5 Fan Favorite TV Teachers (& 5 Who Deserve An F)

Teachers are some of the most inspirational people you will ever meet. They influence their students, support their dreams, and shape their minds to be able to tackle whatever obstacles they face after they finish their education.

Some of the best and most memorable television show characters are teachers. They offer advice, often being the voice of reason for many adolescent characters. However, there are other teachers who are downright awful. They’re strict, set bad examples for their students, and they shouldn’t even have their teaching certification. Take a look at five of the best teachers in TV history, as well as five other teachers who deserve an F.

10 Worst: Mr. Garrison – South Park

5 Fan Favorite TV Teachers (& 5 Who Deserve An F)

You wouldn’t want Mr. Herbert Garrison (Trey Parker) as your teacher on South Park. He’s passionate about the wrong material, including sex. He often teaches his students at South Park Elementary about pointless pop culture references, and he swears at his students. He has anger management problems, and he’s known for carrying a gun.

Even worse, he makes up random grades for his students, and he treats his classroom more like a playground. He’s not an authority figure. It’s best to avoid his class at all costs.

9 Best: Miss Beadle – Little House On The Prairie

5 Fan Favorite TV Teachers (& 5 Who Deserve An F)

There are many memorable teachers on Little House on the Prairie, including Miss Eliza Jane Wilder (Lucy Lee Flippin), Miss Etta Plum (Leslie Landon), and even Laura Ingalls Wilder (Melissa Gilbert).

However, the most famous teacher from the drama is Miss Eva Beadle (Charlotte Stewart). She’s the schoolteacher in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, for the first four seasons. She’s kindhearted, supportive, and she encourages Mary Ingalls (Melissa Sue Anderson) to also become a teacher, even after Mary goes blind. Miss Beadle may have made some mistakes—including sending her students home early during a dangerous blizzard—but she always has her students’ best interests in mind. Everyone wishes they had a nurturing teacher like her.

8 Worst: Mr. Testaverde – Saved By The Bell

5 Fan Favorite TV Teachers (& 5 Who Deserve An F)

When a TV show is about a group of high school students, you’re bound to witness a few hilarious interactions with teachers. On Saved by the Bell, Mr. George Testaverde (John Moschitta, Jr.) is a teacher everyone at Bayside High wants to avoid. He’s an obnoxiously challenging history teacher, nicknamed “Terrible Testaverde” by his students.

His assignments are too difficult to complete, he conducts lectures at lightning speed, and he stresses Jessie Spano (Elizabeth Berkley) out so much. Some teachers are strict for no good reason, and that’s Mr. Testaverde.

7 Best: Miss Bliss – Saved By The Bell

5 Fan Favorite TV Teachers (& 5 Who Deserve An F)

When Saved by the Bell first started, the characters were in junior high school. The show was originally called Good Morning, Miss Bliss, and Miss Bliss (Hayley Mills) was the main character. Miss Bliss felt that the first day of school was a bigger day for teachers than the students.

Miss Bliss may have been replaced by other teachers on Saved by the Bell, but she was a supportive figure for the students, especially Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar). She offers plenty of advice, and she’s a teacher who could have stayed at Bayside High.

6 Worst: Mr. Schuester – Glee

5 Fan Favorite TV Teachers (& 5 Who Deserve An F)

For the most part, Mr. Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) is a good teacher on Glee. He’s the advisor of the New Directions glee club, and he is very creative with his song choices. However, he also makes many questionable decisions.

For example, he performs raunchy, sexual songs with his students, including “Gold Digger” and “Thong Song.” He blackmails his students, doesn’t help them with their drinking problems, and he’s almost too close to his students; they’re his best friends, which seems inappropriate. He should’ve been fired for his actions, but he somehow always kept his job.

5 Best: Ms. Frizzle – The Magic School Bus

5 Fan Favorite TV Teachers (& 5 Who Deserve An F)

Ms. Frizzle (Lily Tomlin) might just be the most adventurous teacher of all time. The Scholastic animated series The Magic School Bus follows Ms. Frizzle as she takes her class on fun, educational field trips.

Ms. Frizzle transforms her school bus into a submarine, spaceship, airplane, surfboard, and more. She educates her students about science, believing that the best way to teach is through hands-on learning. Her students never know what to expect.

4 Worst: Walter White – Breaking Bad

5 Fan Favorite TV Teachers (& 5 Who Deserve An F)

Breaking Bad’s Walter White (Bryan Cranston) never wanted to be a high school chemistry teacher, but the job paid the bills. As he doesn’t have any passion for the job, he’s often bitter at work. At one point, he poisons one of his students.

He certainly knows about chemistry, but he’s not the most inspirational teacher. His students shouldn’t aspire to be like him. Because of his questionable, often illegal actions, he absolutely deserves an F.

3 Best: Mr. Kotter – Welcome Back, Kotter

5 Fan Favorite TV Teachers (& 5 Who Deserve An F)

The 1970’s sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter is all about a teacher. Gabe Kotter (Gabe Kaplan) returns to his high school to be a teacher, but he has no idea what to expect. His class is full of underachieving troublemakers, but Mr. Kotter is the best teacher for these students.

Mr. Kotter is a jokester and he’s always trying his best to make a difference in his students’ lives. When he was a student at Buchanan High, he was just like his students. Because of this, he bonds with his students in a way they have never experienced.

2 Worst: Mr. Chuck Noblet – Strangers With Candy

5 Fan Favorite TV Teachers (& 5 Who Deserve An F)

Long before Stephen Colbert became the host of The Late Show, he starred as Mr. Chuck Noblet in Comedy Central’s early 2000’s comedy, Strangers with Candy. Mr. Noblet is the worst teacher ever. He offers horrible advice to his students. He’s inappropriate, proving that he’s basically a sociopath.

He publicly shames his students, has random violent outbursts, teaches false information, and he even steals a disabled student’s wheelchair to race down the hallways. He should definitely not be a teacher.

1 Best: Mr. Feeny – Boy Meets World

Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) from Boy Meets World is perhaps the most memorable TV teacher of all time. He begins as a junior high teacher for Cory Matthews (Ben Savage), Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong), and Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel). Then, when they graduate to high school, he decides to follow them, eventually becoming a principal.

This habit continues when they go to college and Mr. Feeny becomes their college professor. They can’t get rid of Mr. Feeny, but who would want to? He has a tough-love approach to his teaching methods, but he also offers the best advice. He truly cares about his students, even though he never tells them that he loves them. It’s fitting that the final scene of the show is about his teaching. He advises, “believe in yourselves. Dream. Try. Do good.” His students reflect that they’re good people because of his teaching. When they leave, he looks at the empty classroom and whispers, “I love you all. Class dismissed.”
