A Red Lantern Wolverine Would Be Logans Ultimate Form

It’s well known that Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, and what he does would make him a perfect Red Lantern. The ability to tap into his animalistic berserker rage makes the Marvel hero uniquely equipped to wield one of the DC universe’s most powerful pieces of alien technology: a Red Lantern ring. Rather than being powered by will like the Green Lantern rings, the Red Lantern rings are fueled by rage, something Wolverine has in abundance.

Despite already being a living weapon in his own right, Wolverine has never been against augmenting his built-in arsenal with a variety of weapons. He’s used swords like the Muramasa Blade, guns, and even special powered Asgardian armor during the Fear Itself crossover. Red Lantern rings offer an incredibly diverse range of powers for the wearer to utilize, including hard-light constructs, energy blasts, a protective aura, flight, and the ability to regurgitate corrosive blood.

Even though they exist in different universes, if Wolverine were ever able to get his claws on a Red Lantern ring, he would achieve his ultimate form. The kind of tragedy that fuels the rage of the Red Lanterns is loss, something the long-living Wolverine has in abundance. He’s seen many people he’s cared about die horribly and even killed them himself. As seen in the Wolverine Origin comic, he lost his adopted father at the hands of his birth father, who he then killed himself when his mutant powers and claws manifested. Going on the run with his childhood companion, Rose, Wolverine later tragically and accidentally killed her as well. This is only the beginning of Wolverine’s tragic backstory, as he goes on to lose more than one lover to violence from the likes of Sabretooth and the Winter Soldier. So much loss is practically a prerequisite to power the rage of a Red Lantern.

Wolverine would also be well-suited at dealing with the powers the Red Lanterns could give him. While he may not be well known for his imagination, it’s not a stretch to assume that Wolverine has some particularly gruesome ideas and experiences that could inspire brutal hard light constructs. His healing powers would also make him the best candidate to wear a Red Lantern ring, which replaces the users’ blood with a burning corrosive substance, and ties the users’ life force to the ring itself, rather than their own heart. Wolverine’s healing factor ensures that not only would the corrosive, projectile vomit blood power not harm him, but also that his body would be able to replenish the substance at a rate greater than any current Red Lantern. If Wolverine ever needed to remove the ring, an act that would normally kill a Red Lantern, his healing factor would presumably kick in and jump-start his heart.

The Red Lanterns may be known in the DC universe as villains, but Wolverine would not be the first superhero to join their ranks. Supergirl and several Green Lanterns have all been drawn to the power of the Red Lanterns in the past, but none of them are experts at living with and utilizing their rage quite like Wolverine is. His animalistic berserker rage, his ability to heal, and his proficiency with weapons mean that Wolverine would be his most powerful self with the power of the Red Lanterns.
