365 Days is the movie adaptation of the novel written by Blanka Lipińska. It follows the dark romance that develops between Laura Biel and her kidnapper, Massimo Torricelli. The film’s haphazard handling of serious issues, such as rape, has dominated all conversations surrounding it. Here’s a more lighthearted issue: many fans feel that nothing about this film makes any sense.

The buzz from some who have watched the film is that no plotline is ever resolved. Every character makes inexplicable decisions. Much of the dialogue is gibberish made to mimic actual conversation. Many feel that time that could’ve been used to flesh out these aspects of the film was eaten up by back-to-back sex scenes, resulting in a hilarious string of plot holes. Let’s jump into a few of them.

10 Massimo’s Incredible Memory

Massimo’s first sighting of Laura was followed up by a bullet to the chest and the death of his father. He saw her for no more than a minute from yards away. Five years later, Massimo recognizes Laura at the airport.

It’s unrealistic that he would remember a random woman after such a long period of time. The trauma he faced right after their meeting gives more reason for his memories to be unreliable. If he does have the ability to remember everything he sees, one would expect it to come up more than once.

9 Massimo Can Teleport

Massimo manages to follow Laura through empty streets without her ever detecting his presence. There are no audible footsteps, so we can’t blame her for being unaware. 
He also has the uncanny ability to predict where she’ll be at all times, except for that time when he misplaced her for five years.

The day that Laura is kidnapped, she took a sudden right turn, and there he was, waiting. Unless he has undisclosed superpowers, he must spend all his time waiting in dark alleys for pretty girls to pop in.

8 Massimo’s Promise To Wait For Consent

This promise is broken before Massimo can even get the words out. He gropes her against her wishes as he says it. Once the promise is made, he grabs her by the throat and slams her against the wall.

And the violations of his own rule worsen as the movie continues. When she refuses to follow him to Rome, he has his men strap her down inside his private jet. His definition of consent is hazy, to say the least. Laura challenges him throughout the movie but never calls him out on this blatant hypocrisy.

7 Massimo Telling His Hostage He Won’t Force Things

He could’ve just asked Laura out for a cup of coffee. Or to a movie. Forcing a love interest into a year-long date is definitely the worst option. His motivations would be easier to comprehend if he had already attempted to gain her attention and failed. Somehow, kidnapping was Plan A.

According to Massimo, the purpose is to give Laura a chance to fall in love with him on her own. If it fails, she’s free to go.vComing from the man who abducted and assaulted her moments prior, these must be hard words to believe.

6 She Could’ve Called For Help

Laura commands Massimo to return her phone so that she can call her mom. He doesn’t listen in on the conversation or leave men to spy for him. Laura is free to say anything she wants. This is when she should probably mention the fact that she’s been kidnapped in a foreign country.

Instead, Laura calmly states that everything is fine. This occurs long before she comes to accept her situation. Soon after this scene, she attempts to escape Massimo on foot again, making her actions at the time all the more confusing.

5 Laura Forgives Murder Before She Forgives Cheating

The whole kidnapping thing is reason enough to hate Massimo. Watching him shoot his own cousin in the head should’ve raised further concerns. Laura doesn’t seem to mind. She comes to accept cohabitation with a murderous roommate quite quickly for an ordinary woman.

Evidence of an affair is all it takes for her to drop her ex, though. Under normal circumstances? Totally understandable. The inconsiderate Martin was never a great boyfriend. But he seems like a big step up from a drug-dealing murderer.

4 The Big Secret In San Francisco

The movie picks back up in San Franciso after a time jump. Massimo is requesting a refund from stockbrokers who advised him to make a bad investment. When they refuse, he produces a folder containing information on one of the stockbroker’s “sexual preferences.” This convinces them to meet Massimo’s demands.

Too bad the audience is never told what the secret is. It’s enough to frighten wealthy business people. At the same time, it doesn’t warrant the backyard execution that Massimo’s sex trafficking cousin gets, or even a simple firing. In the end, this secret doesn’t sound like much of anything.

3 Heading Out For Ice Cream In The Middle Of A War

There is constant talk of all the violence caused by Massimo’s war with other crime families. The war gets him shot and his father killed within the first five minutes of the film. He fires a bullet through the hand of yet another powerful gangster. Then his ex-girlfriend adds to the drama by threatening to murder his current girlfriend.

Despite all of this, Laura is allowed to wander around clubs on her own, eat meals at outdoor restaurants, and is sent back to Poland unaccompanied. Massimo is an incredibly possessive man who makes no efforts to secure his girlfriend’s safety.

2 Seducing Laura Outranks Finding His Father’s Killer

Shots of Laura through a pair of binoculars show her staring right at Massimo when his father is killed. Kidnapping Laura puts him in possession of a key witness to the crime that changed his life. He could stand to ask her a few questions. If he does already know the culprit, it’s never brought up.

Laura shows no interest in discussing the event either. When he reveals that he was on the beach that day, she continues on to the next topic completely unfazed.

1 Laura Is Offered A Job Out Of Nowhere

A company named Preston calls to offer Laura a job on her first day back in Poland. There is no way she was filling out applications from Massimo’s lair. If she applied and attended interviews before her abduction, it would mean they took months to get back to her. 
Laura hasn’t even quit her current job at this point.

That unannounced, two-month-long vacation probably tipped her old company off, but it would also have deterred future companies from working with her.
