1 Super Mario 3D World Is Not A Mainline Mario Game

Super Mario 3D World premiered in 2013, receiving critical acclaim for its creativity, replay value, and story. Adding to the gaming mechanics introduced in Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario 3D World features several playable characters, including Rosalina and Bowser Jr.

The game has a positive reputation in the community, but some fans disliked its gimmicky nature. Redditor Justice_Prince goes to the extreme, saying that they don’t consider 3D World or New Super Mario Bros U to be mainline Mario games. “As far as I’m concerned, the Wii U is the first Nintendo console not to get a mainline Mario game.” Strong words, indeed, but the games still exist and are still part of the series’ continuity, like other users on the comments state.
