And it did so by ramping up everything that fans love about the series, such as the physically impossible stunts and the high-octane action scenes.

However, not every Fast & Furious fan can be satisfied all that easily. Between completely abandoning street racing, featuring an over-the-top final act, and the way it strangely connects to Tokyo Drift, a lot of outspoken fans have some unpopular opinions about the sixth movie.

10 The Plane Scene Is The Worst

One of the best things about the sixth movie is the massively ambitious finale, as it sees the gang attempt to chase down a plane that Owen Shaw is about to take off in. The scene has drawn criticism from some because of how long the scene is compared to how a real-life runway is.

It has been calculated that the runway must have been 28 miles long for the scene to make any sense. And for this reason, one Redditor simply calls it “the worst.” However, the vault heist at the end of Fast Five, which has also been praised to no end, was just as unrealistic, as it saw two muscle cars pull a literal 10-ton vault at high speed. And on top of that, audiences don’t exactly watch the Fast & Furious series for how authentic it is.

9 It Features The Best Cars In The Series

By this point in the series, admiring the cars was almost pointless, as the franchise was no longer about street racing, but heists and spies. But regardless of what the movie’s about, it still features a ton of cars for the gear-head fans.

Though there are still cars in the movie, Fast & furious 6 is known for not having the best line-up of vehicles compared to the other movies. It features neither the fastest cars in the series or the most expensive ones. However, this Redditor believes it has the best selection of vehicles than any of the other movies, specifically noting Brian’s Ford Escort and Rome’s Mustang.

However, to the user’s credit, Evan is one of the best characters introduced after the first movie. Up to this point in the series, there hadn’t been a villain of any substance, as Fast Five featured a run-of-the-mill corrupt multi-millionaire, and 2 Fast 2 Furious had Carter Verone.

7 It’s Better Than Fast Five Because Letty Is In It

In Fast & Furious, Letty was killed off, and some believe that left Fast Five with a Letty-shaped hole. However, though she does have a huge presence in the series and is the primary person who motivates Dom in anything he does, she isn’t all that integral to the franchise, which is exactly why she was the character who was killed off.

And on top of that, Fast Five is universally known as the crown jewel in the Fast & Furious franchise, not just because of the character choices, but because of the narrative, the story arcs, and, of course, the introduction of Hobbs.

6 The Spy Elements Were An Awkward Transition

Fast Five is the biggest tent pole movie in the entire franchise, as it completely transformed the series into what it is today. The movie seamlessly turned a series that was known mostly for its street racing into a heist movie along the lines of Ocean’s Eleven.

While Fast & Furious 6 still retains those heist elements, it attempts to go even further by making it somewhat of a spy thriller. Not everyone thought the transition was as seamless as it could have been, but given that it holds one the highest scores in the series on IMDb, and it’s most loved for Owen Shaw, the spy elements were more than welcomed by audiences.

4 The Dialogue Was Dumbed Down

One Redditor criticizes the dialogue of the movie, claiming it is too dumbed down compared to the movies that came before it. But the thing is, the dialogue in the Fast & Furious movies has never been all that deep. Even from the very movie that came before Fast & Furious 6, it had dialogue that was so much sillier. And Hobbs specifically has some outrageous one-liners and burns.

Every movie that came before Fast & Furious 6 and every movie that comes after Fast & Furious 6 will always have hilariously silly dialogue, and there will always be some diatribe about family. It’s one of the many great things of the series, as there’s absolutely no pretense.

3 The Way It Connects to Tokyo Drift Is Clever

Tokyo Drift features one of the most heartbreaking moments in the F&F series, as Han crashes his Mazda RX-7, and it explodes almost instantly. In the mid-credits scene in the sixth movie, the death is retconned by showing the Furious 7 villain, Deckard Shaw, intentionally murdering Han. One Redditor thinks the scene was ingenious, but they are in the minority.

The popular opinion is that the timeline of the series and where Tokyo Drift fits into the universe is massively confusing because of this scene. And it seems like they are retconning the same scene for a second time, as the trailer for F9 has revealed that Han is actually still alive (which hilariously inspired the Twitter hashtag, #JusticeForHan).

2 It’s Totally Forgettable

This Reddit user claims that they have seen it three times and can’t even remember what happens in it. But though it was the movie that ramped up the soap-opera-like storytelling and acting to the max, it’s far from forgettable.

The movie literally features a plane exploding as Dom flies into the side of it in a vehicle and then headbutts someone in mid-air. Fast & Furious 6 is a lot of things, as it’s over-the-top bombastic, full of ridiculous one-liners, and a brilliant but convoluted premise, but one thing it’s not is forgettable. It’s one of the best movies in the series according to Rotten Tomatoes.

1 It’s Peak Fast & Furious

As the large-scale action is one of the ways the series changed for the better after Fast Five, a select few believe the sixth movie is “peak” Fast & Furious. However, the movie is barely the peak of any of the F&F tropes fans have come to love. It barely has any street racing in it like the first movies, and all of the movies that came after ramped up both the gravity-defying action and the melodramatic storylines.

Deckard Shaw might appear at the end of the movie to avenge his sibling, but F9 features Dom’s long-lost brother and is in combat with his mother. And F&F6 might feature a plane exploding, but Furious 7 sees Dom and Brian jump between three skyscrapers in Dubai.
