5 Big Brother Winners Who Could Win Squid Game (& 5 Who Definitely Couldn’t)

The Big Brother players who would last in Squid Game aren’t necessarily competition beasts, but rather mental, strategic, and social threats.

Netflix’s Squid Game has taken the world by storm. It’s terrifying, disturbing, and thought-provoking. Fans can’t help but ask themselves how they might fare in a similar situation and if they would make the same types of decisions the various characters did.

This has also led to theorizing about characters and television personalities from other shows and how they might fare in a Squid Game-like situation. How would a smart and resourceful villain like Breaking Bad’s Walter White come out in the games, for example? What about a goofy and dimwitted one like The Office’s Michael Scott? This thought process has extended to the realm of reality TV as well, with players from shows like Big Brother.

Would Win:

Dan Gheesling

Dan Gheesling would operate with a level of craftiness and foresight like Sang-Woo combined with the quietly threatening nature of Il-Nam. Indeed, in a game like Squid Game, Dan would likely be the one who is secretly running things and pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

His gift of gab might not help him in the game, but his ability to manipulate people, get them on his side even when he has done them wrong, and play strategically by thinking several steps ahead, would help. Dan would probably have figured out what the games were ahead of time and made his choices based on that knowledge, without letting anyone else in on the secret.

Ian Terry

Like Dan, who was a mentor to Ian, the young player would be able to navigate around the games and figure out logically how they worked and how to position himself best to win. He might play similarly to the lead character, Gi-hun in terms of his empathy towards others, but with some of Sang-woo’s craftiness thrown in for good measure.

Even if Ian was not able to figure out the games beforehand, once playing, his education as an engineer would help him realize strategies like licking the Dalgona candy to melt it and make it easier to break, how to best navigate the rope with his team for Tug-of-War, or how to test the panes of glass to determine which were tempered and which weren’t.

Xavier Prather

Xavier would be a methodical player, taking the time to analyze every situation. He wouldn’t panic but would look at every game and instance from every angle to figure out the best way to approach it. Much of this attitude would stem from his occupation as a lawyer.

As a highly competitive person, Xavier would also be determined not to lose. Just as he was in the Big Brother game, when the stakes are raised as a life-or-death matter, Xavier would play like Jun-ho might if he were actually in the game and not a police officer trying to take the organization down.

Kaycee Clark

Kaycee would be the Sae-byeok of the group, a fierce fighter who would take the initiative to try and figure out what was going on, stand up to bullies, and forge strong bonds with others, even if initially reluctant to do so. She would be well-liked, respected, and looked to for advice in the game. Like Sae-byeok, she would be the person to turn around and remind Gi-hun which glass piece to step on when he was unsure.

As one of the best Big Brother winners, Kaycee has a strong chance of figuring out clever ways to win games, and take everyone by surprise as she does it.

Derrick Levasseur

It’s easy to compare Derrick to Jun-ho since he was also a police detective in real life, just as Jun-ho was on the series. Jun-Ho also went undercover to infiltrate the games. But he didn’t play them. Imagining someone like Jun-ho, such as Derrick, in the games is an interesting thought. Derrick managed to fool everyone in the house about his real job and ran the show craftily, without ever getting blood on his hands.

He could potentially do the same in Squid Game or, like Dan, another one of the smartest players ever on Big Brother, he might actually be revealed in the end as an Il-nam type character who was secretly behind it all.

Couldn’t Win:

Rachel Reilly

Rachel was skilled at competitions, but her outspoken nature would get her in trouble in the game. She would play similarly to Mi-nyeo: loudly and obnoxiously to the point that players would want to get rid of her.

She was a strong player in Big Brother and a highly educated and intelligent person. But the pressure often got to Rachel and she broke down crying on multiple occasions or got into arguments with other houseguests. So, while Rachel’s intelligence and athleticism might get her through a few rounds, and she goes down as one of the funniest Big Brother players, she would never last to the end of Squid Game.

Dick Donato

Dick would easily be the Deok-Su of the bunch, causing trouble, doing what needed to be done to get his way, and taking advantage of situations. This would get him far in the game. But winning, in the end, requires making the right choices and outwitting another player. Like Deok-su, once Dick didn’t have anyone else to hide behind, he would be in trouble.

He might very well make it to the end, but winning would be a stretch for Dick, one of the villains fans loved to hate on Big Brother.

Nicole Franzel

Nicole might be most likely to believe she could win Squid Game but would probably be one of the first out by panicking at the situation, cozying up to the guys, and trying to flirt her way into the big alliances and groups, just as Mi-nyeo did.

With that said, her resume on Big Brother is impressive, having made it pretty far in the game, including winning once against a powerhouse player, Paul Abrahamian, and placing third in the All-Stars season that was ultimately won by Cody. But considering that Nicole put all her trust in Cody who sent her home in the end, just as how Ali trusted Sang-woo, hopes aren’t high that she would win.

Mike “Boogie” Malin

Mike would find someone smart to team up with, just like Ali did. But he would also have trouble sticking to a plan given the pressure of the situation and would easily take out his friend if needed, just like Sang-woo did to Ali.

This might suggest that Mike would do well, but his rambunctious and manipulative nature would likely get him in trouble. He has the social skills to get along with others, but the games are so fast-paced that he wouldn’t have the time to put an elaborate plan into motion, and would end up being eliminated quickly.

Cody Nickson

If Cody were in the Squid Game at all, his position would probably be on the other side of the fence, as The Salesman. He would meet vulnerable people in the subway, offer them a chance to change their lives, then play the iconic slap game with them and send them on their way with a few bucks and the signature card.

Cody would be a physical threat, but it’s not so much about physical prowess in Squid Game as it is an ability to think quickly and adapt to situations. Cody wouldn’t last long, but he would easily be charming enough to stand on the sidelines and convince others to join.
