AC Valhalla How New Level Scaling Works

The newest update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla brings with it a new festival, a new weapon, and some quality of life changes. One of those changes is a new optional level scaling system that will give players control over enemy levels.

Update 1.3.0 for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla marks the release of the third free festival event added to the game since launch. The Sigrblot Festival will feature new limited time activities, new cosmetics, and add one-handed swords to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as an equippable weapon. The new patch also brought changes to the skill tree to make it easier to find skills newly added to the game, and added support for The Siege of Paris, the second paid DLC expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that will launch on August 12th.

Ubisoft’s patch notes for Title Update 1.3.0 also detailed the addition of a new optional level scaling system. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has embraced optional difficulty settings since the game’s launch, allowing players to toggle settings like stealth difficulty or how easy the navigation HUD makes it for players to find points of interest. This newest setting allows players to control the level of most enemies in the game that the player has surpassed in power level. It is a mechanic designed to keep games challenging for players by leveling up enemies that would otherwise be weak and unthreatening to a high level player. The default setting, which Ubisoft describes as “how the game is intended to be played,” makes it so enemies cannot be lower than 50 power levels underneath the player’s current power level at all times.

What AC Valhalla’s Level Scaling Options Are

The new level scaling mechanic in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla adds four additional settings to level scaling. The first option is simply turning level scaling off altogether, resulting in enemies being dictated by the power level of the region they are in. Enemies in a region marked power level 50 will stay at power level 50 for the entire game. If players want a slight challenge, they can change the setting to Constant, which will bring up lower level enemies to the same power level as the player. The setting Harder will boost enemies to 30 power levels above a players, while Nightmarish will push their power level to 60 power levels above or even higher. Boss fights in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will not be affected by the new level scaling.

Ubisoft seems committed to giving veteran players new ways to engage with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and prove their skills. Earlier this year, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla received the Mastery Challenge update, which added challenge shrines to the game. The new level scaling options let’s players make the end game fairly easy, or a brutal challenge, allowing players to experience Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on their own terms.
