And it may be the tail end of the year, but there are still plenty of books that are getting the on-screen treatment in the upcoming months.

From suspense books to children’s books, all sorts of stories are on their way to the screen in the form of Netflix, Peacock, Apple+ and Amazon Prime shows and movies. Some old and some new, these are the latest adaptations that bookworms and cinephiles should look out for.

8 Nightmare Alley – December 17th, 2021

William Lindsay Gresham, the author of the book, attributes his idea of the book to the conversations he had with an ex-carnival worker, as reported in the introduction to the book itself.

Another psychological drama movie to be released on Netflix after a limited release in theaters, like the book, it traces the beach escapade of one lady, and how it all goes south when she gets obsessed with another woman and her daughter.

She then has the dark weight of dealing with the memories of her days of early motherhood, which were triggered by this woman and her daughter.

One student dies of a fatal allergic reaction, and when the authorities rules that foul play was involved, the other four kids come under heavy investigation to find the killer. There have been several great movies based on young adult novels, and this one looks like a promising series too.

2 Pachinko – Late 2021

This series is sure to be perfect for lovers of historical family dramas that span decades. Based on the book by Min Jin Lee, Pachinko is an epic saga that follows a Korean family who immigrate to Japan during World War II. The story spans the years from 1883 until 1989.

Apple+ is at the helm of Pachinko the series, which has completed filming and is expected to release in late 2021. The Asian epic focuses on its protagonist Sunja, whose journey to Japan in deep poverty exposes an undercurrent of intolerance towards Koreans in Japan. Her life is entangled with the life of Hansu, a mysterious Korean merchant born into a rich Japanese family, along with a slew of other characters.

1 The Lost Girls – December 2021

The Lost Girls by Laurie Fox is a retelling of the Peter Pan fable but from the perspective of the Darling women. Peter Pan has a hold on these ladies, starting from Wendy’s grandmother and then mother.

As Wendy grows up and has a child of her own, Berry, she needs to fight to keep her away from Pan’s undue influence on the women and still keep her legacy alive. Several versions of Wendy make an appearance here, and this reimagining seems to be an intriguing one.
