Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, the always quotable Peter Venkman, and Winston Zeddemore are the mentors who guide the player while providing some laughs. The Original Cast Returns

The character of Ivo Shandor is given more focus and his zealous dedication to Gozer brings a lot of darker elements to the story. There are new ghosts, new entities, and the Ghostbusters enter the ghost dimension thus keeping Ghostbusters: The Video Game from becoming a rehash of the movies.

It’s not just cutscenes either, the Ghostbusters all have their own quips during battles with ghosts and boss fights. Even the Rookie gets a few scenes to make players laugh with just his expressions and reactions to what occurs.

Janine Melnitz returns with Annie Potts providing the voice, the boss fight with the giant Slor is a direct reference to a line from the first film, and even the inclusion of Ivo Shandor is fan service.

The player has to work with the other Ghostbusters to wrangle a ghost, slam them around to weaken them, then lower them down into a trap. From beginning to end, the gameplay makes the player truly feel like a Ghostbuster.

Who Doesn’t Love Upgrades?

Egon and Ray were always finding ways to upgrade the team in both of the original films. That even passes into Afterlife with the reveal of things such as the gunner seat for the Ecto-1 and the RC Ghost Trap. Before Afterlife, Ghostbusters: The Video Game delivered a plethora of upgrades.

The Ecto-1 was given a large top-mounted trap known as the Super Slammer to trap many ghosts. The Proton Pack itself was given many upgrades such as a manual cooling system, different proton firing modes for different effects, a slime dispensing device, and more.
