Quite a few Nintendo characters ended up getting TV shows. However, some other of their video game characters would make great TV shows.

Not just in the world of gaming but in general, Nintendo is one of the most esteemed and admired companies. From literally inventing jumping in games to creating revolutionary consoles, Nintendo has achieved landmarks that only a few others have. But other than producing bestselling games and consoles, it is also known for creating some of the most memorable fictional characters.

Unsurprisingly, these fascinating and equally gimmicky characters have traversed into other mediums of pop-culture as well. Take, for instance, Pikachu from the Pokémon franchise. The cutesy thunder-wielding character has everything from toys range to its own show under its belt. Along with Pikachu, there are a few other mascots that have rightfully acquired their own massive franchises. Unfortunately, there are others that haven’t stood the test of time but very well deserve their own shows.

10 Deserving: Dixie Kong

Out of all the female Kong characters in the Donkey Kong games and the Super Mario spin-offs, Dixie Kong was the first one to be playable. Along with that, Dixie was also the first female character in the entire Mario series to get her own game.

However, despite appearing in seventeen games and being playable in fifteen, Dixie Kong does not have her own show yet. Considering her recurring appearances in the games, fans won’t forget about her anytime soon. So maybe now it is high time that one of the most beloved female characters of the gaming world gets her own show.

9 Got One: Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong wasn’t always the hero he sought out to be. In 1981, he was first featured as the villain of Donkey Kong, rolling barrels against Jumpman. But as the character rose to fame, so did his morals and instead of kidnapping women, Donkey Kong became the face of valor. Well, the rest is history.

The Donkey Kong franchise traversed into the medium of television in 1996. The game’s CGI animated adaptation first premiered in France and later aired in the United States in 1997 on Fox Kids and in 2000 on ABC Family.

8 Deserving: Princess Peach

Princess Peach a.k.a Princess Toadstool was known to be the damsel in distress, who always got captured by Mario Brothers villain Bowser. As gentle as a dove, Peach went from being a helpless victim to the most well-known female characters in the world of gaming.

According to Forbes, she’s even among the richest women in all of gaming with a whopping net worth of $1.3 billion. So it goes without saying—if there’s any Nintendo mascot that deserves a separate show, it’s her.

7 Got One: Mega Man

Making his first debut in the 1987 game series, Mega Man relentlessly traveled to every nook and cranny of the world, survived the toughest environments, and fought against evil for peace. It’s these justice-seeking endeavors that made Mega Man extremely popular in the West. The game series sustained long enough to receive a TV series in 1994, which featured Ice Man, Snake Man, Drill Man, Elec Man, and many others alongside Mega Man.

6 Deserving: Little Mac

With a below-average height of 5 feet 7 inches and a weight of 107 lbs, 17-year-old Little Mac may not seem like a worthy protagonist of a boxing game. But only when he steps in the ring, the rookie fighter proves that even boxers who are ten times bigger than him have nothing on him.

Little Mac’s journey from being an underdog New York City hustler to achieving his dream of joining the World Video Boxing Association has all the right elements to become an epic TV show. However, the mascot’s potential remains unexplored.

5 Got One: Kirby

Kirby hails from Dream Land on the planet Pop Star. His mysterious ability to inhale creatures and then acquire their abilities makes him one of the most iconic characters in the world of gaming.

While the games played a key role in popularizing the character, it’s the mascot’s anime adaptation that added more heft to its personality through storytelling. The show, although quite childish, captures the very essence of the original game series by putting Kirby’s innocence and gimmicky feel-good vibe on full display.

4 Deserving: Samus Aran

Over the years, Metroid’s Samus has been featured in several materials outside of the original game series. While she’s a traumatized young woman in Magazine Z manga, she’s a greedy wealth-seeking warrior in Captain N: The Game Master.

In the original Metroid games, she’s a lot more than a one-dimensional genetically advanced human, who achieves heroic feats but remains broken and lonely because of her past. With the Metroid games so rich in lore and Samus’ character so deep, a Metroid TV adaptation is certainly long due.

3 Got One: Princess Zelda And Link

Princess Zelda and the several incarnations of the heroic Link have protected their Kingdom of Hyrule from evil for several years now. Several mechanics of the original games may not have held up after all these years, but the franchise still remains legendary because of its simplistic RPG flavor and memorable music tracks.

When it comes to its TV adaptation, the show primarily follows Zelda and Link’s adventures against the evil Ganon, who is determined to get his hands on the Triforce of Wisdom that Zelda owns. Like most other Nintendo TV adaptations, The Legend of Zelda did not last too long, but it still garnered the attention of gamers and non-gamers alike with its silly comedy and catchphrases.

2 Deserving: Yoshi

Yoshi is among many characters who came to be known from the Super Mario World. After getting famous as Mario’s dinosaur ally, Yoshi played the protagonist of his very own game titled, Yoshio’s Island.

Other than the character’s cheerful personality and amicable demeanor, his flutter-jumping and egg-laying abilities could work well in kids’ TV adaptation. However, despite being so likable, Yoshi seems to be among the least likely mascots to get their own standalone shows.

1 Got One: Super Mario Bros.

While Mario needs no introduction, Luigi, too, has made several noteworthy collaborations with his brother to become a fan favorite. Being the quintessential video game mascots that they were, the brothers have starred in everything from sports games to live-action adaptations. So it’s unsurprising that they’ve not only had one but many TV appearances. Among these, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! stands out to be a timeless wonder that takes viewers back to the good old 80s.
