10 Wholesome Friendship Moments On Gilmore Girls

The main characters on Gilmore Girls might get caught up in their own personal lives, but they always make time for their good friends. Whether Luke is lending a hand to a Stars Hollow resident or Rory and Lane are having a heart-to-heart, these characters know what it means to be a good friend. They can also admit when they have messed up and owe someone an apology (at least some of the time).

Some characters are better pals than others, but everyone on Gilmore Girls has at least one close platonic relationship. From Rory and her best friends Paris and Lane to Lorelai and Michel’s bond, there were many heartwarming friendship moments on this beloved show.

10 Rory And Paris Had Fun At The Bangles Concert

Paris could be scary, but also very nice, and once fans saw the vulnerability that she carried around, it was much easier to root for this character.

In the first season, Paris, Madeline, and Louise went to the Bangles concert with Rory, Sookie, and Lorelai. Rory and Paris actually connected here and Rory saw a totally new Paris who was soft-spoken and smiled a lot and said that she enjoyed the music. This was a sweet moment, and while their friendship did go through some rough patches in the next few seasons, this was the start of their healthier, more positive relationship.

9 Rory Admitted To Lane That She Wasn’t Being A Great, Supportive Friend

Rory went on a double date with Lane, Todd, and Dean in the first season, and a while later, it became clear to both Rory and Lane that she was seriously messing up. She was spending so much time with her first boyfriend that she was completely neglecting the person who had been there since they were little kids.

Rory apologized to Lane and said, “I will be better from now on, I promise. Twenty-four hours a day at your disposal.” Lane said, “That’s right, I got dibs.” This was a great, wholesome friendship moment on the show and proved that Rory made mistakes, but her heart was often in the right place.

8 Lorelai Helped Sookie Get Ready For Her First Date With Jackson

Sookie was understandably freaked out about her first date with Jackson. They had only chatted about produce before, and she wondered if it was a good idea to go in the first place. Lorelai helped her get ready and gave her a pep talk: “Tonight is a good thing. Whether you find out that you’re madly in love or you’re not meant for each other, it’s still a good thing. And I’ll be right there. And have I done a gorgeous job on your face or what?”

Not only did Lorelai help Sookie before the date, but she was willing to go on the date too. She hated Jackson’s cousin Rune and wished she was home the whole time, but she was trying to make Sookie feel more at ease and comfortable. This was a great example of a friend helping another friend out.

7 Luke Came Over To Help Lorelai Find A Lost Baby Chick

In the season one episode “That Damn Donna Reed,” Rory dressed up like Donna Reed and made Dean dinner.

Rory also had a baby chick at home for school, and when it got lost, Lorelai called Luke to come over and help. He seemed surprised that there really was a chick, and Lorelai realized he thought she was romantically interested in her. This was an adorable and awkward moment since they hadn’t admitted their feelings for each other yet. At this moment on the show, Luke and Lorelai were simply friends, and it was sweet that Luke helped her out of this bind. What could be more innocent than finding an adorable lost chick?

6 Rory And Lane Volunteered At The Stars Hollow Autumn Festival Together

Rory and Lane had a wholesome friendship in general, talking to each other about crushes, their life in Stars Hollow, and school experiences.

Stars Hollow has many festivals, and the two friends got involved in the Autumn Festival, dressing up as pilgrims. This was a super innocent way for them to spend time together. While other teens might be going a bit wilder, Rory and Lane were happy to help out their town, and being a part of Stars Hollow was meaningful to them.

5 Michel Wanted Lorelai To Take Him To An Auction

While Lorelai and Michel have some tough moments in their friendship, they did care about each other a lot, and it was difficult for Lorelai to imagine the Dragonfly Inn without him in the revival A Year In The Life.

In the third season, Michel begged Lorelai to take him to an auction that she was attending with Emily. He said it would be “impeccable” and that he hadn’t been to that kind of fancy, sophisticated auction in a while. This was a charming and wholesome friendship moment since Michel wanted to be around other elegant people and he also wanted to spend time with Lorelai.

4 Rory Lent Paris Clothes For Her Date With Tristan

Rory thought it would be a good idea if Paris and Tristan went on a date, but she definitely didn’t realize how nervous Paris would be.

Paris told her she had nothing to wear and explained, “I’m not a trendy girl ok? I don’t haunt the boutiques hoping to find that one fabulous little top. I study and then I think about studying and then I study some more.” In a very sweet gesture, Rory lent her some clothes that belonged to Lorelai. While the date went badly and Rory realized that Lorelai probably wouldn’t get them back, Rory still did the right thing here.

3 Luke Cut Kirk’s Sandwich Into Shapes

While Luke and Kirk didn’t hang out regularly and might not even call each other friends, they definitely had a bond and they were very compassionate toward each other.

In the third season episode “Take the Deviled Eggs,” Kirk ordered a patty melt and Luke knew that he wanted it cut into special shapes. He said, “You want the melt cut into squares or stars today?” and when Kirk said “Half and half” Luke said, “Okay, coming right up.” This went against Luke’s typical surly, grumpy nature, and it was really cute to see him treating Kirk like a child.

2 Sookie Made Rocky Road Cookies For Rory To Give Dean

Although Rory and Dean’s romance had some awkward moments, they were always thinking about each other and trying to make the other person’s day better.

In one scene, Sookie made some Rocky Road cookies because they were Dean’s favorite. She was being a great friend to Lorelai as she wanted to do something nice, and it’s hard to get more wholesome than baked goods. Gilmore Girls fans remember that Sookie even came up with a hilarious song for the occasion: “Cookies for the love and the Dean and the cookies for the love and the Dean and the cookies for the love…”

1 Lorelai And Babette Bonded Over Insecurities

While Babette could be a gossip, she cared about Rory and Lorelai and it seemed like they loved living next door to each other.

In the episode “Cinnamon’s Wake,” Lorelai and Babette bonded over their insecurities over dating and the way that they look. Babette said, “I never thought a mom would want me” and Lorelai said she has felt that way. Babette said she didn’t believe her and Lorelai said she wants someone to love her for “the whole package.” These two characters didn’t often talk about deep subjects, so this was heartwarming and moving.
