5 Most Realistic LiveAction Disney Channel Shows (& 5 Most Unrealistic)

Throughout the years, Disney Channel has aired many original series. The shows ranged from an average, relatable sitcom to beyond anything a typical family could understand. Yet, it was the characters, writing, and stories that kept fans for as long as the shows were on.

Not every show was realistic, though, even if fans found they could relate to the characters. The scenarios occurring in the series could be too outside the lines of reality that the show would be successful on quality rather than relatability. The shows could also do wonders for escapism when the storylines were larger than life.

10 Realistic: Even Stevens

5 Most Realistic LiveAction Disney Channel Shows (& 5 Most Unrealistic)

At the center of all the mayhem, Even Stevens was really about the dysfunctional Stevens family. Most specifically, between Ren and her younger brother, Louis. Always fighting, Ren and Louis were each other’s main opposition throughout the series and into The Even Stevens Movie. Even if some of the show’s quirks weren’t something that everyone could relate to, such as Beans’ life, the heart of Even Stevens rested on the antics and relationship between Ren and Louis. Even Stevens is also remembered for being Disney Channel’s first musical episode event with “Influenza: The Musical” a dream entirely within Ren’s mind.

9 Unrealistic: Dog With A Blog

5 Most Realistic LiveAction Disney Channel Shows (& 5 Most Unrealistic)

Another series featuring a dysfunctional family, but not everything about the show was unrealistic. Yet, the title alone is what makes the series impractical. On Dog With A Blog, the family’s new dog, Stan, can speak. Stan is included in several of the kids’ adventures, and, of course, the parents are clueless. However, there is still more to Stan than the family knows.

When no one is paying attention, Stan runs a blog, talking about the family and what happened during the day. Only in the series finale do the kids discover that Stan hosts the blog.

8 Realistic: Good Luck Charlie

Although craziness does exist throughout the series, at its center, it’s about a family trying to raise the newest additions to their family. The Duncans are an average family whose central storylines tend to be within reason. The show features stories from being uncertain about your future after high school to trying to determine the best career fit. There is plenty of family chaos within the series as well between the parents and siblings. Good Luck Charlie was also known for portraying one of Charlie’s friends to have two mothers, something that had not been done on Disney Channel previously.

7 Unrealistic: JONAS

5 Most Realistic LiveAction Disney Channel Shows (& 5 Most Unrealistic)

JONAS starred the Jonas Brothers as the Lucas siblings, a professional band. Their family lived in an abandoned firehouse, and the brothers still attended high school. Given their lives as professional musicians, it seemed unlikely that they could get away with continuing to participate in high school as average students. Season two took a different approach in Jonas L.A. Rather than emphasize what made them regular people; it brought out their famous side as the series included several guest stars and focused on storylines about broadening their careers.

6 Realistic: Girl Meets World

5 Most Realistic LiveAction Disney Channel Shows (& 5 Most Unrealistic)

Other than Cory’s role as Riley’s history teacher, Girl Meets World had several realistic moments and storylines. The show took plenty of opportunities to push the boundaries, allowing the series to be a drama as much as it was a comedy sometimes. Relatable moments such as bullying and struggling to forgive were inclusive throughout the series. Riley and Farkle were the centers of two different types of bullying stories. Farkle’s focused more on an in-person bully who had been making him feel bad, and whose face the audience could see.

“Girl Meets Rileytown” took a different approach showing Riley dealing with a bully sending her messages, and the audience never gets to see the person’s face. One of the most integral parts of Girl Meets World was creating relatable experiences with morals that taught significant lessons.

5 Unrealistic: Phil Of The Future

When a twenty-second-century family gets stuck in the twenty-first-century, things are bound to get messy. With no way home, until their time machine is fixed, the Diffy family must adapt to their new surroundings and fit in, all the while hiding their future technology. The show is grounded in familiarity with Keely Teslow and the other current-day characters at H.G. Wells. Just advanced technology makes the show unrealistic. Phil of the Future also includes Curtis, a caveman, who needs to be kept away from prying eyes.

4 Realistic: Andi Mack

Terri Minsky’s second successful Disney Channel show is just as relatable as her first, Lizzie McGuire. Andi Mack may be the most progressive Disney Channel show to exist so far. The series took big swings that were rewarded by their dedicated fanbase. Andi Mack was the first Disney Channel series to have one of its main characters come out as gay. Storylines that included gun safety, references to teen pregnancy, panic attacks, and military parents were also included throughout the three seasons. Andi Mack showed Andi, Buffy, Cyrus, and Jonah as they navigated their way through school, relationships, friendships, and more.

3 Unrealistic: Wizards of Waverly Place

5 Most Realistic LiveAction Disney Channel Shows (& 5 Most Unrealistic)

They’re wizards with magic, and that covers what makes it so unrealistic. Wizards of Waverly Place was one of the most successful shows on Disney Channel, but its premise made nearly every storyline impractical. Even if the characters were relatable, their magical problems, and struggle toward the Wizard Competition was not something that ordinary people would find in their everyday lives.

However, that didn’t stop anyone from loving it. The series quickly became, and stayed, a fan-favorite for as long as it ran. Wizards of Waverly Place featured many spells and magical creatures such as vampires, werewolves, angels, and more.

2 Realistic: Lizzie McGuire

5 Most Realistic LiveAction Disney Channel Shows (& 5 Most Unrealistic)

Lizzie McGuire was not the first Disney Channel show, but it may have had the most significant impact on fans, and launched Hilary Duff’s career. Something that worked beautifully for Lizzie McGuire was that Lizzie was never supposed to be a professional at anything, or living a double life. Lizzie was reasonably average at everything from grades to hobbies and just wanted to be good at something.

Luckily, Lizzie was not the only relatable character. Lizzie McGuire used Miranda and Gordo to tell stories about insecurity and body image. While Gordo finds trouble dealing with his feelings about his height, Miranda’s struggle is with an eating disorder. Along the way, viewers were also treated to Animated Lizzie, an inside look into Lizzie’s thoughts and feelings.

1 Unrealistic: Hannah Montana

Miley Stewart wanted to be a regular girl so severely that she and her family invented an alter ego to handle the price of fame. Hannah Montana, in appearance, was the opposite of Miley Stewart. Hannah was blonde and wore luxurious clothes above what Miley’s classmates would have thought she would ever wear.

From regular girl one moment to popstar the next, Miley had a lot going on, but nothing about Hannah Montana was realistic. The series was also remembered for its use of catchy songs that directly referenced Miley’s double life. Hannah Montana was successful as a show, soundtrack, and concert tour.
