Things Titans Gets Wrong About Batman

Batman has always been one of the most violent heroes in the DC Universe. He needs it to survive in Gotham City, one of the most dangerous cities in comic books. But this version of Batman is different. He’s far crueler, to the point where Dick basically abandons him specifically because he feels like Bruce is becoming too violent.

This is something that happened in the comics as well, but it specifically happened after Jason’s death, not before. Suffering that loss pushed him to become darker, whereas in Titans he just became dark from working in Gotham for such a long period of time.

6 He’s Willing To Kill

10 Things Titans Gets Wrong About Batman

Batman has two rules that are impossible for him to break normally. He doesn’t use guns and he doesn’t believe in killing. He doesn’t kill people because it would become too easy for him to go down that path and never return. In Titans though, learning Joker is responsible for Jason Todd’s death pushes him over the edge.

He breaks into Arkham and kills a defenseless Joker as revenge, finally putting an end to their years-long rivalry. Perhaps for a Batman that was already on the edge, this was enough to push him over.

5 He Doesn’t Trust Robin

Bruce has always wanted to look after all of his kids. But he trusts them to take care of themselves when necessary. That’s why he spends so much time training them. In Titans, Bruce is much more… psychopathic.

He doesn’t trust Dick so much that he implants a tracker into his body without ever telling him. This is a gross invasion of privacy even comic book Batman would never have considered. This is a Batman that is willing to do anything if it helps him reach his goals, no matter how people might see him.

4 He Treats His Robins As Easily Replaceable

10 Things Titans Gets Wrong About Batman

One of the most uncharitable readings of Batman is that he sees children as potential soldiers in his war against crime. The comics thus far have done a great job of avoiding something like that, making the people who come to him those who would have become a crime-fighter regardless of what Bruce did, like Tim Drake or even Kate Kane, the Batwoman.

But in Titans, Bruce actually keeps a file on potential children he can recruit into his cause. It makes the character that much more dark and cynical, which might fit for some. Others might see this as stripping the character of anything that makes him remotely heroic.

3 He Quit On The Job

After Jason Todd dies in the comic, Bruce becomes a much darker person. He becomes more violent on the streets. But in Titans, the combination of losing Jason and Dick refusing to work with him again breaks him. Rather than try to continue fighting, he quits.

This is the strangest change to Batman of all, as Batman doesn’t know how to give up being Batman. He does the job because he knows how much it needs to be done. Even loss wouldn’t allow him to quit on himself or Gotham City.

2 His Family Doesn’t Love Him

10 Things Titans Gets Wrong About Batman

In the comics, it’s clear that everyone in the Bat-Universe looks up to Bruce. He’s built up a make-shift family in the form of the Bat-Family, and all of them love Bruce even when he’s at his most moody. But Titans takes this idea and completely turns it on its head; both Jason and Dick hate Bruce.

They’re constantly trying to break away from his influence in their own ways. Even Barbara can’t stand him, while she’s usually one of his biggest allies in most series. This is a Batman that has shattered every important relationship he’s ever had.

1 Bruce Wayne Pretends Not To Care About His Allies

Batman has always cared about his allies. He might not be able to show it in the ways others do, but he feels loss the same as any other human. It has driven him to do impossible things like how he brought Damian Wayne back to life.

Titans’ version of the character puts up a nonchalant emotional wall so it feels like he’s not bothered at all. This is probably why so many of his teammates have so much trouble working with him.
