There’s so many classic cartoons to come out of Nickelodeon and become favorite shows for young kids of multiple generations, but these moments may just ruin your childhood. Although many have fond memories of the content that Nickelodeon produced, it wasn’t until the 1990s that they really found their groove. Before the debut of Doug and a few other shows, the channel was buying up other programming and had yet to find the creative spark that would come to define them.

Once Nickelodeon figured out what type of content would succeed in their lineup, they began to almost completely focus on cartoons targeting young children. The year 1991 saw Rugrats and The Ren & Stimpy Show debut and they all helped pave the way for new generation defining shows like SpongeBob Squarepants and Avatar: The Last Airbender. These shows and many more may be beloved by many, but they also included some rather dark moments that may have scarred some younger viewers.

In the latest Screen Rant video, we take a look at 30 moments from iconic Nickelodeon shows that could ruin someone’s childhood. These shows may be meant for kids, but they included some pretty dark and creepy moments, and even some that are disgusting to look at or incredibly sad. Check out every entry in the video featured at the top of this post.

These moments when singled out make them all the more surprising to be included in a children’s show. After all, what kid tuned in to Hey Arnold! to learn about financial troubles, or sought out episodes of Invader Zim to see an eyeball ripped out of someone’s socket? There were also those times when Rocko’s Modern Life discussed Heffer potentially being eaten or dying and going to “Heck,” which could be difficult content for kids to watch.

To be fair, there’s nothing wrong with kid friendly shows dealing with real world topics, but they don’t have to be done in this fashion. Children shows that are either animated or live-action can be done in informational ways that teach kids about life and how to act in appropriate ways, without having to make jokes about topics like death and bullying. That said, these shows can usually target different age groups, so whether or not this content is too mature or disturbing for the viewer is a case-by-case basis. With Nickelodeon still producing many new shows for kids of all ages, hopefully they aren’t too scarred based on what the latest Nick cartoons are including.
