When Tiger King was released on Netflix in 2020, it was also coincidentally during the onset of the COVID-19 lockdown, which meant people were stuck at home. This might be partly what put Tiger King on the radar, but the shocking story, twists and turns, and every episode that left viewers instantly wanting more made the show become a sensation.

So, it’s no surprise that the series, which was initially thought to be a one-season docuseries, was followed up with a second season. With Joe Maldonado-Passage, a.k.a. Joe Exotic, in jail, however, the attention has shifted to other individuals in the story.

10 Don Lewis Might Still Be Alive

One of the key focuses of season 2 was the story of Don Lewis, the husband of Carole Baskin, Joe Exotic’s rival, who went missing in the late ’90s, never to be seen again. Theories flew about Baskin having some involvement in his disappearance, and many believed that whatever happened, Lewis was long deceased.

However, the new season implied that there’s a chance Lewis might actually be alive, hiding out somewhere, even though he was legally declared dead back in 2002. In one episode, a document shown, supposedly from the Department of Homeland Security, indicates that Lewis is allegedly living in Costa Rica. The organization has not commented publicly regarding these claims, according to E Online.

9 Don Lewis’ Dealings In Costa Rica

It was discussed in the first season that Don Lewis was a millionaire and not always dealing on the up and up. He frequently brought animals into Florida illegally and had unknown, possibly illegal business dealings in Costa Rica.

The new season shed more light on Lewis’ double life, including his penchant for other women in Costa Rica, the money he frequently hid in his plane to take to Costa Rica and invest there, and animals he flew back and forth to Florida.

8 Joe Exotic Was Engaged To A Woman

Fans got to know a little more about Joe Exotic from the second season, including his time spent as a police chief, his relationship with a woman named Kimberly (who he was engaged to be married to), the challenges he faced after coming out as a gay man, and the trauma he suffered following the death of his first husband.

Kimberly noted that she discovered he was going to gay bars, and while they broke up, they remained close friends. She was also close with his first husband Brian Rhyne, and noted that while Exotic was always rambunctious and loved being the center of attention, he only began acting as erratically he did after dealing with the loss of Brian.

7 Jeff Lowe Is Now On Joe’s Side

Jeff Lowe was always out for himself, but by the end of the second season, it was clear that Lowe had decided to flip the script and speak out in favor of Joe Exotic. While he still does not like nor get along with the self-professed Tiger King, Lowe has decided to tell the truth and share recordings that he believes could exonerate Joe of any of the murder-for-hire charges.

Lowe, of course, is only doing this in effort to deflect attention from himself and protect his own interests. Nonetheless, it presents an interesting new chapter that could see Exotic released from prison after all, or at least get a reduced sentence.

6 Allen Glover Wants Joe Out Of Jail

Many of the people who appeared in the first season agree that Exotic was guilty of the charges against him pertaining to animals, with his cruelty being one of the worst things Joe Exotic from Tiger King did. But they are all in agreement that he was not guilty of the murder-for-hire plot, nor that he deserved to spend the rest of his life in jail.

No one has had as big a change of heart, however, as Allen Glover, the hitman Exotic allegedly hired to do the deed. Breaking down in tears from his guilt, Glover said in the second season that he wants to speak the truth, even if it sends him to jail, because it’s the right thing to do.

5 A Meeting With Trump Was Canceled Due To COVID Diagnosis

Fans following the story know that Exotic was pleading with President Donald Trump to pardon him. It was all over the news. But what fans didn’t know is that a legal team who was working on Exotic’s behalf actually managed to secure a face-to-face meeting plan on the books.

However, that lunch was abruptly cancelled when President Trump was diagnosed with COVID-19. It raises the question: would the President have granted the pardon had he met with those individuals that day?

4 There Was An Alleged Plot To Kill Joe

In an ironic twist, not only do all players involved say Joe was completely set up, including Glover, who declares he never had any intention of killing Baskin, but Glover also claims that there was allegedly a plot to kill Exotic.

Glover showed the lawyer, as the camera followed, a piece of thin wire that was allegedly set to be secured to two trees on either side of a road Exotic often drove down. Had Exotic gone through at a fast speed with the wire in place, it could have easily beheaded him.

3 Dillon Passage Hasn’t Spoken To Joe Exotic

Not much was known about Dillon Passage, Exotic’s fifth husband, which is why one of the Tiger King spin-offs fans wanted was one that told his story. The young man seemingly stood by Exotic right up to his last days before heading to prison. But in a jailhouse call, Exotic revealed that, at the time the call was filmed, he hadn’t spoken to Passage since he was put in jail.

The pair had a fight the day before he went in and their marital status remains up in the air. According to People, the pair have confirmed that they are getting divorced. In July, Passage revealed his new boyfriend John.

2 The Introduction Of Tim Stark

Tim Stark was an interesting new character revealed in the second season, a fellow big cat lover who runs the non-profit Wildlife in Need where he allows guests to touch and play with the animals. But he faced pushback from a number of organizations and authorities, including PETA.

Stark, as eccentric an individual as Exotic, was passionate about fighting those he felt were unjustly targeting him. Distractify reports that Stark is now bankrupt and lost all his animals.

1 Carole Baskin Sued Netflix

While this wasn’t revealed in the docuseries, the fact became known when the second season was announced and released. According to Variety, Baskin has sued Netflix for using footage of her she believes to be unauthorized. Netflix, meanwhile, according to People, says Baskin has “no claim at all” noting that the documents she signed allegedly include permission to use the footage “in later projects.”

One of the interesting facts about Carole Baskin since the first season of Tiger King is that she was feuding with the filmmakers from the beginning once she felt the direction of the docuseries and her portrayal were not as was promised.
