Clueless may be hailed as one of the greatest romantic comedies of the 90s, but some fans of the genre can’t get over the fact that the main love story in the film revolves around a girl falling for her step-brother.

While Cher and Josh are cute and they do understand each other, fans today can’t help but feel that these two should have stayed siblings instead of entering a romantic relationship. Perhaps, audiences in the 90s could overlook their sibling bond, but audiences in 2020 are left confused and slightly disgusted.

Love, Simon broke all kinds of barriers and records when it became the first gay teenage love story to ever be released by a major Hollywood studio. Beyond that though, it also gave us one of the most wholesome and relatable teenage couples of all time.

Though Simon and Bram spend most of the movie apart, audiences can feel the love they share for each other radiating from their email exchanges. When the two finally get together in the end, fireworks erupt not just for the leads, but also for the viewers, who have fallen in love with Simon and Bram themselves.

7 Worst: Sam & Josie – Never Been Kissed

It’s not Drew Barrymore’s fault that her role as Josie lands her on the list of worst teen rom-com couples for Never Been Kissed, it’s really the fault of the movie’s premise.

While audiences know that Josie is actually just pretending to be a teenager for a story, English teacher Sam Coulson doesn’t know the truth. Despite thinking she’s a teenager, Sam continues to be extra friendly and pursue Josie. He even dances with her at the high school dance, giving audiences all the wrong messages when it comes to appropriate relationships between teachers and their students.

6 Best: Peter & Lara Jean – To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

Peter and Lara Jean definitely aren’t perfect, but they definitely help each other become better people. Peter helps Lara Jean get out of her comfort zone and Lara Jean helps Peter learn that he’s worthy of a more stable love. Love them or hate them, there’s no denying that Lara Jean and Peter are one of the best teen rom-com couples of all time.

5 Worst: Elle & Noah – The Kissing Booth

The teen rom-com genre has no problem giving into love cliches, as long as they’re warranted. However, many fans just couldn’t get behind the cliche love story between Elle and her best friend’s older brother Noah in Netflix’s The Kissing Booth.

Aside from being on different pages when it comes to their relationship and futures, fans couldn’t help but think that Elle would be much better off with her best friend Lee as her boyfriend.

4 Best: Augustus & Hazel – The Fault In Our Stars

Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace Lancaster are one of the best star-crossed lovers since Romeo and Juliet. Their tragic love story plays out in The Fault in Our Stars and teenage audiences haven’t been the same since watching the film conclude in tragedy.

Augustus and Hazel are perfect for each other because they both understand what it’s like being a teenager who has to battle cancer every day of their life. Even though these two don’t get to live happily ever after, fans can rejoice, knowing they still got an epic love story.

3 Worst: Austin & Sam – A Cinderella Story

The 2004 Cinderella-inspired A Cinderella Story might be the most popular of the Cinderella reboots, but that doesn’t mean that the relationship portrayed in the film is the best.

Sure, Austin and Sam are cute together, but they have a lot of issues that they need to work out before fans by into them living happily ever after. After all, Austin wasn’t the only one hurt when his messages we’re exposed to the entire school, and yet he never once checks on how Sam is feeling until she comes to confront him.

2 Best: Olive & Todd – Easy A

Easy A had a lot of romance stories going on, but none of them were as authentic and swoon-worthy as Olive’s relationship with Todd. After all, Olive and Todd have always been there for each other. From Olive lying about their kiss in middle school to Todd swooping in to rescue Olive from a disastrous “date,” they always seem to be in the right place at the right time.

Unlike the rest of the boys who pursue Olive, Todd really cares about her. In fact, he loves her so much that he’s willing to recreate all her favorite 80s grand gestures, just to convince her that he’s the real deal.

1 Worst: Jamey & Sierra – Sierra Burgess Is A Loser

Noah Centineo may be Netflix’s teen romantic comedy heartthrob, but not even heartthrob status could save Sierra Burgess is a Loser from creating one of the worst teen couples of all time.

Jamey may have forgiven Sierra for catfishing him and kissing him without consent, but fans of the teen rom-com genre certainly have not. For the first time in a long time, fans sympathized with the boy in the teen rom-com instead of the girl, with many fans wishing Jamey ended up with someone who really cares about him.
